At 31% Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll, Palin? 7%
By GottaLaff

Ron Paul won the CPAC straw poll.
Via Greg Mitchell:
Fox anchor says "amazing how much support Ron Paul has, I've never seen a politician with such a strong organization." No, not a joke.
Poor Mitt Willard Romney. His winning streak is over.
Results via Mike Madden:
Straw poll at #CPAC10:
Ron Paul wins with 31%,
Mitt Romney 22%,
Sarah Palin 7%,
Tim Pawlenty 6%,
Mike Pence 5%,
Newt Gingrich 4%.
Losey McSevenPercent comes in third. And Newtie? Yeah, no.
Then again, these things don't mean much. But it is fun to snark about.

Mike Pence: "'No' is just what this town needs to hear."
By GottaLaff
Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) "made no apologies for trying to stop President Obama's agenda in Congress, telling conservative activists he proudly wears the 'Party of No' label that Democrats have tried to pin on Republicans," CNN reports.
Said Pence: "Some folks like to call us the 'Party of No.' Well, I say 'No' is way underrated here in Washington, D.C. Sometimes 'No' is just what this town needs to hear."
Please do make that your mantra. Louder, though. We need the entire country to hear your insane pride in bringing badly needed legislation to a screeching halt.

Mike Pence Will Not Challenge Bayh

Oh oh. I do not have a good feeling about this. Time to start the oppo research on Pence, he's too freaking smooth. Via Taegan-
Sources confirm to Erick Erickson that Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) will not run for the U.S. Senate from Indiana, despite polls showing he could beat Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN).
Pence will soon send out a letter to supporters outlining his reasons.
Instead, Pence is said to be considering a 2012 presidential bid.
Evan Bayh Polling Behind Mike Pence
If it was anyone, and I mean I'd even take a Newt Gingrich, anyone but Mike Pence I just might be happy about this, but Pence is Damien. Latest Bayh soul baring gaffe? Cesca caught Bayh parrotting Palinspeak this am.

Rep. Mike Pence, Who Led Witch Hunt Against Van Jones, Took $1000s From Xe's Erik Prince
By GottaLaff
Via Jeremy Scahill, who has been doing some superb work, something more reporters should try their hand at:
Rep. Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican whose name has been mentioned as a potential GOP presidential candidate (and who is not sure if he believes in evolution), led the witch-hunt to force the resignation of White House Green Jobs advisor, Van Jones, over comments Jones made years ago and a 9/11 “truth” petition Jones signed which he said he did not read in its entirety. [...]
Late Saturday, Jones resigned. [...]On Friday, Pence, who describes himself as “Christian, Conservative, Republican, in that order,” said Jones’s “extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this administration or the public debate.” Beyond the obvious here (the hate-filled rhetoric we see every day from racist, right-wing wackos, including those in public office), it is an interesting comment considering that Pence is an extremist right-wing evangelical Christian who has taken thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Blackwater’s owner, Erik Prince. Prince has also donated to Pence’s Political Action Committee “Principles Exalt a Nation.” [...]
Should Pence resign for cavorting with and accepting campaign cash from a man who allegedly “views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe,” in the words of a former employee? Oh, right. Those are apparently positive attributes in Pence’s view.
Raise your hand if you've seen this reported on the news wasteland I am now calling CNC (Corporate News Channels), home of the worst, least trusted political news team(s) on TV ever.
Thank you Jeremy Scahill, for providing us with actual, you know, information.

Health Care Bill, Debunkage + VIDEO: Pence busted for trillion dollar lie!
By GottaLaff
My longtime blogger/Twitter friend Karoli has linked me to two wonderful sites. She has spent an enormous amount of time and effort to support health care reform, as you can see by following the links.
Karoli and Co. are the debunkers in chief. Here's who they are debunking:
Since Congress doesn’t want to read the Health Care Bill and Obama, ACORN, Unions, Lawyers, & Special Interest Groups don’t want you to know whats in this monstrosity, I decided to do it myself. I’ve taken all my tweets on the HC bill and put them into one single place for your enjoyment. Additionally here is the link to the full bill – Health Care Bill [...]That was just a nibble.Enjoy and remember – the President & Congress are YOUR servants, not the other way around.

Now for a few excerpts from Health Care Reform Myths, who worked hand in hand with Karoli:
There is so much valuable information on these two sites, this post does little justice to their immense undertaking. Please click on the links for more.Canada, et al
We will have long wait times for healthcare services if we end up with a public option.
Fact This doesn't even make sense. Are we suddenly going to have a shortage of doctors? Is everyone going to make a mad rush to the physician's office? This is usually tied to an anecdotal report from Canada. The reality is that wait times vary from area to area, as well as from service to service in Canada, but it's rarely as bad as reported.
Government Control
There will be a Government Committee that decides what treatments and benefits you get.
MythThere will be a Government Committee that decides what treatments and benefits you get.
Fact Referencing Pg 30, Sec 123 of HR 3200, from Viral Emails
This section refers to the creation of an advisory panel for purposes of determining standards for the minimum, intermediate, and premium benefits packages. One of the most common myths out there is that benefits/treatments/etc will somehow be "rationed" by the government. In fact, the idea behind this commission is to bring together the different actors who are involved in provision of treatments and benefits to determine what should be deemed a "basic" benefit and what should fall into other tiers. Again, this section simply creates a panel who gives recommendations to the Secretary of HHS.Ref.US Health CrisisSee page 30 of bill below

