Sarah Palin: Glenn Beck's "chalkboard technique changing our country"

Babbles McPreScreen has a few pre-existing conditions, only hers have nothing to do with her health. Well, maybe her mental health.
No, this is all about Bush envy and controlling the media. Bendy straws were a prerequisite for he university keynote screeching, and pre-screening questions was a must for her latest little Q and A fest.
She has clearly run out of hands to write on, realizes that risky, off the cuff word salad won't cut it, and is now doing her level best to fill Boy Georgie's teensy weensy inept little media-restricting shoes.
Welcome to liberal-leaning Eugene, Oregon, Babbles:
"It's the belief that the government who governs least governs best," she said.
That should win 'em right over. Try again. This time be more convincing:
“I eat granola,” Palin said. “I just happen to shoot and catch my organic food before I eat it.”
“Here I am in Track Town USA and my kid’s name is Track. How Eugene hippie can that be?” she added.
Thud.
Then she dissed "Obamacare." Way to win a more progressive crowd over, Ace. Okay, there's still hope. Maybe she could make it up to them by throwing them an environment bone:
She also called for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and addressed head-on environmentalists against her plan. She argued America has more stringent environmental restrictions than many of the foreign governments we currently rely on for oil.
“So environmentalists are kind of hypocritical on this one,” she said. “I don’t know how environmentalists can sleep at night.”
Ooooo, wrong answer.
There's still time for her to make it up to them, though. I'm sure Babbles will toss them a bone or two. Who would be so stupid and tone deaf that they would refuse to dish up one measly little overture?
Palin accused the media of being inextricably linked to the political left.
“Sometimes they are kind of one in the same,” she said. “We call them the 'lame-stream' media lately.”
See, that's not what I meant. Okay, one more shot. Try again, Babbles. Offer that paying crowd of yours a crumb or two.
She said the media has been unfair to the tea party movement, going so far as to say they make up lies about tea party supporters.
No, no! You're not getting this at all!
“The left, well, they had to grab hold of something to discredit,” she said. “The press then just started making things up. I’ve had to deal with that for quite some time now.”
Deep breath.
She must have one redeeming quality, just one. Maybe she'll have a moment of spontaneity during which we'll discover something good and kind and reasonable and....
During a question and answer session, Eugene City Councilwoman Jennifer Solomon read a pre-screened question from the audience about her role at Fox News. Palin said she was proud to be a part of Fox News for being “fair and balanced.”
Never mind.
She also praised Fox host Glenn Beck and said with “his chalkboard technique he’s changing our country."
And if all that isn't bad enough, journalists were not allowed to use cameras or any other kind of recording device. They were only allowed to watch her speak [sic] on a live video feed... from another room.
One-- count 'em, one-- photo--taken by a hired photographer-- was given out. One.
All this and less could be had for $250 a pop. Yep, 800 people paid that much. And some of them had to settle for a video feed from a separate room at... $100. Yes, they paid a hundred bucks to watch her on TV.
To add insult to injury, 70 people shelled out a thousand smackeroos for a photo op with her. But, hey, that included a copy of her book.
Glenn Beck would be proud.

Staffers Knew of John Edwards Affair

Marc Ambinder quotes from John Heilemann's and Mark Halperin's book Game Change, the same book that called out O'Palin for her failure to remember Joe O'Biden's last O'name.
My mind keeps drifting back to Chris Kofinis (who I enjoy a lot when he's on Countdown, et al.) and what he says about his former boss when he's not on air:
Not only, it turns out, did many senior Edwards staffer suspect that John was having an affair, several confronted John Edwards about it, and came away believing the rumors. At least three campaign aides resigned because of their knowledge of the affair well before the national media picked up on those early National Enquirer stories." The authors describe a moment where Elizabeth, in a such a state of fury, deliberately tears her blouse in the parking lot of a Raleigh airport terminal, 'exposing herself. 'Look at me,' she wailed at John and then staggered, nearly falling to the ground.' (That's page 142.)
I can't begin to imagine what Elizabeth and the kids went through... nor what the Democratic party would have gone through had Edwards won the primary. "Disgusting cad" doesn't begin to describe him.
And what happens to sleazy politicians like him who get busted after deceiving voters, cheating on their wives, and hurting their children? Their legacies are defined by scandal and the pain they've caused. Via New York magazine:

Judge Dismisses Orly Taitz Birther Suit

This time at bat, she continued to insist that President Obama show documentation to prove he was born in the U.S. Seriously. Still. If he didn't, she wanted the government shut down and an election held.

