Bill Clinton speaks... and speaks

By GottaLaff

"Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow"... brought back memories, and tears.

Liveblogging...

The cheers won't subside. They love him. He even said, "Stop, we gotta get on with the show here, c'mon!" "Sit down!"... but it didn't help. At all.

"I love this, and I thank you, but we have important work to do tonight. I AM HERE FIRST, TO SUPPORT BARACK OBAMA. SECOND, I'M HERE TO WARM UP THE CROWD FOR JOE BIDEN." "I love Joe Biden..."

That campaign generated so much heat, it increased global warming.

Hillary said she'll do everything she can to elect Barack Obama. That makes two of us. Actually, that makes 18 million of us...

I can speak from a perspective that no other American except Pres. Carter, can. America has been weakened [paraphrased] economically, our position has been weakened by too much unilateralism, too little cooperation.. dependence on oil, indebtedness to foreign lenders, burdened military.... and by failure to use power of diplomacy.

The job of the next president: Restore the American Dream and leadership in the world. [paraphrased] Barack Obama is the man for this job.

He has the ability to inspire people.. intelligence and curiosity every successful president need.. his policies are superior to the Republicans'... a clear grasp of foreign policy, commitment to badly strained military. A UNIQUE capacity to lead our diverse nation...

The primary tested and strengthened him. His first presidential decision, a running mate, he hit it out of the park. [cheers] With Biden's experience and wisdom, Obama's insights, instincts, America will have the leadership it needs.

Obama is ready to honor the oath to ... protect the Constitution. BARACK OBAMA is READY TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

He'll fight against AIDS, TB, and malaria... and renewal of the AIDS battle here at home.

He'll choose diplomacy first, military force as a LAST resort. BUT... in [this dangerous world, threats], when he can't convert adversaries into partners, HE WILL STAND UP TO THEM.

He won't allow problems to obscure opportunities. [jobs, health care, education, fight global warming] We need innovation. Obama will unleash them [paraphrased], will create jobs.

Most important: He knows America can't be strong abroad unless we are FIRST STRONG AT HOME. People have always been more impressed by the power of our example, than by the example of our power.

Look at the example the Republicans have set. [he lists them, all the failures, bad policies, cronyism, Katrina, you name it] Are these the family values the Republicans are so proud of? America can do better than that. And BARACK OBAMA WILL DO BETTER THAN THAT. [standing cheers, yes we can!] Yes he can, but first, we have to elect him!

McCain: Suffered terribly. He loves his country. He's shown independence on some issues. But on the 2 great questions OF THIS ELECTION: American Dream, place in the world... not so much [paraphrased]. Since 2001, Republicans had control of White House, Congress. Now we could see what they'd do. They went from surplus to debt... etc.

Their candidate is promising more of the same. More tax cuts... more bandaids for health care... more going it alone in the world... instead of sharing responsibilities... They actually want us to reward them for the last 8 years by giving them 4 more.

Let's give them a simple message: Thanks but no thanks. In this case the 3rd time is NOT the charm.

Referring now to his own presidency... The Republicans said I was too young and inexperienced to be commander in chief... [standing cheers] Sound familiar? It didn't work in 1992, because we were on the right side of history, and it won't work in 2008 because Barack Obama is on the right side of history.

Obama's life is a 21st century incarnation of the American Dream. ... Show our humanity as well as our strengths to the world... [refers to Obama family, Biden family] He'll lead us away from the fears back to unity and hope.

If you believe, like me, that U.S. should always be a place called HOPE, then join Hillary and me in making Barack Obama the next president of the United States!
