RNC fires finance director & deputy director following spending scandals

By GottaLaff

Heads are rolling... because, hey, that's how the RNC, well, rolls:

The Republican National Committee has fired Finance Director Rob Bickhart in the wake of a two embarrassing scandals that originated in the committee's fundraising department.

Deputy Finance Director Debbie LeHardy has also been removed from her post.

Remember that powerpoint presentation to Republican donors that stooped to the usual fear tactics, calling Obama a socialist, blahblah spewspew? That would be the same powerpoint in which they referred to GOP donors as "ego-driven". Bickhart was reportedly the one behind it.

"Our famous prayer is that the Americans... get eliminated and they go home."

By GottaLaff

South Africa's police commissioner wants us to lose, get knocked right out of the World Cup. In the first round. In fact, they're praying we do. Aw.

But it's nothing personal, they're just concerned about security. If President Obama drops in, it will overwhelm them:

[General Bheki ] Cele said: "Our famous prayer is that the Americans don't make the second round. (That) They get eliminated and they go home."

South Africa's top policeman said he had provisional confirmation that 43 heads of state would go to the World Cup, and "those 43 will be equal to this one operation" if Obama made the trip.

No offense taken.

Tennessee Governor on Obama response to flood: I've “never seen this kind of response.”

By GottaLaff

President Obama is weak. President Obama is a terrorist. President Obama is a Muslim Marxist Kenyan. President Obama is clearly in over his head. President Obama isn't one of us. President Obama will not get health care passed. President Obama is ruining the country. It's President Obama's economy.

President Obama is slow to respond to disasters.

Wrong. Wrongwrongwrong, on all counts. Well, he is the president, that part is true. As for that snail's pace thing? Phil Bredesen, the governor of Tennessee, where all that horrific flooding is, would disagree:

FEMA and the White House have been absolutely supportive,” he told reporters on a conference call.

Ding!

FEMA was quickly on the ground, and on Monday, “the president was on the phone with me before the sun came up,” he said.

Clang!

Bredesen, who has weathered his share of tornados and storms as a public official, said that he’s “never seen this kind of response.”

Ah-OOO-gah!

Dear Obama haters:

Please STFU.

Love, Laffy.

Senator Jon Kyl Jokes About Obama Drowning

By GottaLaff

Some things just aren't funny, Jon Kyl:

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ) "got a big laugh on Saturday at a National Republican Senatorial Committee retreat, but his joke definitely wouldn't be funny to some people," The Hill reports.

His joke: "So Obama, Pelosi and Reid are in a row boat, and it springs a leak and starts to sink. Who gets saved?" Answer: "The American people."

I can just picture the chortling and rib jabbing now. I wonder if they'd be chortling and rib jabbing if they had the good sense to realize how they might be influencing the more violent among us.

Of course, had a Democrat made the same tasteless joke about a Republican leadership, all hell would have broken loose, there would have been demands for hearings, 24/7 media coverage, condemnation in loud, indignant voices, and calls for impeachment/resignation/prison time/firing squads.

That Family Values party has some sense of humor... and don't get me started on their outstanding judgment.

Quote of the Day

No such luck. Via Taegan-

'It wasn't that I thought that my political outreach and charm would immediately end partisan politics. I just thought that there would be enough of a sense of urgency that at least for the first year there would be an interest in governing. And you just didn't see that."

-- President Obama, quoted in The Promise: President Obama, Year One by Jonathan Alter, on Republican obstruction being his biggest surprise since taking office.

Which high school will get Obama as graduation speaker

Pretty weird since I've seen a couple places (can't remember where) that he's headed out to Kalamazoo for this. Guess we'll wait and see. Update- See, it is Kalamazoo.

(CNN) - Students at one high school will learn Tuesday if the president will be their commencement speaker.

The White House asked Americans to help pick a winning high school from a list of six finalists. The list was cut to three recently, the White House said.

