PhotOh! Obama the Palin Shoeshiner via, yes, another nasty e-mail

By GottaLaff

Gryphen has the whole story behind this appalling photo. Please go read, and bring your Pepto with you:

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/129800/thumbs/s-SHOESHINE-large.jpg

Gryphen:
And just to give the people who support this kind of thing a little reality check. Barack Obama is our president, while Sarah Palin is a woman who quit her job, wrote a book full of lies, and is so terrified of me that she had me banned from a public event.
These disgusting, doctored photos never fail to turn my stomach and make me wonder how the cretins who find them so amusing became so pathetically racist. Why were they taught to be that way? Why couldn't they evolve... just a little?

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Who ARE these 9/12ers and Far Right Subversives?

By GottaLaff

(Photo via trinakt)

I was brought up to be respectful of others, taught never to bully, glorify violence, or exhibit inappropriate hostility. Until relatively recently, I believed that most others followed basic rules of decency and ethics.

Because I was raised to follow the rules, to do unto others, and to listen and respond in a reasonable, logical way, I idealistically hoped I'd get what I gave.

I was wrong.

What is happening? Who are these vicious, seething people? Why do they act as they do?

Frank Schaeffer gives us his take here. Here are a few excerpts, but please follow the link for the details:
  • Protecting Your Children From Satan: To protect your children from Satan -- in other words mainstream, open patriotic and pluralistic America -- you either kept them at home where mom and dad could teach the children right from wrong or send them to a cloistered private evangelical/fundamentalist school.
  • The Anti-American Home Schoolers Come Of Age: If you wonder who it is that's both running and underwriting organizations such as the Family Research Council, Focus On The Family, Freedom Works and other organizers of the 9/12 March and who are most faithful followers the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh or viewers of Fox News your answer is: it's the home school/Christian school generation of men and women now hitting their thirties and even forties who might as well have been raised on a different planet.
  • Evangelical Red Guards: Who are Glenn Beck's foot soldiers? In effect what we have is a group of indoctrinated people who have never actually lived in America because they were brought up deliberately cloistered from it by their parents and churches. Because they are legally "Americans" they can move freely around our democracy trying to destroy it working within the United States. Today they are acting like a fifth column, no, they are a fifth column. Some of them have not just seceded metaphorically, there is even a growing movement for states to secede literally.

Today the right wing America haters actually are doing to America what no "illegal" immigrants ever do: work to overthrow our democracy and replace it with a theocracy. The home-schooled, privately educated brainwashed horde are an antidemocratic, fundamentally anti-American political movement. For a start they do not accept the results of the last election.
  • Liberal/Progressive Wishful Thinking and Blindness: Meanwhile those ordinary Americans including many Democrats, progressives and liberal's who work within the system can hardly imagine that there are people so far outside the lines of what they regard as ordinary decent behavior that the progressives seem psychologically unequipped to deal with this reality.
  • Bipartisan Pipe Dream: Because you can't be bipartisan with people who don't play by the same rules--say accepting the will of the people -- as you do. [...] I, as a life-long Republican and former Religious Right activist helped create this situation. But Tanenhaus and others like him just don't get the fact that the far right is resurgent, in fact more dangerous than ever as a wounded animal is dangerous. They don't get it because kindly liberals also live in a bubble.
  • The Last Chess Game You'll Ever Play: What reasonable people don't understand is this: if one person is playing chess abiding by the rules and their opponent is losing at the chess game it may appear that they have lost the match. But what if one person is willing to change the rules?
  • Serial Killers: To understand the Religious Right today and how dangerous they are don't think politics-- think serial killers who "win" by "getting even" with the society they perceive as having disrespected them. It isn't about facts. It isn't about election results. It isn't about truth. It's about victimhood and revenge on the "elite" in other words on everyone not like you. It is about the weird combination of sadism and masochism Blumenthal describes in his book.
  • New Rules: Anarchy and Scorched Earth: What those who think that the power of the Religious Right and/or the Republicans is ended don't understand is that it's only ended if you believe in the rules. When I say the rules I mean, for instance, that if you lose an election the other side gets to legislate. However if your opponent is not interested in the rules and is, A) waiting for Jesus to return and consume all the "infidels" or, B) you are just waiting to take that "lead pipe" out of your back pocket -- say go to public meetings and intimidate people by carrying loaded weapons to those meetings -- or worse, maybe even use them to shoot down someone -- all polite bets are off!
  • Religious Right Growing Again: To the progressives who think that the Religious Right and the right wing has lost its power I say this: You're correct when it comes to political facts (for the moment) of the last election, but you're dead wrong when it comes to the way revolutions work.
  • Second American "Tea Party" Revolution: Revolutionaries never have played by the rules. They don't have to win by the rules. They hate the rules. They don't live in a rule based or fact based universe. [...] In order to "win" -- in other words destroy our country as we know it -- the far right merely needs to be true to its own rule which is, to put it very mildly, that coloring outside the lines is not only perfectly okay but required.
  • Conclusion: The tactics that progressives develop for actually winning against the right have to involve far more than politics. They have to also involve ceaseless vigilance against an enemy that has now -- literally -- raised up an armed, paranoid and deluded alternative nation within our borders and created a fifth column to undermine the United States and our democracy. They need to be called out by the rest of us in no uncertain terms.
There is much more. Please read the rest, but in a nutshell, that's what Schaeffer thinks. What do you think?

