VIDEO: Oops! GOP lawmaker's "war on Christmas"

By GottaLaff

This from the Rushpublic who introduced a resolution that “urges protection of the symbols and traditions of Christmas.”

Will these people ever grasp the reality that their idiotic words, both written and spoken, are documented on the Internets, videos, and photos? Case in point:

Hyp. O. Crite:

However, [Rep. Henry Brown 's(R-SC)] 2008 December newsletter wished a “happy holiday” to his constituents for the “holiday season.” Although the newsletter had a link to the White House Christmas tree website, it made no other mention of Christ or Christmas. [...] And as Slate’s Chris Beam has observed, Brown didn’t introduce his resolution last year, even though President Bush’s 2008 holiday card didn’t mention Christmas either.
Screen shot of the text of his newsletter here.

Happy holidays, Rep. Brown!

VIDEO- The real War on Christmas: Jesus shoots Santa in display

By GottaLaff

Jesus Shoots Santa In Christmas Display

Seasons greetings, Bill O'Reilly! You know how you always seem to be blaming evil liberal Commies for the so-called War on Christmas? The one in which the words "happy holidays" are the weapon of choice? I still haven't figured out what war that is exactly... but I did stumble across a showdown between Jesus and his former colleague Santa. Thought you might be interested.

So will Bill-O and friends condemn Jesus for gunning down Kris Kringle? Or will they stand by J.C.'s Second Amendment rights and call it self defense? Killing Rudolph would have been more acceptable. After all, he's only a reindeer, and hunting is A-OK with most folks, right? But running him over? Scandalous.

Oh, but I kid the Bill-O.

Seriously, what kind of "creative" mind comes up with brutal faux Santacide as appropriate front yard art?

Jesus Christ, you have the right to remain silent... night:
A Christmas display featuring Jesus shooting Santa Claus and a run-over Rudolph is riling some residents of a California neighborhood, KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, Calif., reported. Homeowner Ron Lake said his Christmas display in Nipomo is an expression of his repressed creativity, and that Santa represents the commercialism of Christmas.
Let's not forget that whole First Amendment thing, either. In this case, it's very disturbing, unpleasant freedom of speech.

Well, at least per Ron Lake, we now know what Jesus would do.

PLEASE NOTE: I REMOVED THE VIDEO because it was doing that autoplay thing. You can find it here.

Saved! House GOP Introduces Resolution Defending Christmas

By GottaLaff

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/2845/original.jpg

What next, a resolution defending food? Oh, but not the dreaded acorn cookies. There'd have to be an amendment to omit those:
This week, 19 House Republicans unveiled a resolution (H. RES. 951) to make it clear that Congress likes Christmas.

Whereas Christmas is a national holiday celebrated on December 25; and

Whereas the Framers intended that the First Amendment of the Constitution, in prohibiting the establishment of religion, would not prohibit any mention of religion or reference to God in civic dialog: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) recognizes the importance of the symbols and traditions of Christmas;

(2) strongly disapproves of attempts to ban references to Christmas; and

(3) expresses support for the use of these symbols and traditions by those who celebrate Christmas.

Good thing that billion dollars is being invested so well on our behalf, isn't it?

I'm waiting for a resolution on Hanukkah now. Orrin?

Dep't. of It's All a Plot: Mayor Calls President A Muslim

By GottaLaff

http://mymerrychristmas.com/images/CharlieBrownChristmas.jpg

Not only is President Barack Black Hussein Muslim Obama, the Black Muslim president who is black and Muslim, declaring War on Christmas, he's picking on Charlie Brown specifically! What a dog. What a cur. What a... joke:
The mayor of a suburban Memphis city accused President Barack Obama of deliberately timing his speech about the war in Afghanistan this week to block the airing of the "Peanuts" Christmas television special.
Then, following in Barbie McLipSchmutz's footsteps, he posted on his Facebook page. You think he has a ghost blogger, too?
"We sit the kids down to watch 'The Charlie Brown Christmas Special' and our muslim president is there, what a load. ... Try to convince me that wasn't done on purpose," he wrote, according to the newspaper.
He's right about one thing: What a load.

Rightie uproar over Best Buy’s ‘Happy Eid al-Adha’ wish to Muslims

By GottaLaff

Best Buy had the nerve--the nerve!-- to wish Muslims a public “Happy Eid al-Adha” in one of its circulars. And in such a conspicuously large font too! Why, one can nearly read that without the aid of a magnifying glass! How dare they!

Spreading cheer like that should be outlawed! Outlawed, I say!
And now the Twin Cities-based retailer is facing a boycott by commenters at the rightwing Free Republic forum. [...]

Now Wonkette reports that Freepers are incensed that the company would give a holiday shout-out to members of the globe’s second-largest religion.

Aw come on, to think that people of the Freepitude ilk would ever get incensed about something so holiday cheery is preposterous! Oh, wait.

It's good to know that they only share good tidings with those who fall in line with their own narrow beliefs. That's the spirit! Way to make this a small world after all.

