Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, one of 47 world leaders gathering for the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C., appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to relay his country’s concerns ahead of the summit.

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sealed an agreement on a landmark nuclear arms reduction treaty during a phone call on Friday, the White House said.UPDATE- Video here.

"This landmark agreement advances the security of both nations, and reaffirms American and Russian leadership on behalf of nuclear security and global non-proliferation," the White House said in a statement.
After months of deadlock, a deal on a replacement for the Cold War-era START treaty marked Obama's most concrete foreign policy achievement since taking office and could also boost his effort to "reset" relations with Moscow.

Referring to the long history of Russia-U.S. trade stretching back more than two centuries, Obama told an audience of business people in Moscow:
"Along the way, you gave us a pretty good deal on Alaska. Thank you."
Czar Alexander II's sale of Alaska to the United States in 1867 for $7.2 million in gold, around 1.9 cents per acre, was regarded by Russians as a national disgrace -- particularly once it became clear that the province was rich in oil.
Moscow was short of cash at the time.

Just hours before a scheduled meeting here with Russia's leader, President Bush issued a provocative statement hailing the fifth anniversary of the so-called "Rose Revolution" in the former Russian province of Georgia.*Good bye and good riddanceBush called the Georgian revolution one of the "most inspiring chapters in the history of freedom" and reiterated U.S. support for Georgia's "territorial integrity" in the wake of Russia's military invasion earlier this year.
"Thirsting for liberty and armed only with roses in hand, citizens throughout Georgia peacefully staked claim to their God-given right of liberty," Bush said in the statement, referring to a wave of massive anti-government protests in 2003. "These demonstrations proved once again, that when given a choice, people choose to live in freedom." [...]
The remarks come at a time of heightened tension between Washington and Moscow in the wake of Russia's August invasion of Georgia in a dispute over the breakaway provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