U.S. Chamber of Commerce seeks "Scopes-like" hearing on global warming

By GottaLaff

http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/scopestrial012109.jpg

Okay, okay, I have to admit, I've had my doubts about evolution. Why? Why would a liberal Commie pinko Marxist Socialist Fascist such as myself say something like that? George W. Bush, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin... you get the idea. With specimens like those, the theory of evolution is pretty easily disputed.

However, despite my misgivings, and as much as I long--no, desperately and tearfully yearn-- for a universal group hug with all those well-meaning, patriotic, even-handed, open-minded, scientifically oriented, intellectual Rushpublic mental giants [please note the dripping sarcasm here], I draw the line at this:
The nation's largest business lobby wants to put the science of global warming on trial.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, trying to ward off potentially sweeping federal emissions regulations, is pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to hold a rare public hearing on the scientific evidence for man-made climate change.

Chamber officials say it would be "the Scopes monkey trial of the 21st century" -- complete with witnesses, cross-examinations and a judge who would rule, essentially, on whether humans are warming the planet to dangerous effect.

"It would be evolution versus creationism," said William Kovacs, the chamber's senior vice president for environment, technology and regulatory affairs. "It would be the science of climate change on trial."

Frustrated Emoticons And Smileys | GraphicsGrotto.com

How can such clear-thinking, sensible, unbiased, America-First, family values Rushpublic folks meander so easily into the Land of Wrong? Why, I may now have to rethink my inclusive bipartisan outreach efforts.
The goal of the chamber, which represents 3 million large and small businesses, is to fend off potential emissions regulations by undercutting the scientific consensus over climate change. If the EPA denies the request, as expected, the chamber plans to take the fight to federal court.
Frustrated Emoticons And Smileys | GraphicsGrotto.com
The EPA is having none of it, calling a hearing a "waste of time" and saying that a threatened lawsuit by the chamber would be "frivolous."

EPA spokesman Brendan Gilfillan said the agency based its proposed finding that global warming is a danger to public health "on the soundest peer-reviewed science available, which overwhelmingly indicates that climate change presents a threat to human health and welfare."

Environmentalists say the chamber's strategy is an attempt to sow political discord by challenging settled science -- and note that in the famed 1925 Scopes trial, which pitted lawyers Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan in a courtroom battle over a Tennessee science teacher accused of teaching evolution illegally, the scientists won in the end.

The chamber proposal "brings to mind for me the Salem witch trials, based on myth," said Brenda Ekwurzel, a climate scientist for the environmental group Union of Concerned Scientists. "In this case, it would be ignoring decades of publicly accessible evidence."
The Chamber of Comatose has also gotten just a tad defensive over Henry Waxman's efforts to "get large amounts of potentially embarrassing financial information from health insurance companies." What a touchy bunch they are.
The proposed finding has drawn more than 300,000 public comments. Many of them question scientists' projections that rising temperatures will lead to increased mortality rates, harmful pollution and extreme weather events such as hurricanes.
Gaa! Is nobody properly educated any more? Or aware of satellite photos like these?

measurements of winter sea ice thickness over Arctic Ocean, 2004 and 2008
"The need for urgent action to address climate change is now indisputable," said a recent letter to world leaders by the heads of the top science agencies in 13 of the world's largest countries, including the head of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
And to add insult to Arctic melting, they have the temerity to say global warming is-- wait for it-- good for us:
Critics of the finding say it's far from certain that warming will cause any harm at all. The Chamber of Commerce cites studies that predict higher temperatures will reduce mortality rates in the United States.
Pants on Fire!

Sadly, the collective pants of the Chamber of Corporate Crackpots won't be the only thing on fire if the current climate crisis is ignored.

The Queen approves. Okay?

