I guess speeches are important after all, huh, J Sid? Rudy?
Keith Olbermann: She clearly gives a great speech... as for the content....?
Chris Matthews: Surprised at what I saw. I thought they wanted an alternative to Hillary. Not one time did I think of Hillary, nothing in common. She offered a rejoinder to Obama. A torpedo at the ship of Barack and Michelle. This is a cultural alternative to Obama.
Keith: Condescension toward Obama and the other Dems. Is that the right tone?
Chris: It's a response as if she were playing defense, as Obama did in his speech. Very appealing presentation, people will like her.
Keith: Norma Rae by way of Flick, Reese Witherspoon's character in "Election".
Keith just said what I said in Comments: Biden can throw punches now.
Delegate: "I loved Sarah's face." She's voting for a face.
Chris: It will sell in Scranton.
Eugene Robinson: Most of the speech was canned, written by McCain speechwriters.
Nora O'Donnell: She's tough, she nailed this speech.
Chris: This is a new political presence in our lives.
Rachel Maddow: Sarcasm, mockery, insults. We got a little about Palin as a person, a lot about Obama. I'm surprised we got so much nasty sniping at Obama so quickly.
Pat Buchanan likes her voice. 'Nuff said.
Chris: Nobody has talked about bringing to term a Down Syndrome's baby, Pat.
Eugene: There was no specific appeal to women. The policy stuff was boilerplate.
Rachel: This is the first time she ever talked about nuclear weapons, etc. She had phonetic spellings of countries...
Brian Williams: One delegate said, "she lived the American dream." Guess who else you can say that about? About the attacks on the media: Time Magazine is blasting Sarah Palin... Attempts to bully us is stupid ...and ...unprofessional....

This is one time I hate to say "I told you so."
I guess this is their idea of performance art, combining the national anthem with the pledge of allegiance.
Wolf Blitzer is no art critic.
"Raising McCain" will remove all remaining doubt that a McCain administration promises to be anti-intellectual.
Jon, you'd think so.
Wolf even said "a star is born." Guess he loves witnessing that sort of thing.
These RNC delegates are a bunch of bedwetters.
jon, i think msnbc might be a little more bearable. at least there's ko.
This is what people vote for. It's no longer about the country, it's about the face and demeanor.
GL: I agree, but I don't think her manner will wear well over the next 2 months. And I agree that she just made it OK for Biden to go after her in the debate.

I love the comment, "I'm voting for her because she's lived in America!" No shit...
Back in a few minutes...I realize that, as a filmmaker, I must post tribute to Don LaFontaine at both my feature film blogs.
In a world where Sarah Palin nauseates anyone with a 3-digit IQ...
So Sarah Jane gives good speech. I'm dying of not-surprise after all her rehearsal and prepping, plus having the benefit of preaching to the converted. Sarcasm and bitchiness. Plenty of space left for crowds to boo the opposition. Wait til she has to campaign in the Real World.
Obama gives a good speech, but when he does it, it's elitist.
Jon. So sad about LaFontaine. You're a filmmaker? I'm an editor out in LA. I'm fairly new to this blog but it's my new favorite...don't think I could have watched the RNC without this...haha.
Scott, I'm out there too... and in da biz. Weee!
Gotta love it right? haha.
Ha! Gotta.
Oh! They're calling roll! "Present."
Well I'm out. Nice talking with you all. Look forward to "more of the same" in days to come. Have a good one.
They're talking about the lick and the smoothing of the baby's hair... ew.
You too, Scott. See you tomorrow.
I enjoyed film work but man I hated the constant looking for your next job, and I'm waaaay out here on the wrong coast which didn't help.
So I now work with theater -oop theatre people. Eh. It's a living.
Pat Buchanan must be having an orgasm. He just called Palin's performance a "shut out in the first game of the World Series."
I didn't see a shut-out, and I could've sworn the "World Series" started with last week's convention.
Jane, I write/direct theatre. : )
I love Eugene Robinson when he stated the policy stuff was canned & the same stuff the thugs been said during the primaries.
Thanks, Scott, and thanks to the anonymous poster whose LaFontaine impression speaks truth. It's nice to have a triple-digit IQ, even if it does deprive one of the bliss enjoyed by so many others.
Jane, I haven't made a living with any of the arts I do but I keep trying. We know what happens when we don't try.
Carol, me too.
Jon, he'll be missed. Absolutely.
Speaking of deaths, one very few are acknowledging: A close friend of mine, Sheldon Keller. Google him.
Laffy, normally I hate actors. I think they just spend too much time standing by on set with noone to talk to that they lose the ability to converse.
I was one on TV for quite awhile... most are too self absorbed to talk to anyone.
Why's Tweety so obsessed with Scranton, PA? Who gives a fuck if McCain can sell this hateful bitch in Scranton, PA for God's sake?
Scranton does not decide an election. Can SOMEONE tell Matthews that someday?
I dunno Jon, try in one hand and shit in the other...

