VIDEO: Bill Clinton warns against violent anti-government attitude

By GottaLaff

More leaders like Bill Clinton need to keep talking about this, exposing it, and condemning it. Where are the Republicans?

Oh, wait. I know. Tacitly, and not so tacitly, encouraging it. How's that shooty killy thing workin' out for ya, Bumpits McCrosshairs?

Don't like taxes? Kill someone. President's too ethnic for ya? Threaten. Don't like gay Congress members? Shout slurs. There are so many "isolated incidents" now that it's an undeniable fact: It's a mad mad mad mad country.

The unhinged have been unleashed:

(CNN) Former President Bill Clinton said he sees parallels in the mood of the country now and on April 19, 1995, when the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City killed 168 people while he was in the White House.

"There's the same kind of economic and social upheaval now," the former president told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview to air on Friday on "The Situation Room."

To see what Clinton had to say about Michele Bachmann, go here.

Bill Clinton v. Michele Bachmann

By GottaLaff

The Big Dog growls at Michele:

"They are not gangsters. They were elected. They are not doing anything they were not elected to do."

-- Former President Bill Clinton, quoted by the New York Times, scolding Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) for calling the Obama administration and Democratic Congress as "the gangster government."

I'd reveal the kind of movement with which I identify Michele, but that would be so very unladylike.

Besides, making her the butt of my jokes is so five minutes ago. I'd make an ass of myself if I pushed that hard. My disdain is rearing its ugly head, so I'll refrain. Oh, poopy, I'm running a little behind, so I'll back off now.

Bottoms up!

The end.

Deficit THIS

By GottaLaff

See how liberally biased Reuters is? At least that's what we should soon be hearing from those pesky Rushpublics once they get an eyeful of this:

No matter how they try to deny it, this is what the Obama administration got stuck with. And digging ourselves out of this won't happen overnight.

Clear? Clear.

Who knew such a huge person could twist themselves in such creative ways? I take it this means that you wish for President Clinton's continued good health? Uh huh.

Clinton leaves hospital after heart procedure

Damn good to hear.
New York (CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton left the hospital Friday morning after doctors performed a procedure to restore blood flow in one of his coronary arteries, longtime friend Terry McAuliffe told CNN.

Clinton, 63, was hospitalized at New York-Presbyterian Hospital's Columbia campus after experiencing brief periods of discomfort in his chest over several days, according to Dr. Allan Schwartz, the hospital's chief of cardiology.

Two stents were used to restore blood flow to a coronary artery Thursday after images revealed that a bypass graft - part of a quadruple bypass surgery that Clinton underwent in 2004 - was blocked, Schwartz said.

An electrocardiogram and a blood test showed no evidence of a heart attack, Schwartz said.

BREAKING: Bill Clinton update, liveblog

By GottaLaff

Press conference:

Spokesperson: He's in good spirits, which must be why they've practically eulogized him for the last 4 hours (sarcasm). Chelsea and Hillary are with him, by the way.

Dr. Alan Schwartz:

He had some recurring symptoms, although brief ones. He came in for and EKG and blood test. NO evidence of heart attack or damage to the heart.

He had blockage, so he got 2 stents in the artery that had been grafted earlier during the bypass. All went smoothly. He's up and walking around, visiting with the family, in good spirits and should go home tomorrow.

This was not a result of his life style or diet. He's been doing everything right. His cholesterol etc. are excellent. This is part of the "natural history" of his bypass graft. After 5-6 years, this can happen.

He's less susceptible to future heart attacks.

The surgery involved the main artery in front of the heart. Now he's speaking doctor... have no idea what he's saying.

Prognosis: Excellent.

It's a chronic condition with no cure, but treatments and procedures work. He responded to his warning symptoms properly.

He had some vague chest discomfort, no pains, and when it became repetitive, he went to the doctor.

He can be back to work at the office Monday. This is not considered a "wake up call" because he's done everything right, and this graft treatment was NOT related to anything he did.

Breaking- Bill Clinton hospitalized in NY

That's it- more when I get it. MSNBC is reporting that ABC has the scoop. Nothing to link to yet.

Hospital won't confirm, WJC's staff says he's in for a stent and balloon angioplasty for a blockage according to reporter on MSNBC.

Link-

Former President Bill Clinton was rushed to a Manhattan hospital late this afternoon, sources tell ABC News.
A look back at presidential history from 1960 to 2008.

Clinton, 63, was transported to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan for a condition related to his heart.

ABC News' chief political correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported that sources said he was taken to the hospital "likely for a stent procedure."
UPDATE 5p EST via MSNBC-
Former President Bill Clinton has been hospitalized in New York City, according to a spokesman.

Early reports indicated that Clinton experienced chest pains and has received a stent. A stent is small mesh tube that is used to treat narrowed or weakened arteries. The seriousness of his condition is unknown at this point.