Yes, nothing says love thy neighbor like jamming Best Buy's customer forums, as well as their own Freeper free-for-alls. Examples:

To: UB355

Time to hit the best buy weekly ad forum:

Let them know how you feel.

To: DataDink

I hope Drudge picks this up. Then the story will go mainstream.

And:

Commenter “wally_bert” writes: “BB is a Mpls company. Mpls is overrun with ragheads.”

Other commenters were more open-minded.

Happy freakin' holidays.

AUDIO- Laffy on the radio: Palin, ACORN, War on Christmas, more

By GottaLaff

If you missed it, I was on the Radio Machine with the absolutely wonderful Angie Coiro (on San Francisco's progressive station Green 960) Friday night, discussing all kinds of topically topical topics.

I now have a regular radio spot with her every Friday night at 6:45 Pacific!

As Angie's special correspondent and demented sidekick Buttercup, I bring her silly stories along with serious ones every week, and whatever else happens to pop up in the week's news.

The C-Word

By GottaLaff

http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2009-11/50535622.jpg
"Go Christmas, go Hanukkah, go Kwanzaa, go solstice," chant dancers in a Gap ad, released days after the American Family Assn. called for a boycott over Gap's "failure to use the word 'Christmas.' " (Gap)

The holiday season is here! How do we know that? Because whether you realize it or not, the evil War on Christmas has been declared... again! Yes. It's true. Don your helmets, grab your anti-atheist light sabers, and join the fight. Be all that you can be!
The Mississippi-based American Family Assn. last week issued a fatwa against Gap Inc. -- the retailing giant whose brands include Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic -- calling for a "two-month boycott over the company's failure to use the word 'Christmas' in its advertising to Christmas shoppers."
That does it. Where's my I Pound Beers for Jesus tee shirt?
The War on Christmas season has officially begun. [...]

And they say nobody likes fruitcake.
http://webpages.charter.net/micah/repjesus83.gif
It would be easy to get sidetracked into debating the merits of the War on Christmas. Why, for example, is the phrase "Happy holidays" so insufferable to Christian fundamentalists, but not the vulgar, surfeiting exploitation of Christ's name to sell smokeless ashtrays, dessert toppings, Droid phones and trampolines? [...]

And since China is in the news this week: Why not go after Gap and other retailers for trading in Chinese-made goods, since the Chinese government actively oppresses the Christian faith?
Don't be silly. That makes way too much sense. Who'd ever think that logically? Blind faith is the answer! Reason be damned.

http://www.evangelicalright.com/raisingthetree.jpg

Nothing says religious devotion better than our brave men and women being sent out to battle wearing these:
Meanwhile, both Old Navy and Gap sell Christmas-themed merchandise, such as Christmas boxer shorts, which I'm sure can only be removed in the sanctity of marriage.
I wonder if Bill-O wears them. After all, they are part of the official War on Christmas uniform.

Or is he wiggling out of them (wink) under the pretense that he's a "briefs" kinda guy? We already know he's a loofah kinda guy.

http://bringontheendtimes.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/war-on-christmas.jpg
The big loser here is the AFA. The annual War-on-Christmas drumbeat is absolutely not about defending the sacredness of Christmas. It is instead -- transparently -- marketing, a ratings gambit for Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, and for the AFA, the centerpiece of its annual fundraising.
Why-- sputter, sputter!-- that's positively sacrilegious!

I bet Gap employees secretly whisper sweet blasphemies in each others ears.
This year, thanks to Gap, the AFA fumbled its boycott ball and in the process managed to look both intolerant and out of touch.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Happy holidays!

Washington State ends 'holiday' display mayhem in its capitol

Seems like Billo's bs ruined it for everyone!! I would have liked to see the FSM display though.

Washington state officials placed a moratorium late Friday on permitting any more holiday displays inside the Capitol this year.

An atheists' sign placed near a Nativity scene sparked a controversy after commentators on Fox News drew attention to it. Afterward, Gov. Chris Gregoire's office was flooded with nearly 15,000 phone calls from people nationwide who opposed the sign.

The moratorium in effect denies space to several requests, including one for a sign that says "Santa Claus will take you to Hell" and a "Festivus" pole. Festivus is a mock holiday popularized by the "Seinfeld" sitcom in the 1990s.

(snip)

The decision came a day after a formal application from the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, which asked to include a message that included references to Santa, rape and "God's hate." Other requests that will be rejected under the moratorium is a Kansas group's request for a "Flying Spaghetti Monster" display, which is meant as a parody of creationism; a Buddhist request for a display; and a Christian goodwill message to atheists.

Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly yell at each other over atheism

Link: Or kelly

The only time I've ever linked to Hot Air, and damn well worth it. Christine Gregoire as Pontius Pilot? You go Bill.
Surprise fireworks as FNC’s most combative anchor tries to explain the First Amendment to its most combative commentator. Good luck, Megyn!
