Update on Washington cop killer

Here's a quick MSNBC update on the Washington cop killer:

He was shot dead earlier, as has been reported. On his body was one of the policemen's guns. More have been arrested for aiding and abetting him, helping him get away.

Meanwhile, the punditiots are insinuating that Mike Huckabee is toast.

"We didn't have any information from the prosecutor," sez HuckaHole. And then he goes on to blame everyone else. Poor Huck, he's in deep and is trying so very hard to dig out. Diggity dig dig. Just like a prairie dog.

"It's not your fault," says Bill-O. He's so compassionate and open-minded, isn't he? How could we have misjudged him?

First openly gay US attorney begins job in Washington State

When I get grumbly and cranky over Obama not doing some stuff, I have to remember this kind of thing would have never happened under McCain. Sometimes you have to celebrate the little victories as well.

SEATTLE -- The new top federal prosecutor in Seattle knows the significance her role carries for many people: She's apparently the nation's first openly gay U.S. attorney.

But as a daughter of privilege - her dad was a powerful Democratic state senator, and she had all the benefits of a comfortable upbringing and a good education - Jenny Durkan also recalls what someone once told her: "You're the most non-diverse diverse person I know."

"I don't think I can fully appreciate how important it is to many people to have someone in a role like this who is gay," Durkan said this week in an interview with The Associated Press. "The more people are able to see people in situations where pretty soon that's an invisible characteristic, the better it is for the entire community."

Gay rights activists say her appointment reflects a growing acceptance in the U.S. as well as the attitude of President Barack Obama's administration. Earlier this month, Obama nominated an openly gay police sergeant to be the U.S. marshal in Minneaopolis; she would be the first openly gay U.S. marshal.

Washington State ends 'holiday' display mayhem in its capitol

Seems like Billo's bs ruined it for everyone!! I would have liked to see the FSM display though.

Washington state officials placed a moratorium late Friday on permitting any more holiday displays inside the Capitol this year.

An atheists' sign placed near a Nativity scene sparked a controversy after commentators on Fox News drew attention to it. Afterward, Gov. Chris Gregoire's office was flooded with nearly 15,000 phone calls from people nationwide who opposed the sign.

The moratorium in effect denies space to several requests, including one for a sign that says "Santa Claus will take you to Hell" and a "Festivus" pole. Festivus is a mock holiday popularized by the "Seinfeld" sitcom in the 1990s.

The decision came a day after a formal application from the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, which asked to include a message that included references to Santa, rape and "God's hate." Other requests that will be rejected under the moratorium is a Kansas group's request for a "Flying Spaghetti Monster" display, which is meant as a parody of creationism; a Buddhist request for a display; and a Christian goodwill message to atheists.

Poll: Obama surges in Colorado, makes gains on Electoral Map

Now what was the McCain pollster blabbing on about this afternoon? Oh, yeah, nothing. Watch the video above and see if you can figure it out.

(CNN) — Does the road to the White House run through the Rocky Mountains? A new state poll in Colorado suggests that Barack Obama has doubled his lead over John McCain there, as the Democratic nominee claims more territory on CNN’s Electoral Map.

Washington State is also being moved from lean Obama to safe Obama, though that move doesn't change the electoral count. The CNN Electoral College map is an estimate of what could occur if the election were held today. State polls, voting trends, campaign visits and advertising, are among the factors used in deciding the electoral college map.

A CNN/Time/ORC poll released Wednesday also suggests that Obama is holding on to a strong lead in Virginia, with 53 percent of those questioned backing Obama and 44 percent supporting McCain. That 9 point lead is down from a 10 point lead Obama held in our last poll conducted in Virginia last week. No Democrat has won Virginia in a presidential contest since Lyndon Johnson carried the state in 1964.

Political Wire got an advance look at two new Strategic Vision polls that will be formally released tomorrow.

• Pennsylvania: Obama leads McCain, 49% to 40%.
  
• Washington: Obama leads McCain, 48% to 37%

The margin of error is +/- 3 points in Pennsylvania and +/- 3.5 points in Washington. Both surveys were conducted July 25-27.

Washington State Republicans Won't Identify Their Party In Ads (Or Ballot)

Hahahahaha. Snort, cackle and a hearty guffaw. Big old hat tip to mainsailset. Sorry for the Fox video, but it's well worth it.

I can't recall the last time I heard the state Democratic Party highlighting a Fox News video, but they want to make sure you see this one.

It highlights the fact that 28 Republicans are going by GOP, no party, or some other term on the state's new "Top Two" primary ballot.

Among the folks in the video: Spokane County Republican chairman Curt Fackler, whose running for state insurance commissioner with no party designation listed.
