New RNC site: Obama v. Constitution, including ominous music!

By GottaLaff

You simply must link over to this ridiculous site just to hear the oooommminnous music:

If you run your mouse over the amendment in question it indicates an Obama judicial nominee and a decision that allegedly supports the claim [...]

“Please help the Republican Party stop President Obama’s judicial nominees from rewriting the Constitution. Donate today!” the site says, calling for contributions of up to $1,000.

And that's what it's really all about: Donations.

Gay student & developmentally disabled sent to fake prom

By GottaLaff

So many words come to mind after reading this: Cowards. Discrimination. Hate. Ignorance. Pain. Shame. Wrong. Segregation. Tears. Reprehensible. Deception. Sneaky. Bullies. And several others that are unprintable....

To avoid Constance McMillen bringing a female date to her prom, the teen was sent to a "fake prom" while the rest of her class partied at a secret location at an event organized by parents.

What must this be doing to Constance? I can't even imagine, even though I can actually relate somewhat, because I went through a lot of bullying when I was a teeny, skinny, shy teen. But she seems to be one strong kid, stronger than most:

McMillen tells The Advocate that a parent-organized prom happened behind her back — she and her date were sent to a Friday night event at a country club in Fulton, Miss., that attracted only five other students. Her school principal and teachers served as chaperones, but clearly there wasn't much to keep an eye on.

This next part will add to your current nausea:

Two students with learning difficulties were among the seven people at the country club event, McMillen recalls.

I work with special ed kids all the time. They are wonderful, sweet, and do nobody any harm. These are people, with feelings, who are being treated as if they have none, who are being looked on as less important, as something so offensive, so contemptible, that they have to be hidden away.

I can't imagine how "branded" these seven students must feel, and what an indelible imprint this has made, regardless of how courageous they may seem to us, or how big her smile is in that photo (go read the whole piece; Constance is an amazing, positive teen).

They hurt.

And I hurt for them.

Oil industry photoshopped pamphlet photo, darkened white people

By GottaLaff

The before is here.

Here's the "after":

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/images/americas-oil-and-gas.jpg

See how racially diverse they are? See what a Big Tent Big Oil has? They're as inclusive as all get out!

Too bad they forgot to darken the African American man's hand (he's on the left, the one with the darkened face and the Caucasian hand; yes, that's him).

Oh, and looky there!
Go look at the stock photo again. The two men who are now Asian and black are the same man in the photo twice. Even the stock photo is doctored.
D'oh!

Boy, their faces must be red now! Or black. Or Asian...

College Student Questioning Obama at Town Hall Was Republican Staffer: The Sequel

By GottaLaff

Here are a few extra special items of interest on Zach Lahn, that snappy young Rushpublic who I wrote about here, the very same one who challenged President Obama to an "Oxford style debate" at the Colorado town hall meeting.

First, a screen grab of his Twitter page, now "privatized" (how apt). Please note the web page link... to the Heritage Foundation (click on images to enlarge):

Here is a screen grab of a few of his Tweets. Why, there are even a couple about the Big Town Hall Do he attended!

What a scamp.

And finally, go here. Find his name in Comments, and observe how clever and knowledgeable he thinks he is.

Republican Senator's Aide Gets Press For "Student Obama Debate Challenge"

By GottaLaff

http://lumen.nd.edu/2005_07/images/self_deception_lumen.gif

Remember that student who challenged President Obama to "an Oxford style debate" at the Grand Junction town hall meeting the other day? It turns out he is actually an aide to Greg Brophy, a rightie-wingy Republican state senator.

How ironic is it that the Rushpublics accuse Obama of planting questioners?

Although he has removed his profiles from LinkedIn and Twitter as far as I can tell, Zach Lahn's Twitter info was copied over to me in an e-mail:
@Zach Lahn - Determined Christian Conservative in CO, home state of
IA not stopping until everyone agrees w/me Pro-Life, Pro-Guns,
Pro-Reagan, Anti-Big Gov
Via Political Punch:
After a weekend of relatively tame town halls President Obama found one vocal skeptic in a college student who challenged the President to an Oxford debate over the public option at his Grand Junction, Colo., town hall this evening.

Zach Lahn, a 23-year-old student at the University of Colorado got the President's attention after shouting out during the Q and A a few times. The President finally called on him during the end of the town hall.

"I just want proof here that I'm happy to get a good debate going," the President said, knowing that he could be wading into harsher waters than he is used to.[...]

Lahn said he didn't want any generalities, or philosophical arguments from the President as a response...

"It's good to see a young person who's very engaged and confident challenging the President to a Oxford-style debate, I think this is good," he said. "You know, this is good. You know, I like that. You got to have a little chutzpah, you know."

