By GottaLaff

To listen, go here.

There Are Some Who Call Me Tim
Episode 125 – April 18, 2010

On episode 125 of There Are Some Who Call Me Tim, I am joined by GottaLaff and Paddy from ThePoliticalCarnival.net. ThePoliticalCarnival.net is an awesome progressive political blog that I follow and GottaLaff and Paddy work really hard to share the latest political news in a fun and fabulous setting.

On today’s show, GottaLaff, Paddy and I talk about the story behind ThePoliticalCarnival.net, then we have fun with the All A Tweetie segment and we close out the show with a discussion about the current political stories from Teaparty and Militia Protests to other political headlines that will just blow your mind in our current political atmosphere.

Thank you, Tim. You made it fun and easy for us, a wonderful, friendly host!

AUDIO: Laffy on the Randi Rhodes Radio Show with Nicole Sandler

By GottaLaff

Today I got a call from Nicole Sandler of the infamous "blackmail Keith Olbermann to get him to follow me on Twitter" plot, and of course, progressive talk radio fame.

She was filling in for Randi Rhodes and asked me to pop in. I was more than happy to, and here is that very segment:

Thank you, geoff9cow, for grabbing this for us!

AUDIO: Laffy on the Radio with Karl Knox, Montreal

By GottaLaff

Here's the show I did the other day on a Montreal AM station with Karl Knox. He was terrific, and easy to talk to both on and off the air. He's invited me back!

It runs about a half an hour, so grab a cup, or bottle, of something and enjoy the really bad phone reception between California and Canada:

Laffy on the radio: The Nicole Sandler Show VIDEO- March 31, 2010

By GottaLaff

My segment starts at about the 30 minute mark.

Nicole Sandler is a pleasure to talk to. It's like a couple of pals gabbing our heads off, a sort of stream of consciousness.

Thank you, Nicole, for putting me at ease and making a half hour fly by!

AUDIO-The Michelangelo Signorile Show: Laffy on the Radio with Lizz Winstead

By GottaLaff

Here is the audio of the Michelangelo Signorile Show that I did with Lizz Winstead (in for Signorile).

It was a veritable Palinpalooza:

It was like two girlfriends chatting. Lizz is so gracious, so much fun, and I thank her again for inviting me to join her.

For the record, Not Joe the Not Plumber is no longer a McCain supporter. I took my info from a report that has since been corrected.

Major thank you to Tim Corrimal for grabbing this off Sirius/XM for me.

Dennis Miller: Health care enables your kid not to grow up!

By GottaLaff

http://candidchatter.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/wayne-garth-waynes-world-15834539.jpg

Mr. Laffy was on his way home, stuck in the usual Los Angeles traffic, and started flipping through radio stations when who did he stumble upon? Why none other than Dennis Miller, former comedian.

He was so astounded at what he heard that he actually wrote down part of Miller's rant when he got home, just so he would remember enough details to tell me, so I could tell you.

And I will (some paraphrasing).

"Here's the fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans," an astonished Dennis said. "Obama health care means your kids can now stay on your health care insurance... until they're twenty-six! That means you're enabling your kid... not to grow up!"

Yes, by caring for our children, by preventing their illness, by allowing them to, you know, live, we are turning them all into Peter Pans. Clap three times if you want them to die!

"It's Wayne's World, where your grown kid will be living in your basement... until they're twenty-six!!"

Pshyeah. Health care. Party on.

"Even the Birdman of Alcatraz made his birds leave the nest!"

So-o-o, our kids are living in prison, and keeping them well is a life sentence. Damn those pesky family values!

Republicans won't help the poor and disadvantaged. They don't even want to help their kids.

To quote Mr. Laffy, "Get your kids off the dole!"

Now let's compare and contrast. This is what our differences boil down to... It's all in the inflection:

Democrats: Now your kids can stay on your policy ::parade music:: until they're 26! (Excellent!)

Republicans: Now your kids can stay on your policy ::ominous music:: ... until they're 26!!! (Exsqueeze me? I baking powder?)

I'm gonna hurl.

AUDIO: The Ed Schultz Radio Show with Lizz Winstead & Laffy

By GottaLaff

Can you tell this means a lot to me?

Seriously, what a blast, and what an honor. Lizz Winstead is so gracious, such a generous, sweet, funny pal, she nearly... nearly... made me get over my nervousness.