So far, not very positive.
Ady, that's where Biden is from.
I wondered who else had passed since these losses tend to happen in threes. I thought I recognized Sheldon Keller's name. I'm glad you got to know him.
Before anyone accuses me of claiming to be more than I am, my filmmaking is totally no-budget and out-of-pocket. Same thing still applies...I have to try.
GL, sorry about the loss of your friend.
That's what I thought, Gotta. So why's Tweety obsessed with that place? I don't get it.
Scranton is Biden's hometown, Ady. Very blue collar.
I don't think she'll wear well, either, in the real world. She's incredibly grating. She's one of the most irritating speakers in recent memory.
I suspect that anyone who falls for all that mean-spirited, content-free, snide nonsense would never vote for Obama anyway. It's was all preaching to the choir.
And FWIW, I think Rudy, Huck, Fiorina and Whitman all gave much "better" speeches.
Ady, Matthews, who is from Philly, is obsessed with all things Pennsylvania.
Thanks, guys. He gave me my first TV job. I met Mr. Laffy through him. His son and Mr. Laffy are writing partners, and he's pals with F.I.L.
He was a talented, hilarious, accomplished writer/producer: "Your Show of Shows" for starters...
Ah man, you guys are talking actors, film making and talent. Totally out of my league. But I've become a Desperate Housewife in only a few weird hours. Does that count?
Naw. Still no talent.
Ady, I'll be your outlet, if you like...
Adrienne do you look like Hatcher or Longoria? If so, talent won't matter.
Which one of the DH's do you most resemble? :)
Jon, I've done even worse- worked on other people's films for free. And for practically free. Used to threaten each other with "You'll never work for free in this town again."
Jane, at least I can tell you that's not my style.
If you want to be in one of my films, we can pay you on a commission/profit sharing basis...might not be anything up front but it won't be for free, at least :)
Hey, Ady, will a song help your mood now?
I posted a new one. Nighty night, gang.
Who designed the stage for this convention. The 60 story TV screen background must be impressive for the audience in the arena, but the real audience is TV where 80% of the camera shot is a close up. Not visually striking, looks like they are standing in front of green screen.
Oh Jon, I got "deferred pay" on all those things too. Sorry-I don't want to sound negative: some people I worked with are still at it, here in nowheresville doing commercials, writing in California, gripping in NYC...I was just too lazy to be a good hustler. And I didn't want to move to where the work is.
(This is back before the Internets mind you!)
Jane, if you're really feeling that demotivated then you might as well move to Athens. You'll fit right in!
Clancy, I NEED some talent. Oh Gawd, help me.
I have blonde hair and blue eyes, but I made my hair darker for a change out of boredom. So, light brown now? Not sure b/c then I highlighted it.
Nice, Jon. Do you know Edwin McCain (he has a very unfortunate last name, I know)?
God, I LOVE him. Greenville's favorite son.

Hall & Oates singing in the background; "Sarah Smiles"!
A better Edwin--Greenville, SC's favorite son.

I say they shut the camera off/leave the mic on and we get to hear what they really think.
