Wingnut e-mail links wearing Obama tee shirts to crime

By GottaLaff

Via Wonkette, the latest in jaw-dropping wingnut lunacy:

The above was part of an e-mail, sent to most members of Congress. Wonkette has the other part.

"There MUST be a message here, but I can't quite grasp it." Hey, know why?

1. If this is the kind of thing you send around, you can't grasp much of anything.

2. The only message "here" is that there were whole a lot of Obama tee shirts out "there". He won. By a landslide. Remember?

3. People who get hauled in also wear lots of other tee shirts with lots of other logos. Deeper meaning? I. Don't. Think. So.

4. Seriously? A Nixon/Ike/Ford/St. Ronnie/Dole shirt? Really? Those exist? And if they did, who'd wear them, this guy?

Bob Dole tee shirt indeed.

PhotOh! Billboards of hate against President Obama

By GottaLaff

My pal John over at the Daily Beast sent me a link to what freedom of speech means to some people via a post by John Avlon.

I'm including samples of the handiwork, but please go here for the rest:

As the leaked GOP PowerPoint prompts outrage, its scare tactics are field-tested on America's highways. John Avlon—author of Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe Is Hijacking America, [...] on the grassroots campaign to poison the president.

[T]ake a tour of just one dozen examples of what happens when Obama Derangement Syndrome imposes itself on roadside America. Warning: Wingnuttery Ahead.
This classic from on U.S. 63 near West Plains, Missouri.

This sign appeared in Henderson, North Carolina—the hometown of PBS’ Charlie Rose—until public outcry led the owner to take it down in October ’08. Obama won the state.

[This] appears to have been endorsed by the Lafayette County Republican Central Committee—cause nothing says patriotism like overturning democratic elections with an armed insurrection.

HuffPostNews Twitter Hacked By Crude Rightie Wingnuts

By GottaLaff

Some wingnuts hacked the HuffPost Twitter account and gave a few of us some free advertising. I must say, being promo'd as an elite lefty has made my day... not to mention the resulting uptick in followers.

Oh, and then there's the screengrab (above) that made it to Mediaite. Nice publicity, courtesy of a self-proclaimed conservative with a limited vocabulary derived from that of drunk eighth graders who stubbed their toes after having just been grounded following a rejection by the objects of their lust.

I really must remember to send a thank you note to those thoughtful little hackers, whoever they are.

"You should go to some city that's a little more Klan friendly"

By GottaLaff

http://media.canada.com/24be34eb-ecfe-4969-88c2-5aa898db4139/Obama_hitler_treatment.jpg

Mr. Laffy went to the market today. As he entered, he noticed a tall, young, blond-haired man and a spaced-out-looking twentysomething woman standing next to a poster of Obama. The poster read, "I've changed", and depicted President Obama with a Hitler mustache. The young man rattled on, saying something about Lyndon LaRouche, but Mr. Laffy was so put off that he cut him short.

One reason (other than the obvious) Mr. Laffy was so taken aback was that this was a highly unusual occurrence in our neck of the woods. The guy wanted to talk to him some more, but Mr. Laffy interrupted with, "I don't talk to people who have pictures of Obama with a Hitler mustache."

Hitler Guy retorted, brimming with wit, "Well, then he should shave it!"

Mr. Laffy SO wanted to mock him with, "Well if you like it so much, why don't you marry it?" But he took the high road.

Instead, Mr. Laffy retorted, "You picked the wrong town to put up a picture like that. You should go to some city that's a little more Klan friendly," and went inside to shop. As he walked away, he heard the blond man say, "A lot of people are listening to us."

Mr. L went straight to the store manager and told him that he hated being accosted like that, and could he do anything? The manager said, "There's no law against it, we can't prevent them from standing there. Maybe if enough people complain to the county supervisor or other local representative, maybe they could pass some kind of law."

While we wait for that to happen, wingnuts continue to hang out at our grocery stores and harass people with their vile hatred.

Happy Saturday.

David Shuster: "I'm getting a lot of threats"

By GottaLaff

A Tweet from David Shuster:

As amusing as he might think this is, we care and worry for him.

Hang in there, David, and keep up the good work.

As for the wingnuts, this kind of thing has to stop. It's already way out of hand, and David Shuster isn't the only one I worry about.

Snark Attack- VIDEO: America's Message To Wingnuts

By GottaLaff

Via Lee Stranahan:

Transcript:

This is a message to America's wingnuts, rednecks and the last few remaining Republicans on earth

Between trying to destroy health care reform, getting kridazy about Obama's birth certificate, worrying about Acorn, getting off wth your Sarah Palin poster, admitting to affairs, randomly saying the pledge of allegiance, waiting for the end times, refusing to comply with the census, refusing stimulus money, pretending to hang people, actually shooting people, watching Glenn Beck, reading Glenn Beck and being Glenn Beck....

Don't you have you enough on your plate?

America would like to ask you to slow down and just focus on 2 or 3 crazy things....hopefully the ones that don't kill people...

Imagine how many affairs you could admit to if you just applied yourself?
Excellent.

VIDEO-- Michael Steele: I agree with Rush Limbaugh

By GottaLaff

One thing you can say about Michael Steele: He's dependable. You can always count on him for some ridiculous quotitude:

Steele's Republican party is increasingly inhospitable to its moderate members. Asked on NPR's All Things Considered if other moderate Republicans with similar voting records - including former Sens. Chuck Hagel (NE), Gordon Smith (OR), and John Warner (VA), would be "left of [the] Republican Party today" - Steele suggested that was the case. "They are to the left on some very critical issues that are fundamental to our- some of our core beliefs," Steele said.

