Rand Paul spokesman praises video likening Trey Grayson to Hitler

By GottaLaff

So the answer to everything now is attaching the name "Hitler" to one's opponent. What a great strategy. It's also utterly despicable:

A spokesman for Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul (R) is getting heat for praising a video likening Paul’s opponent to Adolf Hitler. And he's not apologizing.

The video portraying Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson (R) as Hitler popped up on a Ron Paul message board over the weekend. A spokesman for Grayson primary opponent Rand Paul then posted a reply to the video, labeling it “Too funny!!” with a smiling emoticon.

Yeah, that Adolph. He's a regular giggle machine. If only Last Comic Standing had been popular back in the '30s and '40s, he'd have been a shoo-in.

Now get ready for the walk back:

The video’s just funny,” Hightower said. “I don’t really think it’s funny to compare Trey Grayson to Hitler; I don’t think that’s funny.”

So it's not the merging of Grayson with Hitler that's funny. Nah, it's the actual video. Video Central. Every day videocity. General subject matter. Overall conceptitude. Wow. Hilarious.

Asked to respond to some opponents who have raised objections, Hightower said: “Some things in life, some people think they’re funny, and some people don’t think they’re funny. I’m not really one to judge that.”

Rand Paul is Ron Paul’s son. Now that's funny.

Oh, and for the record-- and I say this as one who has performed, written, and taught comedy for years-- if your audience isn't laughing, it's not funny. If it's only funny to you, it's not funny. If it's in poor taste and offends your viewers, it's not funny. And hey, Rand, get new material.

Hannity whines that Obama's Afghanistan address "takes away time" from his show

Pot. Kettle. Ego:

Even if he's kidding, his lame attempt at humor is pitiful. Come on, Sean, the little "annointed" dig is so 2008 ago.

And darn that Commander in Chief for speaking to America about decisions that affect the entire world! How dare he stop dithering! Who does he think he is?

Seany is clearly longing for this kind of completely acceptable prime time media disruption:

BushCo's wars. Obama's headaches.

Dear GOP: Not funny

By GottaLaff

Kos grabbed the screen shot below before it was scrubbed. This Rushpublic attempt at tone deaf, racist "humor" is one more example of why their self-inflicted implosion is gaining momentum:

Reporters' hair irks The Boehner

By GottaLaff

http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/john_boehner_gi6.jpg
That Boner, he's a regular laugh riot:

As he launched into his regular refrain about the Democrats' budget, saying it "spends too much, it taxes too much, and it borrows too much", he stopped himself — trying to hold back laughter during his own opening comments.

He quickly singled out a young print reporter, telling him, "You really do need to do something with that hair of yours." As reporters laughed, he joked, "I couldn't wait any longer."

He went on to finish his opening comments, but before calling on the same reporter, he teased, "Get a brush, would ya?"

The reporter had good sense of humor about the crack from Boehner, and shot back, "I'll get a haircut if you pay for it."

Tell you what: I'll get a haircut if you let your faux-tanned skin go au naturel.

When Boehner called on the next reporter, he referred to him as "the bald guy."

Ogodheissodamnfunny. Get this guy on Letterman. Nobody can beat that sense of humor, nobody! Not even a real comedy pro like Pauly Shore.

But Boehner didn't confine his critique to male members of the Capitol press corps. When a female reporter, wearing her long hair pulled back, prefaced her question by joking that she hoped her hair was ok, Boehner couldn't resist: "You mean what's wadded up in the back of your head?"

Ohstopplease! Omystomach! I'm in pain from all that guffawing! SNL, why haven't you booked The Boner?! He's the next Carrot Top! The Daily Show shouldn't hesitate to scoop him right up, before someone else grabs him!

Some reporters chuckled, but others thought the GOP leader was being a little harsh.

Boehner continued his hair assessment, saying, "It looks so nice hanging down. It looks like you got up a little late and decided that, you know, I just wadded up the back. For those of you that don't know about me and ponytails, males get it — males get it just as bad as females."

Ogeez! No seriously! What a card! I'm barely able to contain myself! The hilarity! Wow! He's the best ever! A gen-u-ine equal opportunity buffoon! Didja see that? See how he did that?

He then apologized to the reporter, joking "you started it," and let her ask her question on the budget.

Ohahaaaahahawhawhawhahaha::deeeep breath::HAHAHAAA! ::pant, pant!:: Whew! Whoa. Where'd he find lines like that?

With Congress about to start a two week recess, Boehner blamed the long stretch of six straight weeks in Washington for his punchy mood and attempt to have some fun with reporters. "That's why I'm trying to be humorous today to my friend who needs a brush and a friend who needs some hair," Boehner said.

Nonono, please stop! Stop, I tell you, stop! I can't take much more!

As reporters walked out of the press conference, one asked Boehner's press secretary what she put in the Republican leader's coffee this morning.

Then one of them asked if it would be okay to put one just more thing to his coffee. The press secretary scowled, reminding the reporter that that would probably be a felony.