And via ColoradoPols.com:

It also takes some "chutzpah" to fail to disclose to either the President or to reporters interviewing you afterward that you're a staffer for one of the hardest-right Republicans in the Colorado Senate, Sen. Greg "Obama's Gonna Take Yer Guns" Brophy, wouldn't you say?

Of course, anyone can ask a question at a town hall meeting, that's not a problem. However, it's always interesting to see what new amusing little twist the Rushpublics will provide next. Aren't they fun?

Had this been a Boy Georgie town hall, you can bet no Democratic staffer would have made it into the room... or even into the nearest parking lot... across the street.

Research Firm Cited by GOP Is Owned by Health Insurer

By GottaLaff

Why, what have we here? This goes nicely with Paddy's video, in which Eric Cantor showed us how his tap dancing lessons paid off:

The political battle over health-care reform is waged largely with numbers, and few number-crunchers have shaped the debate as much as the Lewin Group, a consulting firm whose research has been widely cited by opponents of a public insurance option.

To Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the House Republican whip, it is "the nonpartisan Lewin Group." To Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, it is an "independent research firm." To Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the second-ranking Republican on the pivotal Finance Committee, it is "well known as one of the most nonpartisan groups in the country."

Generally left unsaid amid all the citations is that the Lewin Group is wholly owned by UnitedHealth Group, one of the nation's largest insurers.

More specifically, the Lewin Group is part of Ingenix, a UnitedHealth subsidiary that was accused by the New York attorney general and the American Medical Association, a physician's group, of helping insurers shift medical expenses to consumers by distributing skewed data. Ingenix supplied its parent company and other insurers with data that allegedly understated the "usual and customary" doctor fees that insurers use to determine how much they will reimburse consumers for out-of-network care.

Hmmm, that doesn't sound too kosher, now does it?

In January, UnitedHealth agreed to a $50 million settlement with the New York attorney general and a $350 million settlement with the AMA, covering conduct going back as far as 1994. [...]

Lewin Group Vice President John Sheils said his firm had nothing to do with the allegedly flawed Ingenix reimbursement data. Lewin has gone through "a terribly difficult adjustment" since it was bought by UnitedHealth in 2007, because the corporate ownership "does create the appearance of a conflict of interest."

Awww, poor wittle gwoup had twouble adjusting. Need a hug?

Lewin's clients include the government and private groups with a variety of perspectives, including the Commonwealth Fund and the Heritage Foundation. A February report contained information that could be used to argue for a single-payer system, the approach most threatening to private insurers, Sheils noted.

But not all of the firm's reports see the light of day. [...]

In testimony last month to a House committee, Lewin disclosed its affiliation with UnitedHealth and Ingenix in its written submission, but in his oral testimony he did not bring it up until asked, according to a transcript. [...]

Lewin produced one of the most widely cited statistics of the health care debate: That, under a particular version of a public option, the number of people with private, employer-sponsored coverage would decline by more than 100 million.

Opponents of the public option have invoked the finding as proof that offering a government-run health plan would not just create competition for private insurers -- it would deprive people of their existing employer-sponsored coverage and lead to a government takeover of the health care system.[...]

Since then, adjusting its analysis to reflect the latest version of legislation drafted by House Democrats, Lewin has estimated that 88.1 million workers would shift from private, employer-sponsored insurance to the proposed public plan.

The Congressional Budget Office came to a different conclusion, saying that enrollment in the House Democrats' proposed public plan would total about 11 million to 12 million people. [...]

Though the millions of people Lewin was describing would lose their current employer-sponsored coverage, they wouldn't be forced into a government-run health plan, Sheils said in an interview. Rather, they would be able to choose between the government plan and other private options.

"People would indeed lose what they have, but they might very well be better off," he said.

CIA withheld secret counterterrorism program on direct orders from Cheney

By GottaLaff

http://www.mikemalloy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/cheney1.jpg

It's like someone uncorked the Bottle of Bad. First this, then this, this, a lot of this... and now this:
The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.

The report that Mr. Cheney was behind the decision to conceal the still-unidentified program from Congress deepened the mystery surrounding it, suggesting that the Bush administration had put a high priority on the program and its secrecy.

Mr. Panetta, who ended the program when he first learned of its existence from subordinates on June 23, briefed the two intelligence committees about it in separate closed sessions the next day.[...]

In the eight years of his vice presidency, Mr. Cheney was the Bush administration’s most vehement defender of the secrecy of government activities, particularly in the intelligence arena. He went to the Supreme Court to keep secret the advisers to his task force on energy, and won.

