CORRECTION: The "anointed" line was referring to Obama. I didn't catch that until the replay some time after I posted this.
Chris Matthews just swallowed it whole: He called him a maverick. He has effectively divorced himself from BushCo, he said. THIS MAN HAS LAUNCHED HIMSELF, I SEE HIM BEING AHEAD IN THE POLLS.
Kool-Aid much, Chris?
Now Kelly O'Donnell is saying his aides are the one who "convinced him" to use his P.O.W. story, and making it a metaphor for change... Has everyone gone mad?
Andrea Mitchell is completely buried under balloons. Hilarious. Keith: The political equivalent of a Chuck E. Cheese. Ha! Brian Williams: The Where's Waldo of this convention.
She just said, "this is the least partisan speech I've heard."
I repeat: Has everyone gone stark raving mad?
Keith: It worked inside the hall. But outside the hall?
Brian: We'll find out. Tom Brokaw and I used the word "warrior" tonight about McCain. He was wedded to the teleprompter. The unfortunate green screen appearance. The song Barracuda that came on after him. The protesters. But this is what it's all about, on the floor. No mention of Bush.
HILLARY:
We have to win. Period.Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
Thursday, Sep 4, 2008The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Senator Obama and Senator Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Senator McCain and Governor Palin do not.
After listening to all the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces. So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.
"There was more spontaneous enthusiasm for Palin than for McCain."-- Michael Gerson. "He talked about being a past maverick. How will he be a future reformer? He didn't answer that." Gerson, a former Bush writer, wasn't impressed.
MSNBC's Ron Allen: He lost them in the middle, but got them back at the end.
Jeff Toobin, CNN: Worst speech by a presidential nominee since Carter. Boring, pointless... I wonder if they sent all their speechwriters over to Palin and forgot about McCain.
Chuck Todd: He should have inserted a Democratic idea to promote, after his line about accepting ideas from everyone. This convention won't be remembered for this speech, but for Palin. The 2 biggest applause moments were when he mentioned her name, and when she came up on stage. Nobody said he was a speechmaker. The producer was surprised there was no trademark McCain humor in this. He's probably relieved this is behind him, looks forward to debate. Said "fight" 25 times. Palin is providing the makeover he needed.
Keith: The green screen, then a plain blue screen (see last post)... What works in a hall doesn't always work on TV. Is it a problem if #2 gets more applause than #1?
David Gregory: Not right now. He accomplished being the leader of the Republican party tonight. This was about the base tonight. I am surprised there wasn't more of a blue print of policy issues. He used a Bush line from 2000 about education. His theme is transcending party, working for the people. The economy is Issue One. Hillary/Obama spoke to that.
People in the room booed when he talked about reaching out to Obama.
Say good night, Laffy. Good nigh, Laffy.

Go Obama
lets fire back !
Just when I thought Matthews' testicles were dropping, they shot right back up again.
How did he differentiate himself from Bush? Policy issues? That he went to war and Bush was in hiding?
Tell me....
O God
matthews is inSANE. And occasionally funny, unintentionally
really ahead?
They're insane. They're nuts.
where is KO?
I try to be jane, but my 12 yr old is extremely smart (taking college classes) but he is looking at this as making fun of an adult....
I KNOW they don't have permission for these songs

He's talking. I just posted.
Has everyone gone mad? Yes, yes they have. Mrs Greenspan just said that McPOW's speech was - I believe the words she used were - the least partisan speech she'd heard.
That's what I thought! Thanks for confirming.
Andrea Greenspan also is having a phobic reaction to balloons.
Were they listening to the same crap
McPOW is going to Wisconsin, is the lying ho going too, I know she was going to Alaska for seclusion but that little pesky disposition may have changed her plans...
Anyone with concrete info

THANKS HILARY !
In other news, Vanderbilt is leading South Carolina 24-10!
They just said they're taking off immediately, both of them, together. But I missed where they were going.
Opps meant deposition, but the other word will work too
they are going to Wisconsin ?
Bad bad idea for O to go on O'Reilly...the surge has succeeded beyond our wildest dreams?...geez.....so we know what's coming...MCwar was right, Obama was wrong..he finally admitted it on O'Reilly bla bla bla....why did he do that?...ok I give up....I'm depressed.
MSNBC said they're flying to Wisconsin. Couldn't they drive it and use less fuel?
Thanks, Jack. I'll post.
You know for all their stops we should have community organizers protesting outside the venue
good idea Carol
everybody need to get 100% active
Anyone else feel like you're in a parallel universe?
an EVIL parallel universe
John Stewart is on fire ripping Palin's speech.I feel sooo much better.
God yes.

we can't have 4 more years of McBush
NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN.
Joe, thanks for that. I needed it.
Me too :]
Chuck Todd up next.
Does anyone else think Palin looks like she is the perfect Mary Kay saleslady?
Evers!
Yes. Yes she does.
Check my post... Mr. Laffy gave me a great quote from Toobin.
Colbert talked about the "thanks, but no, thanks" to the bridge to nowhere, but pointed out that Alaska didn't give back the money! I'm inclined to believe him...
The Amway presidency?
chris...believe.
Chris, they didn't give the money back. I believe they went ahead and built the road to the bridge not built.
If Palin had actually cultivated a relationship with the Russians, that money could be making 9% interest in a Russian bank while they stall for time in giving it back.
At least one "evil genius" has been defeated tonight: Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks have lost to Vanderbilt 24-17.
and my cable rebootrs again. That makes every nite this week and two-3 nights last week. couldn;t they wait till 3am to "update software"?? Noone does anything at 3 am, remember?
Jane, are you using a Motorola modem?
Niters, all! I'm done in.
may be the cable modem will get a call @ 3 a.m
LOL
Night, Gotta! Thanks for doing such a fantastic job with the live blogging tonight!
My pleasure. You guys make it all worth it!
you would think but no, its the time warner major expensive digicable with the DVR (addictive as hell for those "what was THAT" moment)
thanks laffy goodnite!
night !
the real game begins
Jane, I asked because my Charter-provided Motorola modem was dropping out too much so I hooked up a Toshiba I bought used and already had registered with Charter. Hasn't dropped yet.
I haven't done the DVR thing yet. And even with my finally-stable internet service, there's no way I'm getting Charter telephone service.
oh I thought you were making a dial up joke. They've already swapped the modem once but the past couple days when you call they say "were doing software upgrades"
The democratic party and its leader need to be like the Republican: speak with one voice, destroy and discredit McCain and Palen. If I don't hear Clinton, Sebeluis and others repeat every truth about Palen + McWar from now till November 08, then they've failed to do their job.
If I want to live under a country like Iran....I'll move there. Sarah Palen and her think-tank are what the Taliban is to Islam. Extremism will destroy our country and make us the laughing stalk of the world.
The anointed thing was actually him making fun of Obama.
NN, I realized that when I saw a replay. I'm going to fix it. Thanks.