VIDEO-- Bill O'Reilly, Dennis Miller: "We're opening a theme park, Waterboarding World"

By GottaLaff

How many times have the righties jumped all over, say, Joe Biden or John Kerry, for making comments or jokes that these sanctimonious evolutionary-challenged misfits felt were out of place? Well, folks, compared to this video, their gaffes were as benign as a first grade knock-knock joke. This ranks right up (or down) there with Bush's "searching for WMD" routine.

Last night on Fox News, host Bill O’Reilly and former comedian Dennis Miller announced a new “business partnership.“We’re opening a theme park: Waterboard World,” O’Reilly said. Funnyman Miller explained how the park would help in efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
Feel free to vent in comments:

Nothing says "funny" like torture jokes. Maybe next, Bill-o the Clown and Dennis Pill(er) can crack us up with one-liners about assassination threats, racism, and foreclosures.

Peter Yarrow, co-author of "Puff the Magic Dragon", responds to "Barack the Magic Negro"

By GottaLaff

Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul, and Mary, responds to the disgusting "parody" that you've all heard about (excerpt):

I and my co-writer of "Puff," Lenny Lipton, have been eagerly awaiting an end to the mean-spiritedness, outright disrespect and bigotry that was commonplace prior to this last presidential election. What might have been wearily accepted as "the way it was" in the campaign, is now unacceptable. Obama is not a candidate. He is the President-Elect, and this song insults the office of the Presidency, the people who voted for him, as well as those who did not -- and taking a children's song and twisting it in such vulgar, mean-spirited way, is a slur to our entire country and our common agreement to move beyond racism.

It is almost unimaginable to me that Chip Saltzman who sent the CD, would seriously be considered for the top post of the Republican National Committee. Puff, himself, if asked, would certainly agree.

Peter Yarrow also just said as much on the Thom Hartmann show. Were the Repugs listening? Not likely.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Iraq withdrawal agreement

By GottaLaff

Stop me if you've heard this one before. Okay, see, there was this fraudulent war that turned into an illegal occupation. No, no it gets better. There were this guy named Obama who was against this cosmic roto rooter into our collective psyches, but he got ridiculed by this bunch of thugs we'll call BushCo and Friends. In fact, a lot of us got laughs for the same thing, by a bunch of pseudo-patriots. Are ya with me so far? Good.

Okay, so here's the set-up for the punch line. See, after five years and over 4,000 deaths, finally... finally... there was an agreement. You remember the one: between Iraq and the U.S. The one that gets us out of there by 2011, the one that stops our family members from getting their heads blown off. Yeah, yeah, that's the one.

Well, a crazy thing happened. Oh, this'll knock your socks off. What a freakin' riot. In fact, my stomach hurts already, but not from laughing, because, see, this is no joke:

Shiite legislators could barely conceal their delight” at the agreement, and noted that “they referred to the pact as the ‘withdrawal agreement.’” As proof of its determination to a firm withdrawal date, the Iraqi government even required that the U.S. “scrap the language that would have allowed the American troops to stay beyond 2011 if Iraq requested.”

Iraqi officials made it perfectly clear that they would take the withdrawal agreement seriously:

Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh: “The total withdrawal will be completed by December 31, 2011. This is not governed by circumstances on the ground.

Deputy parliament speaker Khalid al-Attiya: The “Americans have responded positively on two important amendments. The first one is the Americans should withdraw from cities and suburbs on June 30, 2009, and the second one is that Americans should leave Iraq in 2011.‘”

What a set-up, huh? Abbott couldn't have set up Costello any better. Trouble is, there's no payoff. No punch line. The joke's on us.

The Pentagon, however, seems to view things differently. Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen said today that he still supports “conditions-based” withdrawal only, and indicated that the agreement could always change long before 2011.

You really killed 'em with that one, Mullen.

Literally.

Barone: Media trashed Palin because ‘she did not abort her Down syndrome baby.’

By GottaLaff

baroneweb.jpg

Let's review: Being pro-choice is not being pro-death, pro-abortion, or pro-stupid. You want pro-stupid? Here's your pro-stupid:
Speaking before a roomful of academics in Chicago yesterday, U.S. News and World Report’s Michael Barone claimed that “the liberal media attacked” Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) during the presidential campaign because “she did not abort her Down syndrome baby.” “They wanted her to kill that child. … I’m talking about my media colleagues with whom I’ve worked for 35 years,” Barone said. Politico reports that “[a]bout 500 people were in the room, and some walked out.” Barone did not dispute his remarks, saying he “was attempting to be humorous and, as many in public do, went over the line.
I missed the "humor". It went, woooooo!, right over my head. Imagine that. Me. A comedy writer, being too dense to get the joke.

For the record: Nobody in my world faulted Palin for choosing--choosing-- to keep her baby.

Now, schlepping it around the campaign trail as if he were a rag doll prop was a little disconcerting. But choosing to bring Trig into the world was absolutely fine with my liberal gang-o'-pro-choicers.