By GottaLaff

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2009-04-02-hug.jpg
What part of this does CNN not understand?
A Buckingham Palace spokesman who asked not to be identified because of palace policy said he could not remember the last time the queen had displayed such public affection with a first lady or dignitary.

"It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection," he said. "We don't issue instructions on not touching the queen."

Today's top stories include: The G20 summit, President Obama's speech, Blagojevich is indicted, the House approves a budget blueprint, the economy, the economy, the economy, Afghanistan, Iraq, tobacco products will be regulated, the truth commission is on its last legs... okay, I'll stop here.

Whaddya think? Could those stories fill an hour of cable "news" [sic]? In Tee Vee Machine time, that's about 44 minutes, maybe less on cable. If you answered yes, and I answered yes, then why didn't CNN? Anderson Cooper devoted an entire segment to interviews with everyone he could drag in front of a camera about whether or not Michelle ::gasp!:: violated Queen Elizabeth.

Hold everything. No way. Anderson is at it again. It's seven minutes before the end of his show, and he's all over The Touch... again. The second time in an hour. Un. Be. Lievable.

Former Aides Come to George W. Bush's Defense

By GottaLaff

Delusional? Desperate for attention? Feeling the need to justify eight years of abject failure? Sociopaths? I ask. You decide:
[W]hen Barack Obama took over, some Bushies vowed to play defense when W's record was maligned. Thus was born www.43alumni.com, an online community of former Bush team members. "In the age of Facebook," says Bush spokesman Rob Saliterman, "it made sense to create the page to stay in touch with each other." Besides networking, 43alumni will be countering stories about Bush that his team feels are unfair.
Unfair? Really? I'm pretty sure they never saw this then.
A section called Setting the Record Straight, says Saliterman, "will be responding to misleading and inaccurate comments about the president's record." The site [...] will be funded with dues paid by Bushies.
They really should save their money for all those lawyers they're going to be hiring.

Some people think this is really, truly, awesomely, overwhelmingly important.

So important that they're rummaging through the recycling bins to see what kind of soda cans Team Obama tossed out.

VIDEO gag alert: House conservatives say Bush was a "knowing lion" who "walked among us"

By GottaLaff

And thus was the sinkhole of a being named George Bush, whose wisenheimer wisdom doth still touch us the way a cattle prod doth evoke agonized mooage; whose erudition was equal to none but that of Carrot Top; and whose repugnance still reverberates as doth that solitary brain wave in Sarah Palin's vacuous skull...

Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Mike Pence (R-IN), and Steve King (R-IA) last Thursday:

– FRANKS:President Bush often had to walk like a knowing lion — like a knowing lion, Mr. Speaker, through the chattering of hyenas. … [I]f those critics do not devour themselves in the meantime, Mr. Speaker, they may face the bared teeth of an enemy that will make us all wish the lion still walked among us.

– PENCE: “I truly believe that this nation owes a debt of gratitude to George W. Bush.”

– KING: “I’m here to say thank you to President Bush for the things that he has done when he’s had his steady hand on the till of leadership, and especially with our national defense.”

At one point, Franks began to tear up when talking about how Bush made the country “brighter” and “more hopeful” for his children. Throughout the 40 minutes, they also compared Bush to Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill.
Let us bow our heads and pray...

Yes, pray, you heareth me correctly; this atheist is resorting to prayer so that we never, ever again haveth another president as loathsome as the wretched George W. Bush. Let that message be echoed from this moment on, so that our children and our children's children can add this particular "knowing lion" to the extinct species list.

Amen.

Heighten security! Donate to Team Sarah! Put an end to "devilish" liberal bloggers' "frameup" of Palin!

By GottaLaff

This e-mail was forwarded to me by one of our readers. Good lord. Who are these people? Maybe they should take a gander at this before they invest their hard-earned bucks (those would be the same bucks that nobody has any more) on a donation to Team Sarah.

But, you guys, I mean, oh em gee, we liberals are "so "busted*"! This is "*so* going to blow up in our faces":
A message to all members of Team Sarah

Reply to teamsarah08@gmail.com.

Team,

Happy New Year and let's bring you up to date.

We caught red-handed a conspiracy at an awful site plotting to use dirty tricks to undermine Team Sarah. Their main tactic is to join and then to plant racist, scandalous, and other horrid content, or to tempt innocent members into doing so. Devilish! And then, we suspect, they plan to take their postings to a liberal blogger as "evidence."

In a word, a "frameup."

Well, Bill Collier, with a major assist from TeamSarah member Kelly S, and others, has them so *busted*! Among other things we have over 40 pages of evidence of their planning. This is *so* going to blow up in their faces, totally discrediting any liberal blogger who falls for their scheme. You can read Bill's post on RedState about the plot here: http://www.redstate.com/freedomist/2009/01/02/liberal-conspiracy-to-frame-and-defame-teamsarah-busted/.

