Attention ClusterFox: Is South Carolina a Muslim state?!

By GottaLaff

Earlier, Paddy posted a ClusterFox video in which there was much fretting and finger-pointing about our obviously Muslim president trying to sneak some ultra super duper secret brainwashing propaganda into the Nuclear Security Summit logo.

But oops, our pal Joeyess stumbled upon some extra special wholesome newsy goodness: the State Flag of South Carolina:

Quote of the Day

Yeah yeah, scary socialists, we know. Via Taegan-

"The way that it was presented as some kind of marketing ploy, I don't like that, but I think there's real substance here. I mean you don't have to put a name on it, but I think it's gone far beyond anything that's liberal."

-- Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), in an interview with the St. Petersburg Times, defending the recently leaked RNC fundraising presentation that claimed President Obama was taking the country towards socialism.

Here's the press release announcing Rawl's intentions:

Rawl To Announce Campaign for US Senate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- 3/3/2010- 9:51 AM

Vic Rawl, former State Legislator, Judge, Prosecutor and current member of Charleston County Council will open his campaign to represent South Carolina in the United States Senate with a day long tour from the coast to the mountains on Monday, March 8.

Rawl will begin the tour at 10 am in front of the Lonnie Hamilton County Services Building 4045 Bridge View Dr, in North Charleston, SC. In case of rain, the announcement will be made inside the building’s rotunda.

The Campaign will move to Columbia, SC for a 1 pm press conference at SC Democratic Party Headquarters at 1529 Hampton St.

The Tour will conclude with appearances at both the Spartanburg and Greenville County Democratic Party Conventions that evening between 6 and 8 pm.

The Campaign’s online presence will activate that morning with a Website, Twitter, and Facebook presence.

The campaign tour can be reached on cell phone that day at (843) 343-9486. Updates will be posted on Twitter at http://twitter.com/Rawl_for_Se... throughout the day with links to internet and video content.

There's a Facebook page supporting him here.

If he receives the Democratic nomination, Rawl will stand against Jim "Waterloo" DeMint in the November 2010 general election for the privilege of representing the State of South Carolina in the US Senate.

Maybe he'll do something about all those subversives. Or at least raise the overthrow-the-government fee to $10?

Attention Tea Partiers: $5 Fee to Overthrow the Government

By GottaLaff

(click on image to enlarge; via)

Hey subversives! Tired of the same ol', same ol' government? Don't think the Tea Tantrumers are doing enough? Well folks, you're in luck! For a measly five-- count 'em, five-- smackeroos, you can overthrow the bums!

"Since 1951, South Carolina has had a law on its books requiring anyone looking to overthrow the government to, well, register with the government," CBS News reports.

If only these people had known! And these.

All ya gotta do is list the "name of subversive organization" and the name and address of its "chief agent." Quick. Simple. Easy as 1-2-bang!

That's right, ladies and gents, just answer this question: "Do you or your organization directly or indirectly advocate, advise, teach or practice the duty or necessity of controlling, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States, the state of South Carolina or any political division thereof?"... and just like that, you're in!

Yes, if you act now, and come up with five American dollars-- that's right, using the very currency of those you want to kick out-- you too can topple the government of the U. S. of A.!

Tell your friends! And thank you, South Carolina!

South Carolina Lawmaker Seeks to Ban U.S. Currency

By GottaLaff

http://www.collectibleusgoldcoins.com/splash_commem_coin_stack.png

Methinks things are getting a little out of hand in South Carolina:
A bill introduced in the South Carolina legislature would make disallow U.S. currency as legal tender in the state, reports the Palmetto Scoop.

The bill introduced by State Rep. Mike Pitts (R) would ban what he calls "the unconstitutional substitution of Federal Reserve Notes for silver and gold coin" in South Carolina.

"If the bill were to become law, South Carolina would no longer accept or use anything other than silver and gold coins as a form of payment for any debt, meaning paper money would be out in the Palmetto State."

Leave it to a Rushpublic to require us to carry gold coins. Forgetting for a moment the utter lunacy of this idea, think about just the concept of schlepping around a bunch of weighty currency.

Who knew South Carolina Rushpublics were into heavy metal?

AUDIO: South Carolina Lt. Governor compares poor people to stray animals

By GottaLaff

From the Dep't. of What? What'd I say?

"My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better."

-- South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer (R), quoted by the Greenville News, comparing poor people to stray animals.
Bauer the R from SC should be curtailed. Apparently he doesn't know any better either. Then again, he may just be a stray.

Let's recap: People who eat less than others don't "breed". So what does this genius make of Tori Spelling or Nicole Richie?

See the logic? Wow. No. Neither do I.

Who knew dieting and starvation were forms of birth control? Someone tell Aetna. They'll put eating on their list of pre-existing conditions.

Via Think Progress, we get more:
"You show me the school that has the highest free and reduced lunch, and I’ll show you the worst test scores, folks. It’s there, period." [...]

Bauer later insisted that he “wasn’t saying people on government assistance ‘were animals or anything else.’” (HT: Jamie Sanderson)
How do people like this get to hold office?

