Fox tweets about President Obama's "accent" during eulogy for miners

By GottaLaff

ClusterFox just keeps topping itself in its efforts to remain the most tasteless, repulsive organization in the world:

"Lovely speech, but what's going on with President Obama's accent in this video?"

1. He's giving a eulogy. Way to honor the dead, ClusterFox.

2. Accent?

3. "Lovely" tweet, but what's going on with ClusterFox... period?

VIDEO: President Obama Orders Review of Mine Safety

Westboro Church "Protesters" Heading To West Virginia Mine Disaster

Far be it for me to advocate violence, but somehow I think the Westboro idjits might have a few problems if they follow up on this...

MONTCOAL W.V. — Protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to the Upper Big Branch mine Thursday morning to convey the message that the explosion there that left 25 miners dead was a result of e-mail messages allegedly sent from West Virginia threatening the Church and its publisher, according to a statement from the Church.

The church, which is led by Fred Phelps, has attracted attention in recent years by showing up at funerals for soldiers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. At those funerals they carry signs that say that God hates homosexuality and that the death of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan is God’s way of punishing the United States for its tolerance of it.

(snip)

The statement said the church had received threats about a trip to West Virginia and Virginia scheduled to begin Thursday.

“So God reached down and smacked one of those mines, killing 25 (and likely four more are dead),” it said. “Now you moan and wallow in self-pity, and pour over the details of the dead rebels’ lives, pretending they’re heroes.”

VIDEO: West Virginia Vote Flipping Caught on Tape

By GottaLaff

Video the Vote went to Jackson County, WV, in response to numerous reports of machine vote flipping. The local county clerk showed us the machines in question, but the demonstration left us with serious questions, as the machine continued to malfunction even after it was calibrated.

Time/CNN Poll: Obama Leads in Key Red States

Man I love David Shuster even if he is hard on our side sometimes. He just got into a speaking loudly match with a McCain spokesman that was too much fun. "Sez who?" LOL.

The latest Time/CNN poll shows Obama leading in four of five battleground states that went to President Bush four years ago.

Nevada: Obama 51%, McCain 46%

North Carolina: Obama 51%, McCain 47%

Ohio: Obama 50%, McCain 46%

Virginia: Obama 54%, McCain 44%

West Virginia: McCain 53%, Obama 44%

Key finding: "The polls also suggest that the McCain campaign's recent attempts to link the Democratic nominee to former domestic terrorist William Ayers and the liberal organizing group ACORN (which the GOP accuses of perpetrating voter fraud) are not resonating with most voters."

West Virginia votes being flipped from Democratic to Republican

By GottaLaff

We've had a great time with the Powell endorsement, but... Back to reality. Here's the one sentence I didn't want to read: "It's already stolen." In six cases, Democratic votes have been flipped to GOP:
Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

Maybe the machines are set to coincide with Gramm-pa McCain's own flip-flops.

In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections. Both county clerks said the problem is isolated.

They also blamed voters for not being more careful.

What did the voters do? Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood said that some voters might not realize that touch-screen voting machines may take a few seconds to record their choices. If they hit the screen a second time, it cancels their vote. But how does that explain a switch?

Shelba Ketchum, a 69-year-old nurse retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital, described what happened Friday at the Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield.

"I pushed buttons and they all came up Republican," she said. "I hit Obama and it switched to McCain. I am really concerned about that. If McCain wins, there was something wrong with the machines.

"I asked them for a printout of my votes," Ketchum said. "But they said it was in the machine and I could not get it. I did not feel right when I left the courthouse. My son felt the same way.

She went on to say that nobody at the polling place knew how to fix it.

She said she caught the mistake, called over a worker in the county clerk's office and was able to correct her vote. But she worries other voters may not catch such a mistake. [...]

Virginia Matheney, one of those voters, said Friday, "When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain."

Retired factory worker Calvin Thomas of Ripley said he experienced the same problem.

"When I pushed Obama, it jumped to McCain. When I went down to governor's office and punched [Gov. Joe] Manchin, it went to the other dude.

"After I finished, my daughter voted. When she pushed Obama, it went to McCain. It happened to her the same way it happened to me," Thomas said. [...]

