Florida Republican women's group to boycott Oprah

By GottaLaff

This started with yet another lie by Republicans:
The Florida Federation of Republican Women made the decision to boycott the Oprah Winfrey Show Saturday, after the media mogul refused to have Gov. Sarah Palin as a guest on her show until after the election wraps up.

"Women in Florida helped build Oprah into the icon she is today," Linda Ivell, President of the FFRW said in a statement. "We are deeply disappointed in Ms. Winfrey's decision to sit out the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage."

The talk show host denied accusations Friday, that she was even considering the vice presidential nominee as a guest.

"At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a plat for any of the candidates," Winfrey wrote in a statement, responding to a story from The Drudge report claiming her staff was "sharply divided" on whether they should book the Alaska Governor. [...]

The Florida Federation of Republican Women, the "largest political organization in Florida," celebrating the groups 58 year anniversary is also encouraging members to cancel subscriptions to O Magazine, Ivell said.

Oh, but it's only temporary. They're just angry for now. It's just a pretend boycott:

Ivell did not say the Florida Republicans would be tuning out indefinitely, but at least until 'after the election.' Adding, she and her members respect the decision to support Obama, "as every American is entitled to their personal opinion and vote."

So it's okay with them if Oprah decides not to invite Obama or McCain, but if she turns SledDog Sarah down, she has somehow betrayed them. Yeah, that makes sense.

Were Sarah Lou or the McPOW campaign clamoring for an invite and Oprah refused them?? I'm finding that a little hard to believe. Nice how they wrote it up that way, tho, like Palin would go on Oprah if invited.
Can you imagine if she did go on Oprah and continued to refuse to sit down with actual journalists?

That's exactly what she wants to do... People Magazine? Come on.

Softball, or none at all.

I'm not sure, but I think trashing Oprah is a bad strategy.

She has millions of fans who may be put off by the repubs trying to make Oprah a scapegoat.

One can only hope that happens, Evers.

Maybe Oprah should have her on, and ask her about this:

Thanks, CPants. I'll read and most likely post. I saw something about this yesterday, but the source wasn't good.

I doubt this one is. I have no idea what the LA Progressive is . . .

I for one am totally fed up with Oprah. I am a former fan. She has been getting more and more arrogant. Let's face it...she knew from the beginning that Barack would be a presidential candidate. That is why she had him on the OW twice. Then, she refuses to have political candidates on the show. What's up with this? Does she think we are stupid? Hardly. This is a ridiculous little dirty trick. I hope Palin does NOT go on the show....I'm sure more dirty tricks would follow. Oprah is insecure and immature. I say, turn her show off and dump her sponsors. Some of her advertisers are: Dove, Lowes, Chase, Frontline, Murad, Playtext, Bali, Pella, Philosophy, Allstate, Kodack, Verizon, Target, HBO, Disney/Univeral, Kelloggs, Pfizer, GM and Clinique. Shop around people. There are lots of sales going on these days. Spend the time you would have spent on her silly show writing sponsors for a time or two, then use it to do charity work or exercise. You will be much happier, thinner and healthier.

Personally, I've never watched her show. But then, that's not the point of this post, is it?

i'm sure oprah is heartbroken.

Somehow, I suspect that the Oprah faithful far outnumber the outraged GOP-grrls of Florida. I doubt Ms. Ivell and company will be any more successful in giving Oprah a knock than the Texas cattlemen were.

As for "the greatest political moment in the history of women since suffrage"? I don't think a History Channel highlights-reel would be quite so brief.

Oprah has about 20 million Americans...some were pissed when she didn't support Hillary, but most are back after Palen scared the heck out of them. I doubt she'll cry into her $billions with what sad pointless Republican dying breed in Florida think of her.

Haaaaahhh.. you're so right Cyndi!

I doubt very seriously, that Oprah even cares about Republican Women's
opinion of her/Oprah Winfrey Show/HARPO Inc.

Oprah's made her multi-billions...
and still LAUGHING ALL THE
WAY TO THE BANK!!!!

"Hey Oprah, ya dropped a few million on your way to tha bank...can I have 'em"???

I would like to see Oprah have both Biden and Palin on, seperately of course. Ask serious questions of Biden, ask exactly the same questions of Palin.

It's still her show, and she still does a lot of good in the world, even if she did also give us Dr. Phil.

Oprah and Obama are racists. If Obama is elected, get used to getting dissed if you're White. Just ask Hillary & Bill.

For every magazine cancelled , there will be 10 new subscriptions. It is so stupid to suggest that Boycotting her show will really affect it. In fact it will make others like me who are supporting Obama and who rarely watch her show , be even more commited to watch it.Stop wining