VIDEO: GOP's new youth ambassador: Lady Gaga?
By GottaLaff

[T]his may be the oddest couple to ever make beautiful music together: House Republicans…and pop diva Lady Gaga.At Tuesday morning's weekly GOP conference meeting, Republicans were shown a clip of a video parody of the Lady Gaga hit, "Just Dance" that replaces the popular song's refrain with "Just Tax."
The parody video was developed by Peter Cowman, a 23-year-old who just graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, outside Rep Dave Reichert's district. [...]
"He wanted them to encourage the youth in their district, and share the message on a level that young people can relate to," Reichert's spokeswoman told CNN.
Asked about the video, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind, laughed and said "it's part of the Pence youth initiative."

Pence, GOP to grill Clinton on Chavez 'aftermath'

You can watch the live stream here already in session. I think Mike Pence is one of the more dangerous asshats out there, but he may have met his match with Secretary Clinton.
GOP Conference Chairman Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon called the photographs taken of President Obama and Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez shaking hands at the Summit of the Americas "an enormous propaganda victory for the socialist dictator."**Um, wouldn't this be editorializing in a straight reporting article Hill journalists?
Pence indicated that House Republicans intended to confront Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about Obama and Chavez meeting and mugging** for the cameras when she appears before the Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday morning.
He said that rank-and-file members have been discussing the "aftermath" of last week's summit where Obama and Chavez were photographed in "what appeared to be the friendly dialogue."

Cannibalism
By GottaLaff
And thank you for joining us for another edition of "Republicans Eating They're Own".House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) raised objections to an abbreviated alternative budget "blueprint" released today -- but were told by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) they needed to back the plan, according to several Republican sources.
... he and Cantor were reportedly told by Boehner and Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) they needed to move more quickly to counter Democrats' charge they were becoming the "Party of No," according to House GOP staffers.
“In his egocentric rush to get on camera, Mike Pence threw the rest of the Conference under the bus, specifically Paul Ryan, whose staff has been working night and day for weeks to develop a substantive budget plan," said a GOP aide heavily involved in budget strategy.
"I hope his camera time was gratifying enough to justify erasing the weeks of hard work by dozens of Republicans to put forth serious ideas," the person added.

Moderates Fear Republican Study Committee

Could you imagine the screeching that would go out from the Traditional Media if the Blue Dog Democrats were scared of the Progressive Caucus? But whackjobs like Cantor and Pence getting to set the tone for the Republicans? No problem.
Moderate House Republicans "are more worried about the pressures from their right, where the Republican Study Committee is taking names and conservatives are raising the prospect of primary challenges, than about potential fallout from opposing a popular president," reports CQ Politics.
CQ Weekly has a must read piece on the Republican Study Committee, "the caucus of the most rightward thinking members of the House."

VIDEO: John King and Mike Pence Cite Nonexistent CBO Report on "State of the Union"
By GottaLaffJohn King and Congressman Mike Pence citing the nonexistent CBO report debunked by the Huffington Post here.
Debunked, guys. De. Bunked.
Paddy tells me: Mark Green was on "In the Money" and he didn't dispute it when it was brought up by Amy Holmes. If the owner of Air America doesn't stand up for us....
Either these talking-asses don't read, or they're shortsighted invertebrates who enjoy making idiots of themselves and/or their parties on international television. Either way, they don't deserve to be hosting and/or opining to a woefully ill-informed, gullible public.

VIDEO gag alert: House conservatives say Bush was a "knowing lion" who "walked among us"
By GottaLaff
And thus was the sinkhole of a being named George Bush, whose wisenheimer wisdom doth still touch us the way a cattle prod doth evoke agonized mooage; whose erudition was equal to none but that of Carrot Top; and whose repugnance still reverberates as doth that solitary brain wave in Sarah Palin's vacuous skull...
Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Mike Pence (R-IN), and Steve King (R-IA) last Thursday:
Let us bow our heads and pray...At one point, Franks began to tear up when talking about how Bush made the country “brighter” and “more hopeful” for his children. Throughout the 40 minutes, they also compared Bush to Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill.– FRANKS: “President Bush often had to walk like a knowing lion — like a knowing lion, Mr. Speaker, through the chattering of hyenas. … [I]f those critics do not devour themselves in the meantime, Mr. Speaker, they may face the bared teeth of an enemy that will make us all wish the lion still walked among us.”
– PENCE: “I truly believe that this nation owes a debt of gratitude to George W. Bush.”
– KING: “I’m here to say thank you to President Bush for the things that he has done when he’s had his steady hand on the till of leadership, and especially with our national defense.”
Yes, pray, you heareth me correctly; this atheist is resorting to prayer so that we never, ever again haveth another president as loathsome as the wretched George W. Bush. Let that message be echoed from this moment on, so that our children and our children's children can add this particular "knowing lion" to the extinct species list.
Amen.
Sad to See Bush Go Bye-Bye
At least the kid doesn't call him a "knowing lion... who walks amongst us". I'm truly ashamed Pence is from Indiana.
