New RNC site: Obama v. Constitution, including ominous music!

By GottaLaff

You simply must link over to this ridiculous site just to hear the oooommminnous music:

If you run your mouse over the amendment in question it indicates an Obama judicial nominee and a decision that allegedly supports the claim [...]

Please help the Republican Party stop President Obama’s judicial nominees from rewriting the Constitution. Donate today!” the site says, calling for contributions of up to $1,000.

And that's what it's really all about: Donations.

Defacing the U.S. Constitution should be a real winner for them. Even better than the fake census forms!

Perpetuating lies must stop or real democracy ceases to exist

By GottaLaff

I'm watching MSNBC as I type this. Forgive the stream-of-consciousness, but sometimes it's easier to communicate that way:

The GOP is reacting to the health care bill bill signing. What an accomplishment that was, and how proud we should be. The Democrats faced so many obstacles that attaining their goal was in real doubt.

But as Vice President Biden said to the president at the signing, "this is a big f'ing deal."

But back to the Rushpublic reaction on the Tee Vee Machine:

Jon Cornyn reiterated the GOP meme that the Democrats were determined "to shove this down the throat of American people". Those would be the very same American people who voted in a guy named Barack Hussein Obama by a landslide, and gave the Democrats the majorities in Congress, because they wanted this bill, or one very much like it. Yeah, Cornyn, those people.

He then cited a CNN poll, perpetuating even more lies. Here is the poll he cited, along with the factual breakdown. Ed Schultz gets kudos for immediately correcting the record, which was refreshing and admirable.

But you know who didn't do that? Chris Matthews.

Earlier today, one of his guests (I was in the other room, so I can't identify her) cited the same poll, repeated the same misleading information, and Matthews said nothing. No. Thing.

I started screaming obscenities. If the media refuse to report news accurately, we get a dumbed-down electorate, and real democracy ceases to exist. Think about that.

And this is exactly what the GOP wants: A dumbed-down electorate. That way, more and more voters believe what they're told by the careless, lazy, bought-and-paid-for corporate media, and more and more elections reflect a badly uninformed and misinformed population.

There you have it: one more thing to fight tooth and nail. We need to educate America, starting right now... Or else, this happens.

I hope this post is a start.

VIDEO: Rep. Shadegg admits health care reform's public option creates competition

By GottaLaff

Rep. Shadegg:

"The for profit insurance industry did not want a public option 'cause they don't like competition."

So Shadegg proves that the GOP knows they are lying.

Oops.

VIDEO: Palin recommends launching war with Iran

By GottaLaff

"I'd like him to" support Israel? Did she really just say that? With every statement she utters, she proves herself to be increasingly out of touch, a blatant liar, and a nasty, snide know-nothing.

And don't get me started on her war-mongering:

Palin indicated that his chances of winning would dramatically change if Obama simply declared war on Iran:

WALLACE: How hard do you think President Obama would be to defeat in 2012?

PALIN: It depends on a few things, say he played — I got this from Buchanan — say he played the war card. Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decide to really come out and do whatever he could to support Israel–which I would like him to do. That changes the dynamics of what we can assume will happen between now and three years. Because I think if the election were today, Obama would not be elected.

What? No song? She must have forgotten to write the words on her palm:

Sarah Palin's property tax problem; ‘I am so sorry I’m such a weasel’

By GottaLaff

The Mudflats does it again:
When the Democrats were finished with her, they had a 63-page document. There were lots of interesting things in the document, including this.

Pg. 48/63 Palin Declined to Appear in Ads for A Candidate Because He Had Not Paid His Property Taxes.

In 2004, it came to light that Republican Rep. Vic Kohring owed the borough $2,277 in unpaid property taxes on property he owns off Knik-Goose Bay Road, according to borough records. “That bothered former Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin enough that she declined a campaign request to do a pro-Kohring TV commercial. As a former mayor, Palin said, it made her uncomfortable to back someone with unpaid taxes when the city relies on property taxes.” [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 10/28/04]

Admirable, huh?

Not so fast:

Recently, Sarah Palin gave an interview to Bill O’Reilly and said her favorite vacation spot was “The middle of nowhere at our cabin in Petersville,” Alaska.

