Some things just aren't funny, Jon Kyl:

Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ) "got a big laugh on Saturday at a National Republican Senatorial Committee retreat, but his joke definitely wouldn't be funny to some people," The Hill reports.

His joke: "So Obama, Pelosi and Reid are in a row boat, and it springs a leak and starts to sink. Who gets saved?" Answer: "The American people."

I can just picture the chortling and rib jabbing now. I wonder if they'd be chortling and rib jabbing if they had the good sense to realize how they might be influencing the more violent among us.

Of course, had a Democrat made the same tasteless joke about a Republican leadership, all hell would have broken loose, there would have been demands for hearings, 24/7 media coverage, condemnation in loud, indignant voices, and calls for impeachment/resignation/prison time/firing squads.

That Family Values party has some sense of humor... and don't get me started on their outstanding judgment.

Harold Ford apparently has the taste of a '70s drunk after a bad night out discoing. How's last century's decor working out for that big real estate deal, Hal?

This is Ford's apartment — the precise location of which caused something of a stir last week when Ford was quoted (erroneously, it turns out) as claiming to live a couple blocks from the federal courthouse in lower Manhattan. [...] [I]t could be yours for $1.4 million.

Also, it is extremely, relentlessly yellow. And turquoise. [...]

The apartment has been on the market for 224 days, according to New York magazine's real estate listings, and Ford and his wife Emily Threlkeld recently dropped the price by $90,000. [...]

A rep for Ford had no immediate comment on why he lives in a prison of unrelenting yellow, and how soon he hopes to escape from it.

Rand Paul spokesman praises video likening Trey Grayson to Hitler

So the answer to everything now is attaching the name "Hitler" to one's opponent. What a great strategy. It's also utterly despicable:

A spokesman for Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul (R) is getting heat for praising a video likening Paul’s opponent to Adolf Hitler. And he's not apologizing.

The video portraying Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson (R) as Hitler popped up on a Ron Paul message board over the weekend. A spokesman for Grayson primary opponent Rand Paul then posted a reply to the video, labeling it “Too funny!!” with a smiling emoticon.

Yeah, that Adolph. He's a regular giggle machine. If only Last Comic Standing had been popular back in the '30s and '40s, he'd have been a shoo-in.

Now get ready for the walk back:

“The video’s just funny,” Hightower said. “I don’t really think it’s funny to compare Trey Grayson to Hitler; I don’t think that’s funny.”

So it's not the merging of Grayson with Hitler that's funny. Nah, it's the actual video. Video Central. Every day videocity. General subject matter. Overall conceptitude. Wow. Hilarious.

Asked to respond to some opponents who have raised objections, Hightower said: “Some things in life, some people think they’re funny, and some people don’t think they’re funny. I’m not really one to judge that.”

Rand Paul is Ron Paul’s son. Now that's funny.

Oh, and for the record-- and I say this as one who has performed, written, and taught comedy for years-- if your audience isn't laughing, it's not funny. If it's only funny to you, it's not funny. If it's in poor taste and offends your viewers, it's not funny. And hey, Rand, get new material.

VIDEO: Michael Steele rudely dismisses woman whose mom just died of cancer

Aww, isn't it precious how Michael Steele still thinks he's able to deliver a coherent message?

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele will hit the road Thursday in part of an effort to target four potentially vulnerable House Democrats on healthcare legislation. [...]

The chairman will start off the day by visiting the district of Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.), followed by stops in the districts of Reps. Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio), Zach Space (D-Ohio) and Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Ohio).

The four were all elected in relatively Republican districts during the last two election cycles.

I hope Michael Aluminuminum can remember which talking point on Medicare to quote from this time.

I also hope one of those four targeted representatives will bring lots of negative attention to the chairman of the RNC, a Very Important Rushpublic spokesman, a leader of the Party of NOise, by asking him about this little episode:

But it's Steele's response that makes this moment both newsworthy and a terrible comment on his character. After saying that he believed in a mature, honest discussion and not in shouting, Steele said, "People are coming to these town meetings and they're like [he then shakes]." He then looked and gestured right at Ms. Duzak and said, "It makes for great TV. You'll probably make it tonight, enjoy it." He then turned his back to her, as the crowd clapped.

Think about what Steele did. He didn't only turn his back and rudely dismiss a young woman whose mother just died of cancer. He used the shameful recent behavior of the right wing town hall screamers -- his own party's base -- to try and turn the crowd against Ms. Duzak.

I used to try to watch that train wreck of a show... until it became too painful. It's interesting that Gramm-pa was such a fan that he actually has a favorite episode!
