Obama hits McCain on Social Security

About time Obama got a headline or two.

NEWARK, N.J. -- Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama criticized Republican John McCain's approach to Social Security on Saturday, saying it would undermine the government program aimed mainly at retirees.

Obama said McCain's campaign has suggested trimming Social Security benefits and raising the eligibility age, according to prepared remarks of his speech to a gathering of the AARP. Obama was addressing the group via satellite.

(snip)

Obama also said McCain wants to privatize a portion of Social Security. McCain has praised the notion of letting younger workers place a portion of their Social Security taxes into a package that is invested and follows them to retirement, but he has not made it a campaign promise.

How many people are relieved that their SS funds aren't sinking in value the way their 401K's are?! Let the GOP handle your investments, folks, and you, too, can eat dog food in your old age!

All I have to say to that is Amen Chris. Amen. There are safer things that can be done to protect social security than gambling with it. You see, John McCain has a gambling habit. He will gamble with the trust of we the people. He will take uncalculated craps shots with the economy. His latest craps shot is Sarah Palin. That is all she is.A craps shot. We just cant have a gambler in the whitehouse.

It is incredible that in a time of massive government bail-outs of the financial sector, and a falling stock market that Senator McCain would still be trotting out that old horse about privatizing social security.

Privatizing social security is nothing more than an invitation to bail-out not only Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, but also ALL of Wall Street (deemed "eligible" for social sec. "private" investment) during another Wall Street bubble burst.

I don't want a plutocracy Senator McCain. I want the U.S. Government that is Of the People, by the People and for the People. I want social security to stay a safe investment, not a vehicle by which the very rich can keep taking my $$$$ through govt. bail-outs, no-bid contracts and no-supervision contracts. I know Senator McCain likes craps, but this is ridiculous.