A U.S. District Court judge has dismissed one of Orly Taitz's birther lawsuits, saying it would be unconstitutional for the courts to "effectively overthrow a sitting president."

Judge David O. Carter:
"Plaintiffs have attacked the judiciary, including every prior court that has dismissed their claim, as unpatriotic and even treasonous for refusing to grant their requests and for adhering to the terms of the Constitution which set forth its jurisdiction," Carter wrote. "Respecting the constitutional role and jurisdiction of this Court is not unpatriotic."

Orly Taitz Sanctioned for $20,000

Counsel Orly Taitz is hereby ordered to pay $20,000.00 to the United States, through the Middle District of Georgia Clerk’s Office, within thirty days of the date of this Order as a sanction for her misconduct in violation of Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
Here are some excerpts from the official document that shows how willful and negligent Mental Taitz was. Oh, and for the record, this judge was appointed by Boy Georgie W:
The Court finds that counsel’s conduct was willful and not merely negligent. It demonstrates bad faith on her part. As an attorney, she is deemed to have known better. She owed a duty to follow the rules and to respect the Court. Counsel’s pattern of conduct conclusively establishes that she did not mistakenly violate a provision of law. She knowingly violated Rule 11. Her response to the Court’s show cause order is breathtaking in its arrogance and borders on delusional. She expresses no contrition or regret regarding her misconduct. To the contrary, she continues her baseless attacks on the Court.
Ouch! Then again, I wonder if any of that will even penetrate Taitzless' thick skull.
I hear the real estate biz is about to pick up. Taitzless should really think about going back to her day job.Counsel’s frivolous and sanctionable conduct wasted the Defendants’ time and valuable judicial resources that could have been devoted to legitimate cases pending with the Court. [...] The Clerk’s Office was burdened by Ms. Taitz’s inability to follow the Court’s rules regarding pro hac vice admission and the Court’s rules for electronic filing. On five separate occasions in a short period, the Clerk’s Office personnel error-noticed counsel for her failure to follow simple rules. At the hearing, counsel failed to make coherent legal arguments but instead wasted the Court’s time with press conference sound bites and speeches.

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) Against Public Option

Grumble grumble, gnashing teeth, sick of this already, pounding head on wall:
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND), one of six on the Senate Finannce Committee negotiating a bipartisan health care bill, "told an audience of 100 that he would not vote for a government-run health care program," the Jamestown Sun reports.
Instead, Conrad presented his "cooperative health care proposal" which "would offer a non-profit insurance option to compete with private health care. It would not be government run, he said."
TPM correctly notes that there is "still a question of whether he'd support a filibuster of a health care bill with a public option."