Charleston, S. Carolina GOP Censures Lindsey Graham for working with Democrats

By GottaLaff

http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/Lindsey-Graham.jpg

Look what's happening in Charleston County! They condemn their Congress members for reaching across the aisle. If this is how badly the Rushpublic party is devolving, if this is how they treat their own, if this is the disdain they show for independence, they are doomed:
The Charleston County, S.C., Republican Party has formally censured Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) over his efforts to work with Democrats and other GOP moderates on a host of hot-button issues, the Charleston Post and Courier reported Wednesday.
Now, I'm no fan of Lindsey's taste in friends (Traitor Joe Lieberman and John McCain come to mind) or policies, but I am a fan of sanity.

As the article states, Lindsey worked with Traitor Joe and John Kerry on climate change legislation, as well as participating in bipartisan negotiations on immigration reform. Boy howdy, if anything deserves a slap on the hand, it's that. What nerve!
Graham has also angered conservative activists for his criticism of “tea party” protesters and others who have sought to impose a strict ideological litmus test on Republican lawmakers.
But... but... the headline says that the GOP censured him. What could that possibly have to do with the Tea Tanrumers?
The county GOP is closely connected to the tea party movement [...]

Rep Joe "You Lie" Wilson's Dem opponent takes in over $100k overnight

Now this made it worth getting out of bed this am.

Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-SC) outburst of "You lie!" against President Obama has been good for at least one person: Rob Miller, a Marine and Iraq War veteran who ran unsuccessfully against Wilson in 2008, and is running again for 2010 -- and who has now brought in a lot of money.

Jessica Santillo, the Southern regional press secretary for the DCCC, confirms to us that Miller has raised over $100,000.

Half of South Carolina Wants Sanford to Quit

If he didn't keep on reminding people that he was still there with all these stupid pressers for no reason, he'd be in a much better situation. Via Taegan.

Half of South Carolina voters want Gov. Mark Sanford (R) to resign, according to a new InsiderAdvantage poll.

The survey shows that 49.5% of voters say it is time for Sanford to go, while 36.6% said the embattled governor should remain in office.

"Sanford is actually in a weaker position now than he was in the same poll shortly after he admitted in June to an affair with an Argentine woman, when 49.8% of South Carolinians thought the governor should stay, while 41.4% said he should resign."

South Carolina GOP Weighs Sanford Impeachment

Do it already, put the man out of his and our misery. Via Taegan.

South Carolina Republicans will discuss whether to impeach Gov. Mark Sanford (R) when they meet this weekend, the Columbia State reports.

"Lawmakers, once reluctant to discuss removing Sanford, will weigh what it would take to force the Republican governor out and how the process would work."

"Sanford has been under fire since secretly leaving the country for five days in June to meet his lover and later admitting an extramarital affair with the Argentine woman. Since then, Sanford has been under fire for flying in expensive business-class seats and his use of state and private planes. All could violate state law or ethics rules."

Jenny Sanford and children moving out of governor's mansion

Wow, didn't see this coming. /snark

WASHINGTON (CNN) – South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford and her four boys are moving out of the governor's mansion in Columbia and back to their home in Charleston for the upcoming school year.

The wife of South Carolina governor Mark Sanford announced the news in a statement e-mailed to reporters on Friday, days after the family returned from a two-week vacation to an undisclosed location in Europe.

Sanford book deal falls through

Bet if he pitched a bodice rippin' romance novel he just might get that contract back...

(CNN) – Gov. Mark Sanford and his publisher have parted ways.

"Sentinel has agreed to release Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina from his contract to write a book about fiscal conservatism, which was to be called WITHIN OUR MEANS and was scheduled for publication in March 2010," said Adrian Zackheim, president and publisher of Sentinel, in a statement released Thursday. "This is a mutual decision. We wish Governor Sanford the best."

Prior to revelations of an extramarital affair that effectively brought an end to his political career, the South Carolina governor had been preparing to publish a book outlining his policy beliefs.

Gov Sanford Shed Security Detail 39 Times This Year

Oh oh. Not good. Who would have thunk this guy was such a philanderer?

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) left the Governor's Mansion "without a security escort, 38 times in 2008. In the first six months of this year, he left the mansion without security, 39 times," according to The State.

"The frequency with which the governor shed his security detail has fallen under scrutiny after his secret trip earlier this month to Argentina."

A New Republican Leader?

Oh yeah, I'm really seeing this. Especially after the snotty (aka gay insinuate much?) way the reliable right wing WSJ treated Charlie Crist today. Via Taegan, you can see the clip here.

Jonathan Martin and Chris Cilliza rave about "an inspired performance" on Meet the Press by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) yesterday.

"Why? Because unlike other Republicans who seem to be so fixated on scoring political points on President Obama, Graham was willing to point out where his own party had strayed while also making a reasonable argument for GOP ideals...

"Does one solid performance on a Sunday show mean that Graham is the new 'it' guy for the GOP? No. But the notoriously private Graham seemed to signal on Sunday that he is ready to take more of a leadership role."
