VIDEO- Jon Kyl: GOP Willing To Filibuster Obama’s Yet-To-Be-Named SCOTUS Nominee
By GottaLaff
As I posted yesterday, Justice Stevens is saying that he will make a decision soon about retiring.
Today on Fox News Sunday, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) already held open the possibility that the person President Obama nominates may face a filibuster
Well that didn't take long. Kyl went from cooperation to hypocrisy in only 4 posts:
As Wallace noted, in 2005 — when Republicans were in the majority — Kyl had a very different opinion of the filibuster.
Oh, and it's all the Dems' fault for filibustering Miguel Estrada. You may remember how they threw his name around a whole lot during now-Judge Sotomayor's confirmation hearings.
I wonder how he feels about being used so much.
So. This should be another fun process, don'tcha think?

Gibbs: By next Sunday, healthcare reform will be 'law of the land'
By GottaLaff

"We'll have the votes when the House votes, I think, within the next week," Gibbs said on "Fox News Sunday."
Gibbs added that those on next week's Sunday talk shows "will be talking about healthcare not as a presidential proposal but I think as the law of the land."
President Barack Obama will look to campaign on the new healthcare law in midterm elections, Gibbs said.
"We believe healthcare reform is going to pass, and once it passes we're happy to have the 2010 elections be about the achievement of healthcare reform," Gibbs said.
Of course, it goes without saying that the GOP is thinking negative.

Rachel Maddow gives Meet the Press another ratings bump, beats Fox easily
By GottaLaff

Yes, NBC, America elected a bunch of Democrats, and we'd like to see them fairly represented on shows like Meet the Press:
The NBC Sunday morning program moderated by David Gregory averaged 4.162 million total viewers for first place. That's the show's highest total viewer delivery since March 22, 2009. [...]
Maddow's first appearance, in August, brought the show its highest numbers since April.
Wowzers, over 4 million, huh? Wonder how ClusterFox did:
"FOX News Sunday" averaged 1.208 million total viewers in its FOX broadcast.
Get the hint, NBC?

VIDEO- Palin: Congress Should Not Repeal DADT 'Right Now'
By GottaLaff
Oy.
What about what we actually need during times of war, Russia McFrontPorch? F'rinstance, skilled interpreters, more troops, other various experts, not to mention the issue of discrimination against those who are equally qualified to serve their country:
In fact, as historian Mary L. Dudziak points out, wartime has actually “the context for the expansion of equality rights” within the military and civil society. President Truman desegregated the military in the context (and largely because of) the Korean War. Congress passed ‘The Women’s Armed Services Integration Act’ — granting women permanent status in the Regular and Reserve forces of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and the Air Force — in 1948, and President Johnson signed sweeping Civil Rights legislation during the conflict in Vietnam. And while we're depriving our military, she opines, how about starting a war with Iran?
Dippy McTelePalmer as Commander In Chief. Think about it.
If that doesn't mobilize Democrats, nothing will.
VIDEO: Palin recommends launching war with Iran
By GottaLaff
"I'd like him to" support Israel? Did she really just say that? With every statement she utters, she proves herself to be increasingly out of touch, a blatant liar, and a nasty, snide know-nothing.
And don't get me started on her war-mongering:
Palin indicated that his chances of winning would dramatically change if Obama simply declared war on Iran:WALLACE: How hard do you think President Obama would be to defeat in 2012?
PALIN: It depends on a few things, say he played — I got this from Buchanan — say he played the war card. Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decide to really come out and do whatever he could to support Israel–which I would like him to do. That changes the dynamics of what we can assume will happen between now and three years. Because I think if the election were today, Obama would not be elected.
What? No song? She must have forgotten to write the words on her palm:

Palin: I can potentially help our country in 2012
By GottaLaff
Here's the quote from Malice in Wonderland:
"I think that it would be absurd to not consider what it is that I can potentially do to help our country."I'm not sure if she had that written on her palm or not. She's so change-y, it's hard to say what that little dickens will do next.
-- Sarah Palin, in an interview on Fox News Sunday, on whether she'll consider running for president in 2012.
Here's the counter-argument (h/t: Ursula):
So that's what $100K buys
Maybe I missed something, but if anything that speech was meaner and dumber than her RNC speech, and most importantly, even more shrill and predictable. What an odd mix of platitudes, cliches, and warmed-over goulash from her Facebook posts. (Maybe she recycles? That seems socialist.)
Let's take out our Sarah Palin hymnal and follow along....
1. Lamestream media was mean to my kids (check)
2. Look everybody, I didn't abort my special-needs baby! (check)
3. Obama is a terrorist-loving, law professor apologist who (unlike me) blames everyone else for everything (check)
4. Ha ha Obama uses a teleprompter instead of notes like the ones I'm having trouble reading (check)
5. Let's stop being politically correct except when I feel the need to be politically correct. (check)
6. Fewer taxes, tort reform, get out of the way of business, can't we bomb something, I'm ticked off, the children are our future, soylent green is people....zzzzz (check)
7. Constitution good except when applied to people I think are bad! (check)
8. Hopey-changey is stupid, except for my new improved fragrant brand of hopey-changey, available now for $24.95 and signed by the autopen my PAC bought (check)
9. Did I mention I have 5 houses, my own Fox studio, an enormous bumpit, a ton of money, and I'm just like you? (OK, maybe she didn't say this, but she thought it.)
10. Reagan, God, terrorism, divine intervention, patriotism, Reagan, terrorism, hey, did I mention my kid is a soldier? Oops, gotta skedaddle before someone accidentally asks me for concrete solutions and original ideas! Thanks for the check, Real Americans! (check)