Don't just read it! Send it around -- with an invitation to join us here!

We have heightened security, requiring more stringent review of new members, and putting on many extra security measures. More details soon! We will do whatever it takes to maintain the integrity of Team Sarah. This is kind of expensive, so a heartfelt thanks to all those community members who have already used our little red Donate button to send whatever they can easily afford -- whether $5 or $1000, we are so grateful for this support. It Matters! Thank you!

Our hearts are warmed by emails of praise for how hard we are working. And even moreso by this community's lionhearted fortitude in dealing with those who violate our terms of use by quietly reporting an issue (rather than getting into arguments).

The bigger and more powerful Team Sarah grows, the more attacks we can expect. But the stronger we are at repelling them. We are inspired by the courage and grace of Sarah Palin! And by yours.

Emily

Thank you again for any donation you can afford.

Visit Team Sarah at: http://www.teamsarah.org
If only we had their "lionhearted fortitude". Cuz, you know, like, "It Matters!" With a *Capital M*. And *extra* exclamation points!!

Turkey slaughtered in Palin's presence sells for $225 on eBay

By GottaLaff

http://rawstory.com/images/new/palinturkey.jpg
Someone actually paid more than two hundred dollars, at a time when paying off heating bills and mortgage payments tops wish lists across America, for a dead turkey that served as a gruesome backdrop for Oblivious Spice:
A bidder on eBay has paid $225 for the Alaska turkey who was slaughtered on camera as Gov. Sarah Palin gave one of her first televised interviews since her failed run for vice president.
This just proves that headless turkeys attract frivolous turkeys who vote for Alaskan turkeys.
The Triple D Farm sold the turkey to a single bidder on eBay, attempting to cash in on its fame while defending itself from the negative publicity Palin's interview spurred.

"Contrary to what some may believe or have heard we butcher our turkeys in the most humane, fastest and efficient way possible...We also respect Governor Palin for supporting our small family farm," the sellers wrote in their eBay product description. "Fifty percent of the proceeds from this turkey's auction will be donated to our local Department of Veteran's Affairs in support of our troops."
Kudos to Triple D for that last part.

Let them eat cake

By GottaLaff

Shafer Cabernet “Hillside Select” 2003 can go for as much as $500 a bottle.
Shafer Cabernet “Hillside Select” 2003 can go for as much as $500 a bottle.

Maybe the post title should have been, "Let them drink $500 wine":
[W]orld leaders who are in town to discuss the economic crisis are set to dine in style Friday night while sipping wine listed at nearly $500 a bottle.

According to the White House, tonight's dinner to kick off the G-20 summit includes such dishes as "Fruitwood-smoked Quail," "Thyme-roasted Rack of Lamb," and "Tomato, Fennel and Eggplant Fondue Chanterelle Jus."

To wash it all down, world leaders will be served Shafer Cabernet “Hillside Select” 2003, a wine that sells at $499 on Wine.com.

The exceedingly pricey wine may seem a bit peculiar given leaders are in Washington to discuss a possible world financial meltdown, but Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for Laura Bush, said it "was the most appropriate wine that we had in the White House wine cellar for such a gathering.

Yeah, we wouldn't want them to bring out them $399 bottles. That would be tacky.

McDonough also said the White House purchased the wine at a "significantly lower price" than what it is listed at.

"Of course the White House gets its wine at wholesale prices," she said. "Given the intimate size of the group, it was an appropriate time for The White House to use this stock."

So they paid, what, about $250 a pop wholesale? What a bargain.

I hope they remembered to purchase their quail at Costco... in bulk. After all, that's a heckuva big group they've invited in for supper.

It's all Bill Clinton's fault

By GottaLaff

When in doubt, blame Bill:

On CNN just now, the McCain surrogate just placed blame for our horrendous economy on Bill Clinton. Clinton created the bubble, even though Republicans de-regulated everything, you see. He said so, and therefore it is gospel.

Except that Hillary Rosen just swatted that one away.

Oh, and no matter who messed us up, Gramm-pa Sid is the one person who can fix this, doncha know. Ignore the past 8 years the way we're supposed to ignore the first 3 or 4 years of the Iraq occupation. It all started with the Surge.

And now, it all begins with the meltdown. There is no past. There is no blame. Nothing preceded this, and Grammps and his merry band-o'-lobbyists will make it all better.

Sure they will.

By the way, James Carville just swatted that one away.