And now we get to the envelope. Inside the envelope was an unsigned letter which read:

Todd and Sarah are now millionaires, but they shirk their responsibility to pay local property taxes.

One more nugget:
She talked to the Anchorage Daily News.

Pg. 15/63 Palin Called Herself “Such a Weasel” For Not Having a Firm Stand on the Property Tax Cap.

Palin said she has declined requests by Tax Cap Yes to speak in favor of the initiative. Yet, she said, she doesn’t object to her name’s continuing to be listed on the group’s Web site among 10 current or former government officials — half from Mat-Su — in support of the initiative. Palin acknowledged that she was sounding quite the politician. ‘I am so sorry I’m such a weasel,’ she said.”

That was the tease. Now go read the post.

VIDEO: Scott Brown's Lawyer Refused to Answer Question on Not Providing Health Coverage To Campaign Staff

By GottaLaff

Previously, I posted about whether or not Scotty Brown provided his campaign staff with health care coverage.

But when asked directly, his lawyer blew off questions about it:

Scott Brown's lawyer, Dan Winslow, refuses to answer question about Scott Brown not providing health coverage to his campaign staff and failing to pay payroll taxes at Mass. GOP headquarters press conference.
So why all the secrecy?

In MA-Sen Race That's All About Health Care, Is GOPer Brown Providing Coverage to Staff?

By GottaLaff

http://texasdarlin.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/scottbrown.jpg

What? An ethical, caring, compassionate, Tea Baggy Republican stiffing his own staff? Why, Cheapy McLyington, what could you be thinking?
The campaign staffers helping Scott Brown for U.S. Senate are being paid as independent contractors rather than as employees and are responsible for paying their own taxes and, presumably, health care coverage. The contractors designation applies from the top tier to lower level staffers who appear to be doing grunt advance work for Brown events and handling volunteers and press.

The decision to treat staffers as independent contractors could save the campaign money on taxes and benefits, experts TPMDC spoke with said, although the precise rationale for the move remains unclear.
The full "explanation" is over at TPM.

Seems like a real swell guy, that Scotty. What a fine Kennedy replacement. Sure as shootin' he'd live up to Uncle Teddy's high standards and ideals.

That was hard to type, even as dripping sarcasm.

VIDEO: Brown falsely suggests health reform will limit mammograms, pap smears

By GottaLaff

In case you missed this lie that was spat effortlessly from Scott Brown's mouth, who is in a tight race with Martha Coakley for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat, here you go:

Same old cycle: ClusterFox perpetuates the lies, the public eats it up as truth, and Media Matters debunks it:

During the January 11 edition of her Fox News program, Greta van Susteren allowed Scott Brown, Republican Senate candidate for Massachusetts, advance the false suggestion that the health care reform bills would prevent women from receiving mammograms and pap smears.
For the truth (remember that?), go here.

White House taking the gloves off re: Medicare lies

By GottaLaff

http://www.champion-mentor.com/images/boxing%20gloves.jpg

Couldn't they have taken the gloves off a few months ago? Was it that hard to unlace them? Were they that comfortable? I've heard of slow burns, but this is.... well, you know:

In a sign that the White House is taking the gloves off for a newly aggressive phase in the health care wars, a hard-hitting new set of White House talking points urges Congressional Dems and outside allies to blast the GOP for lying about Medicare with “outright falsehoods” and “disingenuous scare tactics.”

The talking points — which were sent over by a source and are being privately distributed on the Hill and among liberal groups — contain some of the toughest and most partisan language yet used by an administration that had long held out hope of winning over Republican support. A sample:

Talking Points: Republicans’ Disingenuous Scare Tactics on Medicare

[...]

These distortions and outright falsehoods would be offensive under any circumstances, but they’re especially disingenuous coming from a group who has a long history of opposing Medicare and who very recently tried to kill the program as we know it.

[...]

The talking points suggest the White House is concerned that Republican claims about Medicare are gaining traction, and that the administration recognizes that a tougher response — complete with a history lesson about GOP intentions towards the program — may be necessary to reverse that tide. Read the full talking points right here.

Timing is everything.
