Fed Up with Fox Feed

By GottaLaff

Fox is in charge of the camera feed at the Democratic convention. How fair and balanced.

Thom Hartmann pointed that out, along with his impressions of the coverage of Michelle Obama's speech, nearly verbatim:
The cutaway shots were of people who looked bored, who were talking to person next to them, were of more African Americans than not... The subtext: The white viewer in the midwest who might not vote for an African American would think that white Americans don't care what Michelle had to say, plus, they saw a lot of black faces.
Not unlike providing the wonderful Rush Limbaugh Radio Show to our troops overseas. Nothing like one-sided "news".

I'd read somewhere else that Fox was in charge of camera feeds for the convention. WTF?

Stooooopid dems. We sure do seem to like losing.

Oh...well, shit. I didn't know that Fox had the only camera feed. That sucks big-time.

And speaking of conventions and looking good on camera... Wexler is scheduled to speak just after 7 Eastern. The nominating speeches and roll call are all going to happen while I'm still at work, (I'm sorely disappointed).

I'm leaving work early to come home for the roll call. Sort of unheard of for the first day of school, but the teacher will cover my class (I'm not officially a teacher).

I hope they stick to the schedule this time. Last night it was all over the place.

The camera feeds are determined ahead of time by the networks, with the approval of the parties. It used to be done by lottery, but they may just bid on it now, or something similar.

Having one media outlet handle all the camera feeds serves both institutions; the media gets to share the cost of the set-camera work, and the party gets to limit the amount of space allocated to bulky camera equipment. The RNC will also be covered by Fox.

BTW, I heard Hartmann complain about this yesterday and am with him on the deliberate nature of showing mostly bored or otherwise audience members. However, I take a little exception to any criticism about seeing "a lot of black faces." My response to that would be: Duh. It's the Democratic Party. A healthy fucking percentage of delegates are black, so why shouldn't the cameras show a lot of black faces? There are a lot of black people in the room!

I just don't get that criticism at all. Next thing he'll complain about is all the women they were showing during Clinton's speech last night.

that should be "otherwise occupied audience members"

I just watch the live feed from C-Span, and the one from MSNBC which does not move much from the podium. It seems that all of them were on Bill Clinton while Hilary was speaking. Great speeh by the way.

Since I posted, a called spoke with Thom and said they only handle the podium feeds. The cutaways are by the networks themselves.

Go figger.

And CPants, I agree with you on the black faces. I was a little confused as to why he took exception with that.