Wood offered this advice to voters: "The best way to solve this whole problem is that before you leave the voting booth, make sure on the review screen that everybody you want to vote for is checked."

Somehow I doubt that it would make a difference. "It's already stolen."

Chuck Todd: "Something's happening in West Virginia"

By GottaLaff

GObama!

Three weeks until Election Day, Obama now holds a more than 100-vote lead in NBC's latest electoral map. He's ahead of McCain 264-163, with 111 votes in the Toss-up column. Last week, Obama was up 264-174. Our changes: We moved Missouri from Lean McCain to Toss-up; Oregon and Washington from Lean Obama to Likely Obama; and West Virginia from Likely McCain to Lean McCain. Something's happening in West Virginia -- yes, West Virginia -- because of the economic angst. [...] By the way, political analyst Charlie Cook is moving West Virginia all the way to Toss-up. If that state is on the move, could Arkansas be far behind?

Likely Obama: CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, ME, MD, MA, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA (175 electoral votes)
Lean Obama: IA, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NM, PA, WI (89 votes)
Toss-up: CO, FL, IN, MO, NV, NC, OH, VA (111 votes)
Lean McCain: MT, WV (8 votes)
Likely McCain: AL, AK, AZ, AR, GA, ID, KS, KY, LA, MS, NE, ND, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WY (155 votes)

McCain Camp Sending Palin To West Virginia

Savor the headline. They are taking their biggest asset and sending it to West the f'ng Virginia! Wheee!

Palin has scheduled a bus tour through a state that until, roughly, now, everyone had assumed was safely McCain's.

West Virginia Democrats rejected Obama for "cultural" reasons in the primary, and it was a place where reporters gathered a lot of string on his race problem.

Poll-itics: Obama leads in West Virginia

By GottaLaff

UPDATE, from 538:

That's what American Research Group says; in fact, it gives Obama a rather large, 8-point lead in the Mountaineer State. I'd have to say that I'm very, very skeptical of this one until I see it confirmed by another polling agency; this is exactly the sort of quirky result that ARG is (in)famous for.

West Virginia miners for Obama defy NRA

By GottaLaff

Via Huffington Post:

Coal production at a mine in Monongalia County came to a halt today when every union miner stayed home, as part of a political protest. [...]

More than 440 workers who are members of the United Mine Workers of America took what's called a Memorial Day instead of going to work.

Union officials say they took the day to protest after a film crew from the National Rifle Assocation showed up at the Consol mine last week to interview union workers.

They say the crew tried to get union coal miners to speak out against Barack Obama.

This makes so many strong statements on so many levels. Um, IWRC* Palin? Who really represents "Joe six-pack"?

And anyone who stands up to the NRA's pressure demonstrates more integrity and backbone than some coercive bully trying to put out propaganda.

Newsflash: Cheney knows how to apologize!

By GottaLaff

Will wonders never cease, and by that I'm not referring to the apology, but to the original statement:

Vice President Dick Cheney apologized Monday for what his spokeswoman called "an inappropriate attempt at humor" that implied that inbreeding is common among West Virginians, a remark that elicited outrage from the state's senior senator.

Asked during a question-and-answer session at the National Press Club about the fact that a search of his family tree found he is a distant relative of Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential front-runner, Cheney said the two politicians were unlikely to hold a family reunion.

He said that the Cheney line on his father's side of the family dates to 1630's, and a Cheney family line on his mother's side dates to the 1650's.

"So, I had Cheneys on both sides of the family — and we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney cracked. After pausing for laughter from the crowd, Cheney added, "You can say those things when you're not running for re-election."

Afterward, West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd lashed out at Cheney for the "insult to all Americans." In a written statement, Byrd declared that Cheney showed "contempt and astounding ignorance toward his own countrymen" with the comments.

Get well soon, Senator Byrd. We need more like you to put the Nation of Dick in his place. And by putting him in his place, I mean in jail.

By GottaLaff

According to Chris Matthews just now on MSNBC, Hillary's West Virginia primary victory speech is being billed as "the greatest speech in the history of the universe".

What in the world could she possibly say?

Your turn.