A hospital source said that Clinton called the head of cardiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital two days ago, saying that he was not feeling well. Clinton was originally scheduled to come in to the hospital Wednesday but postponed the appointment until Thursday.

President Cool: Where Clinton Turned Right, Obama Plowed Ahead

By GottaLaff

http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/news/photos/2010/01/27/obama-state-union-cp-802718.jpg

President Cool is using that unruffled demeanor to his advantage again... hopefully. Or as Barbie McCan'tDressMyself would say, President O'Cool:

[President Clinton's] move to the middle — arguably more rhetoric than reality — stopped Newt Gingrich’s Republican Revolution in its tracks. So why did President Barack Obama go a different route on Wednesday night, giving little ground and declaring that the problem was not his agenda but a deficit of trust in government and of pragmatism? If there was a defining line in Mr. Obama’s speech, it might have been “Let’s try common sense,” to which he ad-libbed, “a novel concept.” [...]

In the 2008 campaign, the Obama style was to ignore the passions of the moment. It has become the lore of the Obama White House that its candidate won by not letting hyperventilation on cable television, or predictions of impending political doom, drive his tactics, much less his strategy. In that telling of events, Mr. Obama’s coolness, even his seeming detachment, became a political virtue. [...]

In short, his message was that his agenda remains unchanged; only the timing is uncertain. That is the difference between the Clinton approach in 1996 and the Obama approach in 2010. Mr. Clinton clearly felt that he needed to get ahead of the political passions of the moment. Mr. Obama, rightly or wrongly, still is acting like he can control them.

Please read the whole thing here. Those were just nibbles.

Obama has always been a centrist, despite rumors to the contrary. He's proved that over and over again, and I'm not quite sure where the liberal label came from. I've posted about that many a time.

As for being Not Clinton, let's hope he doesn't veer right, because then I'd lose what's left of my own cool.

Bill Clinton, Bush to Lead Disaster Recovery Efforts

Very magnanimous of President Obama on the GWB part. It gives George a chance to make up (a bit) for Katrina. Via Taegan-

First Read: "According to multiple sources, Obama last night called George W. Bush and formally asked him to participate, along with Bill Clinton, in humanitarian relief efforts for Haiti -- in the same vein that Bush's father and Clinton did following the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia. Bush 43 said he was ready to do whatever was necessary. A formal rollout of the Clinton/Bush 43-led relief effort will take place as early as tomorrow afternoon, but possibly not until the weekend, as the administration doesn't want to take any attention away in the next 24 hours from search and rescue efforts.

For Bush 43, this is his first real public effort since he left office; it's an opportunity to begin establishing his post-presidential legacy, especially on an issue like disaster relief, which remains a scar on his presidency."

Bill Clinton Heads to the Hill

Sic 'em Big Dog!!

Former President Bill Clinton will address Senate Democrats today about health care, CNN reports.

"A constant refrain from Democratic leaders is that wavering Democrats must heed what they say is a lesson of the Clinton administration: fail to pass a health care reform bill, and congressional Democrats will suffer on Election Day."

First Read: "What's particularly interesting is that Clinton has strong ties to the Senate centrists who could very well decide the fate of the health-care bill in the Senate. Clinton was governor when Ben Nelson served as governor of Nebraska; Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor just happen to represent Clinton's home state of Arkansas; and Clinton and Joe Lieberman used to be VERY close personally and ideologically -- all before the Lewinsky scandal. In particular, what kind of advice does Clinton give to Lincoln and Pryor? What does he say to Lieberman (if the Connecticut senator ends up attending)? During the '08 campaign, Clinton found his stride campaigning in, well, red America -- in places that are similar politically to Arkansas, Nebraska, Indiana, etc. Clinton's at his best when he's giving OTHERS political advice, and he excels at framing an argument better than just about anyone on the political stage today."

Clinton-Bush "death-match faceoff" called off

By GottaLaff

http://staffwriter.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/canceled.jpg

What's that? It wasn't a super duper ultra mega ultimate death match faceoff challenge at all? It was just some panel thingy?
A "debate" between former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush "has been nixed because the promoter overhyped it as a death-match faceoff between the men," the New York Post reports.

A Clinton spokesman "said the appearance was never slated to be a 'debate' and was actually a moderated panel discussion with the 42nd and 43rd leaders of the free world."

Bill Clinton speaks out on decision to support same-sex marriage

By GottaLaff

http://politicalkudzu.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/bill-clinton.jpg
Bill Clinton:

"I was against the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage nation-wide, and I still think that the American people should be able to play this out in debates," Clinton said. "But me, Bill Clinton personally, I changed my position.

I am no longer opposed to that. I think if people want to make commitments that last a lifetime, they ought to be able to do it."
Better late than never.