VIDEO- Steele: Reid should step down from leadership role for 'Negro' remark
By GottaLaff
Yesterday I posted about Harry Reid's apology for "Negro dialect" remarks he hade made about pre-President Obama during the 2008 election season. Obama accepted the apology.
From the Dep't. of Look Who's Talking About Who Should Step Down:
The chairman of the Republican National Committee called Sunday for Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to step down as Majority Leader in the wake of revelations that he used the term "Negro" when discussing President Barack Obama's 2008 candidacy.Trent Lott resigned as Majority Leader in 2002 for praising Strom Thurmond and his 1948 candidacy.
"I think he should, if the standard is the one set by [Trent Lott]," Steele said on "Fox News Sunday" when asked if Reid should resign his post.
Back to the Department of Look Who's Talking, Michael Steele apparently forgot about his own "Honest Injun" slur. Until he can acquire a shred of credibility for himself, he's the last one who should be pointing fingers.
UPDATE, via an e-mail alert from Politico:
Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, tells POLITICO that it's "entirely appropriate" for Sen. Harry Reid to step down as majority leader over comments about President Barack Obama's skin color and lack of a "Negro dialect."

VIDEO: Huckabee unsure about another presidential bid
By GottaLaff

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday he remains undecided about another presidential run in 2012 [...]It's Sunday Talker Day: Trial balloon time.
"It's hard to say. A lot of it depends on how the elections turn out next year," Huckabee said of the 2010 mid-term vote expected to bring some Republican gains in Congress.
[...] Huckabee said he would need assurances that the Republican Party would unite behind his candidacy, unlike 2008 when he was considered an outsider by the GOP mainstream.
"It's less likely than more likely," Huckabee said of running for the GOP nomination again.Know why? Because he loves his day job. Who wouldn't enjoy working at ClusterFox, what with its warm, welcoming atmosphere and inclusive ambiance?
"The reason I wouldn't is this FOX gig I've got right now ... is really, really wonderful," Huckabee said of his talk show on the network.
You know what they say: Home is where the heart is.

VIDEO- ACORN filmmaker: ‘I don’t know’ if I broke law
By GottaLaff
This video is from Fox’s Fox News Sunday, broadcast Sept. 27, 2009.
The filmmaker behind the ACORN tapes says he doesn’t know if he broke Maryland law when he filmed workers at the group’s Baltimore office.Come on, that doesn't matter. The ends justify the means, right Slick?
Okay, now stop me if you've heard this one, but it's a real knee-slapper. I'm telling you right now, it'll slay you:Fox’s Chris Wallace named James O’Keefe the “Power Player of the Week” for the videos he made of himself and a female companion pretending to be a pimp and a prostitute, soliciting advice from ACORN workers on how to cover up the importation of underage prostitutes from Latin America. [...]
It should be noted the hidden-cam video involved only false claims of prostitution and child smuggling. Under Maryland law, all parties involved in a private conversation must consent to be recorded, under criminal penalty.
Maryland’s state’s attorney is reportedly considering bringing charges against O’Keefe for his role in the video.
Fox’s Wallace said O’Keefe describes himself as a “progressive” who developed a “special outrage” against progressive movements because of what he perceived as their hypocrisy and excessive political correctness.(click on red button)

VIDEO: Howard Dean: Van Jones Resignation A 'Loss For The Country'
By GottaLaff
Who needs health insurance when you've got someone like Howard Dean to lower your blood pressure?
This is a far cry from the image the Rushpublic smear machine painted back when they declared him to be a screaming nut case. Far from it.
Dean has been a much needed passionate Democratic spokesperson, combined with the ability to act as a steady, reliable voice of reason.
The true screaming nut cases are all over the network in this video.