"The race was neck and neck all the way to the end with all six schools within half a point of each other," a White House statement said. "Thank you to the more than 170,00 people who weighed in and rated the six finalist schools."

The top three schools in the White House's annual initiative, the High School Commencement Challenge were:

· Clark Montessori Junior High and High School (Cincinnati, Ohio)
· Kalamazoo Central High School (Kalamazoo, Michigan)
· Denver School of Science and Technology (Denver, Colorado)

President Barack Obama will choose the winner from these schools.

Note to Punditiots: Gulf oil disaster is NOT "Obama's Katrina"

By GottaLaff

In an earlier post, I mentioned how some in the media (Gee, guess who?) are pushing the meme that the Gulf oil catastrophe is "Obama's Katrina". Wrong. It's a memorable catch phrase, but it's inaccurate, to say the least. But that won't stop them from perpetuating the lies. It never has, it never will.

While BP was the first responder, the Coast Guard reacted right away to the situation and deployed 70 vessels and 1 million feet of boom for possible service, Napolitano said.

Salazar noted that the Obama administration has ordered inspections of "blowout preventers" on other Gulf rigs. The government's job was to "keep the boot on the neck" of BP to ensure it meets its obligations in stopping the spill, dealing with the oil slick and paying for all costs and damages.

President Obama is on his way:

President Obama headed to Louisiana on Sunday to see for himself the growing oil slick from a damaged offshore well that threatens the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Compare that to this memory jogger, "A Tale of Two Photos":

As for the meme, maybe this will help, Via Greg Sargent:

Michael Shear counts the ways that the Gulf oil spill isn’t Katrina:

The gulf oil spill is no Katrina, in which 1,836 people died amid the near total devastation of one of America’s great cities

Unlike Katrina, there has been no obvious failures of government, no images to compare to the Superdome or the flooded streets of St. Bernard Parish. And unlike Katrina, there is an easy target for blame in the current oil spill: the oil giant BP, which by law is the “responsible party” and must pay for all of the costs of the cleanup.

However, if you are a Rushpublic, it's all Obama's fault. So is that paper cut I just got, according to them.... And that flat tire that caused gridlock on the 101 freeway, along with global warming, terrorism, locusts, Vanilla Ice's career, and Trump's hair.

Quickie: Twofer edition

By GottaLaff

Today's Quickie is a twofer, and they both come by way of Greg Sargent:

* Today’s prize for bucking the Beltway-approved narrative goes to Jonathan Alter, for making an audacious suggestion: Rather than asking whether the Gulf spill is Obama’s Katrina, let’s ask whether it should give new momentum to energy reform.

* Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, a gung-ho backer of the Arizona immigration law, says he will decide whether to ride his tough-on-immigration notoriety to launch a run for higher office, commenting thusly:

“I am not running for governor now until I decide over the weekend with a glass of wine and my wife, since my mother and father came here from Italy, with a little spaghetti and meatballs.”

Well now, those are two hefty little Quickies. One relates back to this post, in which I complained about the Katrina meme that the pretend news insists upon pushing.

As for Arpaio, I posted about him here. He's hopeless and has no business being in the public eye or in public office, let alone anywhere else.

That was today's Quickie Twofer. Was it good for you?

National Enquirer retracts claim of Obama sex scandal

By GottaLaff

I knew this was coming. But first, before that all-important retraction, make sure the word got out there, right?

The National Enquirer, which published a report this morning that “investigators are attempting to obtain a tape” that proved an illicit rendezvous between President Barack Obama and former US Senate campaign staffer Vera Baker, has updated their story this afternoon to retract the claim that there is video evidence of the affair with the alleged testimony of an anonymous chauffeur.

Looks like the National Enquirer Obama sex scandal is unraveling rather quickly.

How perfectly timed to go with the bogus "Catastrophic oil slick is Obama's Katrina" meme. That librul press, always siding with the dictator!
