VIDEO- CNN's Kyra Phillips: ‘Is homosexuality a problem in need of a cure?’

By GottaLaff

Remember this interview from The Rachel Maddow Show a few months ago?

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Let's compare and contrast Rachel to Kyra's.

Via Raw Story:
To be fair, the CNN anchor poses the question in the context of discussing a 1950s-era California law which requires health experts to seek a "cure" for gayness. But the segment elevates discredited author Richard Cohen as a serious defender of the law despite the fact he was kicked out of the American Counseling Organization and practices without a license of any kind.

Here's the video of one of CNN's Best Political News Team on Television:

Rachel probes while Kyra... well, she works for CNN. She gives someone credibility where there is none.

Gay student & developmentally disabled sent to fake prom

By GottaLaff

So many words come to mind after reading this: Cowards. Discrimination. Hate. Ignorance. Pain. Shame. Wrong. Segregation. Tears. Reprehensible. Deception. Sneaky. Bullies. And several others that are unprintable....

To avoid Constance McMillen bringing a female date to her prom, the teen was sent to a "fake prom" while the rest of her class partied at a secret location at an event organized by parents.

What must this be doing to Constance? I can't even imagine, even though I can actually relate somewhat, because I went through a lot of bullying when I was a teeny, skinny, shy teen. But she seems to be one strong kid, stronger than most:

McMillen tells The Advocate that a parent-organized prom happened behind her back — she and her date were sent to a Friday night event at a country club in Fulton, Miss., that attracted only five other students. Her school principal and teachers served as chaperones, but clearly there wasn't much to keep an eye on.

This next part will add to your current nausea:

Two students with learning difficulties were among the seven people at the country club event, McMillen recalls.

I work with special ed kids all the time. They are wonderful, sweet, and do nobody any harm. These are people, with feelings, who are being treated as if they have none, who are being looked on as less important, as something so offensive, so contemptible, that they have to be hidden away.

I can't imagine how "branded" these seven students must feel, and what an indelible imprint this has made, regardless of how courageous they may seem to us, or how big her smile is in that photo (go read the whole piece; Constance is an amazing, positive teen).

They hurt.

And I hurt for them.

New Jersey Gay Marriage Vote Canceled

By GottaLaff

Legalizing expressions of love and commitment shouldn't be this hard:

Today's scheduled vote on a bill that would legalize same sex marriage in the Garden State was canceled late yesterday evening as the bill's sponsors feared a likely defeat, the New York Times reports.
Somebody give me a rational argument against this:

S&Mer Jetton Tried to Ban Gay "Deviate Sexual Intercourse"

By GottaLaff

The hypocrisy is jaw-dropping, but not surprising. Yesterday I posted about Former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton (R), who "was charged with felony assault that allegedly happened during an S&M session gone wrong".

Look out kiddies, Rod (amusing name, considering the circumstances) has it out for "deviant" Teh Gay Love!

Safe word alert level: Red (green apparently didn't work).

Here's the latest:
Rod Jetton (R), the Missouri power broker who is accused of assault in a S&M encounter gone bad, apparently fought to ban "deviate sexual intercourse" in his state -- at least when it involved same sex couples, TPM reports.

Now, the Kansas City Star reports Jetton "will be leaving politics to deal with false allegations and spend time with his family," according to a statement issued by his lawyer.
I wonder if his family wants to spend time with him.

Those wascal Wushpublics, they're America's best constant source of Family Values debauchery!

VIDEO: Lesbian YouTube video embraced by Virgina GOP

By GottaLaff

UPDATE:

TPM reports that it was a prank.
Get the kids out of the room. I'll wait. ::taps foot impatiently:: Are they gone? Good. Now get a load of this:

As Virginia political blog Not Larry Sabato details, someone who runs the RPV's official YouTube channel was apparently way into a YouTube video titled "The Kiss," a video that could potentially redefine the age-old "Virginia is for lovers" motto to include lesbian softcore erotica. I think you'll agree, this video is probably NSFW, unless you work for the Republican Party of Virginia.

Sadly, however, this brief flirtation with edge came to an end after someone removed this content from the RPV's YouTube channel. [...] Luckily, Not Larry Sabato preserved the memory with this screenshot:

There's hope for the Rushpublics yet. Sort of.

Or not.

VIDEOS: Bill O’Reilly censors photo of American Idol's Adam kissing a guy

By GottaLaff

Bile O'Homophobe's despicable double standards are in stark contrast to today's wonderful good news items that celebrate the freedom to love whomever one chooses. Check out Bile's squirming and judging and sliming his way through these few seconds of video:

Here is the photo in question, via Gawker:

Gasp! Omg, gay tongues! Mutual attraction! Expressions of passion! Gaaaa!

Now take a look at Bile reveling in the opportunity to expose (no pun) us and himself to a giant, steamy-hot helping of writhing, gyrating bevy of barely-clad, pixelated teen girls gone wild:

That was from Spring Break 2007 in South Padre Island.

Think Progress:
[W]hile O’Reilly found the image of two men kissing “so revoltingly gross and icky and offensive” that he had to crop it, he has in the past had no qualms about airing video “that included gyrating, bikini-clad drunk girls humping people during Spring Break.”
Oh, that silly cad, he can't fool us. One can almost hear him warbling "Skip to My Loofah" as the video clips are played. Um, Bile? If anybody's revoltingly gross and icky and offensive, it's you.

UPDATE-- Some excellent instant analysis of my post by BuzzFlash's Mark Karlin via an email:
Bill's fascination with barely clothed women while condemning them is the wink-wink of the church going white male who patronizes the strip during lunch hour.

My theory is that the right wing whacko stuff is the last attempt of the white male to restore white patriarchal authority. This is consistent with the plantation structure.

Remember plantation owners were church going fundies while shtuping their slaves. O'Reilly and the Dittoheads are the heirs to that tradition.
