Ground game people, it's all about the ground game.
The buzz created by the Democratic National Convention, which kicked off Monday in Denver, has filtered into Republican-heavy Kansas.
And some say it’s even a bit closer to home.
Burdett Loomis, a political science professor at the University of Kansas, said there’s more interest locally in this year’s election than in years past.
“The energy is way on the Democratic side this time,” he said.
(snip)
“The turnout for the caucuses was about 30 times the historic average,” he said of the more than 37,000 Kansans who participated in caucuses, according to figures from the Kansas Democratic Party. “We planned for a turnout many times over the historic performance, and it was many times greater than that. “That certainly kick-started the year.”
Harry Mullins, a steering committee member of the Olathe Area Democrats, said the excitement was evident from caucus participants who stood outside for hours in freezing rain just to be a part of the political process.
“And those folks have continued to become involved,” he said of the increased number of registered Democrats in Johnson County.

BFCE?
YES!!!
Didn't want to overplay it.
Ain't possible.
My whole family and I went to the caucus in Johnson County, KS. The line went for (I'm not embellishing here) at least a 1/2 MILE outside of the church where we caucused. I'd venture to say it was weighted heavily Obama.
The weather was cold, with freezing drizzle, and we all stuck it out. The party officials ended up skipping the caucus and had us all write down our choice on a sheet of paper.
I've seen two, TWO McCain signs in the KC Metro area. I see Obama signs everywhere!!!!!!
My question... by what margin did Bush win here Bush v kerry?
Also, I've seen NO McCain bumper stickers. None.
I see at least one Obama bumper sticker every day during my commute.
I see Kansas getting awfully purple.
What does BFCE, IMHO, and IMO mean?
Ellen, I don't about the state, but my county was 61% bush 37% Kerry.
The state was probably close to that tally.
donnie, it was. 62-37 statewide.
Donnie - Ouch can we beat that ever
?
Anon: Best Fucking Campaign Ever.
anon - IMO is the brand name for a sour cream substitute that was popular in the 1960s & 70s.
IMHO is one's way of subtly advertising their charms; on sale now.
Clancy, thanks. I figured as much.
Ellen, I gotta think certain parts of the state tilt blue (Northeast and Lawrence area). I truly think there's a lot of apathetic moderate republicans in this state. I'm working hard on my life-long repub parents. They really like Obama and are REALLY glad he picked Biden (HRC would've been a deal-breaker) :)
IMO = In My opinion and IMHO= In my Humble opinion. Cemuni.