Okay, no she didn't, but she made it a whole lot easier.

I hope you like it:

PhotOh! Shameless Ed Schultz fangirl post

By GottaLaff

I am unapologetically gaga over this. Ed also tweeted something similar just now on Twitter, and I am flattered beyond belief:

What an honor.

And Lizz Winstead could not have been a more generous, hilarious host. I love today.

Go ahead, tease me. I don't care.

Laffy will be on Ed Schultz radio show within the hour

By GottaLaff

FYI, I will be a guest on the Ed Schultz show at 11:15 or 11:30ish Pacific today, live stream here.

Lizz Winstead is the guest host and invited me on.

That is all.

Heckuva Job Brownie gets a radio talk show

By GottaLaff

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1fXgApL4BWG2z02XRCrJRXjDIHe3pziNmZMq_MR2sH3yATkqjIdbBgm2g3zV7jOPt8uUk7a-ITDH8oIjB67jXFYC4jeqlloD7RGxSv8rig3DO-dLDhuLXO4JeBFfnJpvKIiuF0EitiNGJ/s400/BushBrownieChertoff.jpg

Not only did he get a show, he got a prime time show. Maybe he'll do a terrible job, fail to show up, then get a public pat on the back:

Michael Brown, the former head of FEMA much excoriated for the agency's response to Hurricane Katrina, reportedly has a deal to become a talk radio host in Denver.

He's going all fair and balanced on us:

Brown told the blog he'll resist jumping on the media bandwagon when someone in the news is painted as a villain, offering an "objective point of view." [...]

He's also teaching a class on the Patriot Act this spring at the University of Denver.[...]

The AM programming director for Clear Channel, which owns KOA, said Brown is "really very knowledgeable about what is going on and has solid opinions. Out of a list of really great candidates, he came to the top."

Good lord, imagine who was at the bottom.

Palin Radio Daze: Palin goes on... Palin Radio

By GottaLaff

Wow, what a stretch. I hope Barbie McLipSchmutz can handle the pressure:
Sarah Palin Radio is interviewing - you guessed it - Sarah Palin on Monday night in a 30-minute Webcast. [...]

[T]he Web based show proudly bills itself as "Governor Palin's own 'friendly' media.'"

Here's what it says on the above web page:

"Sarah Palin Radio is an independent, hour-long program on wsRadio.com that supports Governor Sarah Palin and the ideals that she represents and is not affiliated with any organization."
So I guess questions about what she reads are out? I wonder which ghost writer is penning the pre-scripted interview.

Can you imagine if she ever granted a real interview? With, you know, challenging questions? By a journalist who wouldn't let her squirm out of answering with a few too's and also's?

Me neither.

As Angie's special correspondent and demented sidekick Buttercup, I bring her silly stories along with serious ones every week, and whatever else happens to pop up in the week's news.

By GottaLaff

If you missed it:

I was on the Radio Machine with the absolutely wonderful Angie Coiro (on San Francisco's progressive station Green 960) Friday night, discussing these posts:

Three Percenters: "Attempt to further oppress us at your peril"...

Twitter post: "I think Nidal Hasan is an absolute hero"...

Definition of stupid: Brag about election-related vandalism on Twitter, plus these appalling photos.

If you missed the Big News, I now have a regular radio spot with her every Friday night at 6:45 Pacific!

Don't let the door hit ya...

By GottaLaff

http://estergoldberg.typepad.com/.a/6a0105349ca980970c0111689fe0af970c-800wi

Buh-bye now. See ya. Toodles. James the Quitter is throwing in the towel.

I'd shed a few tears, but I'm too busy celebrating:
But Friday's announcement that James Dobson is leaving Focus on the Family's daily radio show has much bigger political ramifications. Whereas Falwell and Kennedy had watched their power fade decades earlier and Weyrich was a behind-the-scenes Washington player rather than a cultural force, Dobson is still hugely influential among millions of Americans, particularly evangelicals. By leaving his radio show, Dobson is giving up his biggest platform.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a shame. Maybe I'll send him a Sponge Bob Squarepants DVD as a going away present.
Going forward, Dobson will turn some heads when he appears as a guest on Focus radio shows or on the Fox News Channel. But you can't maintain the kind of bond honed through daily contact with listeners with occasional media appearances.