Sarah Palin still thinks she has the power to appoint

Did you get it? It’s in the second paragraph of her answer; “then I would get to appoint a Republican.” Wha…? Wh-wha…? [...]GIZZI: You made it clear in our interviews earlier this year that you were not close to fellow Republicans Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young from your state, both of whom you said had a different vision of Alaska’s dealings with the federal government than you did. Were you pleased with the election of Democrat Mark Begich who defeated Stevens and with the re-election of Rep. Young?
PALIN: I met yesterday with Sen.-elect Begich to see that we are on the same page as we move forward as he starts his new job representing Alaska.
I thought that Sen. Stevens was going to be re-elected, and it was so close, and that if he were to step aside because he was convicted [on corruption charges], then I would get to appoint a Republican. So I was kind of surprised at the outcome there.
If you didn’t get it, I’ll remind you of the background. And keep in mind while I recount, that Sarah Palin was Frank Murkowski’s immediate successor. She ran for Lt. Governor in 2002 when all this started. She was not living in the woods, subsistence hunting, and cut off from civilization. [...]
[Frank] Murkowski decided that he was going to run for governor. So he ran, and he won. Now came the question of who would succeed Frank in his Senate seat. [...] Frank chose his daughter, Lisa Murkowski to fill his seat. [...] Republicans and Democrats alike across the state were seeing red. It was a huge, big, fat, major deal. [...]
And to make a very long story short, the issue made it to the ballot. Should Alaskans continue to allow Senators to appoint their replacements, thereby assuring the continuity of representation in the Senate? Or should voters hold a special election, foregoing the continuity, in favor of keeping control over who actually gets the seat.
The special election won hands down. The governor was stripped of the power of appointment. [...] [A]nd everybody who wasn’t living in a cave knew it.
Apparently Sarah Palin was living in a cave, because she just told the planet how bummed she was that Ted Stevens didn’t win, and then get convicted, so she could appoint a Republican to his seat.
Shortly after Palin’s Human Events interview was released, Shannyn Moore talked to Senator Elect Mark Begich on Air America. She asked him what he thought of her misperception, and complete lack of understanding about what she does and does not have the power to do.
King of the diplomatic understatement, Begich said he was “a little surprised” when he read it. He went on to say, “You and I both know, as do thousands of people who voted. I don’t know what that all meant. It was a little odd.”
I’ll tell you what it all meant. It meant that Sarah Palin has not been paying attention to some incredibly basic aspects of Alaska government, and hasn’t been since at least 2002 when Murkowski the Younger was appointed to the Senate. She also wasn’t paying attention in 2004, when the law was changed. She also wasn’t paying attention in 2008 when every national news media was asking whether she had the power to appoint, and the answer was no.
In addition, to anyone out there who still insists on equating Grandma Also's "experience" with Obama's, this should prove once and for all that it's not merely one's experience, but how one applies it, that matters. That and a minimum of judgment. And logic. And awareness. And intelligence. And intellectual honesty. And ability. And not being an utter ditz with the attention span of a gnat.

In a Pew survey released today, “just 11% said Bush will be remembered as an outstanding or above average president,” which is “by far the lowest positive end-of-term rating for any of the past four presidents.” Sixty-four percent of respondents said that the Bush administration “will be remembered more for its failures than its accomplishments.”
The usual question: Who in the world are the myopic loons who give him any kind of approval except the "dis-" kind??

Barone: Media trashed Palin because ‘she did not abort her Down syndrome baby.’

Speaking before a roomful of academics in Chicago yesterday, U.S. News and World Report’s Michael Barone claimed that “the liberal media attacked” Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) during the presidential campaign because “she did not abort her Down syndrome baby.” “They wanted her to kill that child. … I’m talking about my media colleagues with whom I’ve worked for 35 years,” Barone said. Politico reports that “[a]bout 500 people were in the room, and some walked out.” Barone did not dispute his remarks, saying he “was attempting to be humorous and, as many in public do, went over the line.”I missed the "humor". It went, woooooo!, right over my head. Imagine that. Me. A comedy writer, being too dense to get the joke.
For the record: Nobody in my world faulted Palin for choosing--choosing-- to keep her baby.
Now, schlepping it around the campaign trail as if he were a rag doll prop was a little disconcerting. But choosing to bring Trig into the world was absolutely fine with my liberal gang-o'-pro-choicers.

Historians: Bush presidency 'incompetent' and 'unlucky'
I may not be a historian, but I approve this message.
(CNN) — With record low approval ratings and intense criticism for his handling of the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina and the economy, the word most used to label George W. Bush's presidency will be "incompetent," historians say.
"Right now there is not a lot of good will among historians. Most see him as a combination of many negative factors," said Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.
"He is seen as incompetent in terms of how he handled domestic and foreign policy. He is seen as pushing for an agenda to the right of the nation and doing so through executive power that ignored the popular will," he added.

The campaign of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said the Alaska governor was unaware of a visit by Russian energy officials to Anchorage on Monday.Eight high-level officials from Gazprom, Russia’s state-controlled energy conglomerate, traveled to Anchorage earlier this week to meet with the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the chief executive of ConocoPhillips to discuss energy projects and the possibility of expanding into new markets.
[...] Palin raised eyebrows last month in an interview by saying that Putin “rears his head” by dispatching Russian jets into Alaska’s airspace.
Palin has argued that her state’s proximity to Russia, as well as trade missions between Alaska and Russia, have helped give her the foreign policy experience necessary to be Vice President. But the campaign said the governor did not know that the Gazprom delegation was meeting with the commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, who is a Palin appointee.
This just gets more embarrassing by the minute. We could find better veep material in a petting zoo.