A report released on Friday by the inspectors general of five agencies about the National Security Agency’s domestic surveillance program makes clear that Mr. Cheney’s legal adviser, David S. Addington, had to personally approve every government official who was told about the program. The report said “the exceptionally compartmented nature of the program” frustrated F.B.I. agents who were assigned to follow up on tips it turned up.

High-level N.S.A. officials who were responsible for ensuring that the surveillance program was legal, including the agency’s inspector general and general counsel, were not permitted by Mr. Cheney’s office to read the Justice Department opinion that found the eavesdropping legal, several officials said.

The Nation of Dick is experiencing severe shrinkage. It's about time.

By the way, another person who really needs to be targeted, Limp Little Dick's personal Trojan, is David Addington. Let's get his name out there more, starting now. He deserves all the exposure we can muster up, pun intended.

Why Democrats won't prosecute Bush's crimes

By GottaLaff

http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/images/ACF12C.JPG

Jonathan Turley just now on MSNBC:
"Democrats like to disclose crimes, but don't like to prosecute them. Why? Because they'd have to [...] indict Bush."
Color me naive, but isn't that why one would disclose the crimes? To prosecute them? To prevent future crimes? To uphold the law?

BushCo lied and withheld information from Congress. That's a crime. So says Turley. So prosecute.

I'm sorry, I may be a little slow here, but what's the problem again?

Jan Schakowsky: "This calls for an investigation... This is serious. This was no accident"

By GottaLaff

http://images.rcp.realclearpolitics.com/2138_4_.jpg

Jan Schakowsky is on The Ed Show on MSNBC right now, discussing the CIA deception. Liveblogging:
This calls for an investigation... This is serious. This was no accident, this was a decision by the very top level not to tell Congress about a new operation... This happened right after 9/11... It would be a breach of my oath to tell what's going on, but it's serious enough that after 8 years... [then she went off on something else]

This is one of 3 serious breaches since I've been on the Intel Committee where the CIA lied or misled the U.S.

Pelosi said there were regular misleadings of the Congress. Members from both sides of the aisle have been outraged.
Of course, now Rep. Mike Rogers (R) of the Intel Committee is downplaying this, and scoffing.

Ed then asked what Leon Panetta is talking about then...?

Rogers:
A program, in concept, started in 2001... [then says he doesn't know everything]. ... Yes, I'd be in favor of an investigation... Reyes slipped a letter under the door that said, "I have determined that the CIA lied..." [paraphrased] So we need more questions answered.
Ed: The Chairman says CIA lied, you aren't...?

Rogers:
It's convenient that it happened now, using Pelosi's words. We should have more respect for them. We've been briefed on more impactful programs than this one was...
Jack Rice, former CIA:
The CIA didn't give all the info, then gave false info. The real question is who drove this? Someone at head of CIA? At White House? In Congress? ... It's about tranparency and accuracy.
Cheney has been very vocal and visible lately.

Rice:
Interesting that NOW he wants all this transparency. Let's investigtate.
Yes, let's. Thoroughly and openly. And this time, let's not get bullied into submission.

BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda

By GottaLaff

BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda 180609top
News corporation uses photo from pro-Ahmadinejad rally, claims it represents anti-government protest

UPDATE: I've been told to consider the source, and that Ahmadinejad hasn't been around for a couple of days, so... I copy and paste, you decide.

UPDATE #2, courtesy of Oliver Willis: Those guys are crazy conspiracy theorists. 9/11 truther nutjobs.

So: Take this post with a grain o' nutjobs. I'll leave it up just to expose them.

Wrong. No. And not too wise, I might add:

The BBC has again been caught engaging in mass public deception by using photographs of pro-Ahmadinejad rallies in Iran and claiming they represent anti-government protests in favor of Hossein Mousavi.

An image used by the L.A. Times on the front page of its website Tuesday showed Iranian President Ahmadinejad waving to a crowd of supporters at a public event.

In a story covering the election protests yesterday, the BBC News website used a closer shot of the same scene, but with Ahmadinejad cut out of the frame. The caption under the photograph read, ‘Supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi again defied a ban on protests’. [...]

BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda SMALL iran protest rally lie1

BBC Caught In Mass Public Deception With Iran Propaganda SMALL iran protest rally lie2

As soon as the truth about the misrepresented images surfaced on the WhatReallyHappened website yesterday, the BBC changed the photo caption on their original article. The caption now reads, ‘Tehran has seen mass demonstrations by all sides since the disputed election’.

This is not the first time the BBC has been caught red-handed using crude image and video framing techniques for the purposes of political propaganda.

Much more here.

Do they not realize the consequences of this kind of deception, especially in light of the enormity of this story?