This is the end of an era.

Not quite the end...

...ClusterFox awaits.

AUDIO: Laffy on the radio talking Obama death threats + Sarah Palin v. Tina Fey

By GottaLaff

I was on the Radio Machine with the absolutely wonderful Angie Coiro (on San Francisco's progressive station Green 960) Friday night, discussing more death threats against President Obama, and Sarah Palin's rivalry with Tina Fey's 30 Rock character, Liz Lemon.

Yes, I did my Barbie McLipSchmutz impression.

We also covered Halloween and ::shudder:: Pat Robertson:

If you missed the Big News, I now have a regular radio spot with her every Friday night at 6:45 Pacific!

As Angie's special correspondent and demented sidekick Buttercup, I bring her one silly story and one serious one every week, or whatever else happens to pop up in the week's news.

Here's the advantage of being on the Radio Machine v. on the Tee Vee Machine: I get to eat during the show and nobody knows... unless I talk with my mouth full.

eBay refuses to allow auction for Roeder’s defense fund

By GottaLaff

Earlier I posted the audio of my appearance on Angie Coiro's radio show discussing my post about this very topic. At that time, as of last night, we weren't sure of eBay's position, although we highly suspected it would be this:

Based on the details we know about the anticipated listings, we believe these would violate our policy regarding offensive material,” the company said in a statement to The Kansas City Star. “EBay will not permit the items in question to be posted to the eBay site, and they will be removed if they are posted.”

The announcement came the same day that Tiller’s family implored eBay to prevent the auction.

“These materials contain hate messages, glorify violence against abortion doctors who provide constitutionally protected medical services, and instruct on means of violence, including bombing, of abortion clinics,” said Lee Thompson, an attorney for the Tiller family, in a letter sent to eBay on Tuesday and approved by Tiller’s widow, Jeanne Tiller.

“We urge you to deny access to the resources of eBay for this reprehensible and vile ‘auction.’ ”

Done. Good. And expected.

AUDIO: Laffy on the radio talking anti-abortion fundraiser for Dr. Tiller's assassin

By GottaLaff

I was on the Radio Machine with the absolutely wonderful Angie Coiro (on San Francisco's progressive station Green 960) Monday night, discussing the story about anti-choicers raising money on e-Bay for the legal defense of Dr. George Tiller's assassin.

If you missed the Big News, I now have a regular radio spot with her every Friday night at 6:45 Pacific!

I lerves me the Angie; it's like talking to my best friend...

...only in front of thousands and thousands of people.

Okay, I just made myself nervous.

Shameless TPC promotion and a big fat thank you

By GottaLaff

http://www.governmentalityblog.com/.a/6a00e552b8e36088340115721c37ae970b-320wi
Thank you, Allen!

Allen McDuffee and I became pals on Twitter recently. He's a very accomplished, very sweet guy who tells jokes better than I do. Way better.

Anyway, he has a blog, and on that blog he very generously introduces other blogs to his readers. Today, The Political Carnival is lucky enough to be one of them.

Allen e-mailed and asked me if he could send me some questions so he could use the answers in his post. He did, I did, and the results can be found here.

Before the trolls accuse me, again, of seeking "fame" (certainly not fortune, or we wouldn't need fundraisers), Allen approached me, not the other way around. I'd be pretty stupid to decline. I'm not sure why it's wrong to promote one's own site, or want due credit for breaking stories that go global, but just in case, I thought I'd better explain preemptively. Again, it's a wonderful feeling to accomplish something after years of diligence. Paddy and I work hard and are grateful when we are acknowledged. So:

Thank you Allen, for your kindness. It means the world to TPC. It's not easy for a "boutique" blog like ours to reach as many readers as the gargantuan sites, so your help is very much appreciated.

And thank you, TPC readers, for keeping us going. It all comes down to you, who we adore madly.

Speaking of reaching readers, I'll be on the Angie Coiro Show (on San Francisco's progressive station Green 960) tonight at 6:15 pm Pacific to talk about last night's post about anti-choicers raising money for Dr. Tiller's assassin.

For those who have asked, my regular spot is every Friday (6:45-7:00 pm Pacific), but Angie asked me to pop in tonight because of that story Paddy found.
