From a panel conducted by the Detroit Free Press. Seems that they ran out of kool aid in Michigan. More here.
“Sarah Palin came across as the small town girl who made good. I knew that I disagreed with her on some issues before this evening. After listening to her speech … it appears that once she makes up her mind, that is the end of it. We live in a gray world, not every answer is black and white.”
-- Diane Murphy, 42, Sterling Heights independent
“I was completely underwhelmed. She was a Republican novelty act with a sophomoric script. It was not even a speech I would expect for a someone running for the local PTA, much less for vice president.”
-- George Lentz, 66, Southfield independent

Pretty much in line with my informal focus group this morning.

"Novelty act" is an insult to novelty acts. At least with a good novelty gag you get a hysterical fart sound; Palin's speech was all smell and no delightful PLUBBAAAAABTTTT! sound.
what these "independents" said about Michelle Obama's speech: http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:57eKtEyveCsJ:www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article%3FAID%3D/20080825/NEWS15/80826004+%22george+lentz%22+southfield+michigan&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=14&gl=us
Yup. Independent. "...And I hope she's our next first lady."
Plus, Ilene Benison, once fasted every Tuesday in solidarity with Cindy Sheehan, according to this website:http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:ewOy45uP-igJ:www.targetofopportunity.com/cindy_sheehan.htm+Ilene+Beninson
My husband grew up in Grand Rapids MI - on the western side of the state. It is a waaay different place than the eastern half like the Detroit area where those two Independents come from. It's the hometown of Amway, Blackwater founder Erik Prince and an astounding number of evangelical mega- and mini- churches. It would be interesting to hear what independents over there think.
Wonder why no one has yet raised any stink about the Fred Thomson comment " If you listen to the democrats you would think we are in a depression...." ..Well aren't we in a pathetic decline with the economy is shambles? Maybe not, since in their books middle class is a number at $5,000,999
