The End of an Error: Navy Restores Access to Fox Web Site

Talk about an emotional roller coaster, I just got finished posting ClusterFox's first breaking news alert, and now, minutes later, I got this one:

Members of the U.S. Navy were denied access to FoxNews.com for hours on Friday before service was finally restored shortly before noon ET, the Navy confirmed.

Cdr. Danny Hernandez, a Navy spokesman, said he was unable to offer an exact reason why access to Fox News' Web site had been blocked, but he said it most definitely was a technical issue.

"This was not a policy issue," Hernandez said.

Fox News received e-mails from Navy personnel around the world on Friday complaining that they could not gain access to the Web site. They said they were able to view numerous other news Web sites.
When they tried to access FoxNews.com, the following message appeared: "Access to this site has been denied in accordance with Navy policy to safeguard the security posture and/or to maintain the operational integrity of the NMCI [Navy Marine Corps Internet]."

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

And it should have been a policy issue. A big one. After all, the Navy's operational integrity is at stake.

Man Receives Historic Haircut After Inauguration

DENVER -- A Denver man who says he is a diehard Democrat walked into a salon on South Broadway Tuesday and asked for a haircut.

It was his first since President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry began campaigning against each other in 2004.

Shepherd said he vowed back then to keep his hair until there was a change in the White House.

He kept his vow.

"To love, hope and Barack Obama," Shepherd said while hoisting a glass of champagne. "This is for change and for my Mom."

Historians: Bush presidency 'incompetent' and 'unlucky'

I may not be a historian, but I approve this message.

(CNN) — With record low approval ratings and intense criticism for his handling of the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina and the economy, the word most used to label George W. Bush's presidency will be "incompetent," historians say.

"Right now there is not a lot of good will among historians. Most see him as a combination of many negative factors," said Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.

"He is seen as incompetent in terms of how he handled domestic and foreign policy. He is seen as pushing for an agenda to the right of the nation and doing so through executive power that ignored the popular will," he added.