Indeed, when Congress passed the Recovery Act with the support of Specter and Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Steele threatened to retaliate against them the next time they were up for reelection. Snowe wrote yesterday in the New York Times that in response to such threats from Steele and litmus tests imposed on them by the right wing, moderate Republicans often "get the distinct feeling that you’re no longer welcome in the tribe."

That must have been a slip of the tongue. I'm sure Snowe meant to say "no longer welcome to the tripe".

Redstate says President Obama made a "world class gaffe"

By GottaLaff

I discovered this one as I was checking referrals (links) on TPC's SiteMeter, which led me straight to:

American President thinks ‘Austrian’ is a language

President Barack Obama made a world-class gaffe in front of the entire planet’s press during his news conference in Strasbourg, France. Here’s an excerpt from the transcript released by the White House on April 4, 2009. Notice the part which I have put in bold type: [...]
It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There’s a lot of — I don’t know what the term is in Austrian — wheeling and dealing — and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.
Then the post and the commenters went on to ridicule and demean President Obama to their lack-of-hearts' content. They amuse themselves so easily.

The problem is, had they done one ounce (it took me about five seconds) of research, they would have discovered this:
Austrian German (Österreichisches Deutsch, Austrian Standard German) is the national standard variety of the German language spoken in Austria and in South Tyrol. The standardized form of Austrian German for official texts and schools is defined by the Austrian dictionary (Österreichisches Wörterbuch), published under the authority of the ministry of education, art and culture.
There is even Austrian sign language. Of course, their source says this:
German is the official language of Austria.
Now then. Just because it is categorized as the "official" language doesn't mean that German is the only language spoken in Austria. My source, and others I Googled, confirm that. And one of those languages is Austrian German. Austrian. As in... Austrian.

So, Prez O wasn't gaffey after all, as their howls of stupid say he was.

They also whined and moaned about how maligned Sarah Palin was for her, er, ignorance. 'Nuff said.

But the real issue isn't quibbling over Obama's accuracy, or whose source is better. The real issue is...

This is all they've got. It's even worse than what they had the last time I said, "This is all they've got." They're down to the mere essence of "all they've got". It's not even a whiff. In fact, it's barely "all they've got" hope.

And if there is one adjective that nobody, but nobody, can pin on Obama, it's "ignorant".

The Rushpublics are empty. Barren. Pathetic.

Oh, and finally, let's not forget these two words-worth of rightie genius:

George Bush.

Chief Justice publicly accepts Obama eligibility petition

By GottaLaff

You have got to be kidding. I posted about the "birthers" Friday the Thirteenth petition, and as you see in the video above, Rachel Maddow covered the story that day. Guess what: The Supremes accepted a petition from World Net Daily:

World Net Daily - A California attorney lobbying the U.S. Supreme Court for a review of Barack Obama's qualifications to be president confronted the chief justice yesterday with legal briefs and a WND petition bearing names of over 325,000 people asking the court to rule on whether or not the sitting president fulfills the Constitution's "natural-born citizen" clause.
First of all, 325,000? I wonder how many of those were legitimate. But that aside, and someone fill me in here, is the Court required to accept petitions like these? Or does this hint at taking seriously, and possibly even the potential acceptance, of these wingnutcases' obsession?

On the lighter side, check out the melodramatic description of events:
According to Orly Taitz, the attorney who confronted Chief Justice John Roberts at a lecture at the University of Idaho, the judge promised before the gathered crowd that he would, indeed, read and review the briefs and petition. [...]

Earlier in the week, Taitz confronted Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who told her the issue of Obama's eligibility, which has been raised before the Supreme Court at least four times but has yet to be given a single hearing, still lacked the votes of the required four justices in conference before it would be officially heard. [...]

"Tell me what to do, what can I do?" Taitz reports asking Scalia. "Those soldiers [her plaintiffs] can be court-martialed for asking a legitimate question, who is the president, is he legitimate?"

She says Scalia responded, "Bring the case, I'll hear it, I don't know about others." [...]

"I said, 'Justice Roberts, my name is Orly Taitz. I'm an attorney from California, and I got up at 3 o'clock in the middle of the night, flew and drove thousands of miles just to ask you a question. So please give me some leeway,'" Taitz told WND. "My question is, do you know there is illegal activity going on in the Supreme Court of the United States?"

According to Taitz, the room was stunned silent as she continued, "I have presented my case to you, and you personally agreed to hear this case in conference. But your clerk refused to forward a supplemental brief to you. He has hidden this brief from you. He refused to put it on the docket. Additionally, my case was erased from the docket one day after the Inauguration, two days before my case was to be heard.

"Outraged citizens and members of the media and state representatives are calling the Supreme Court, demanding to have the case reentered on the docket," Taitz told Roberts.

Then she held up the WND petition and continued, "Moreover, here are the names of U.S. citizens who signed this petition and who sent individual letters to individual justices, including you, Justice Roberts, all of them demanding the same thing – that you hear my case in regards to Barack Hussein Obama's eligibility for presidency."

According to Taitz, Roberts approached the microphone and said, "I see you have papers. I promise you I will read all your papers, I will review them. Please give them to my Secret Service and I will review all of them."

Shortly thereafter, Taitz told WND, a Secret Service agent identified by his badge as Gilbert Shaw accepted two suitcases of documents and pledged to deliver them to Roberts.

I need a talking down... not because I think this will go anywhere, but because the Chief Justice, if this is accurate, is in reality, the Chief Twit.

Ugly Churchill Bust + President Obama = WingNut Frenzy

By GottaLaff

Would you want a bust in your home that looks like this...

http://epstein.3forming.com/Assets/Images/Misc/itemGalleryFull/Winston%20Churchill.jpg
...which kind of reminds you of this:
http://hcl.harvard.edu/hfa/images/films/1999junaug/mummy.jpg
Let's go one step further and two steps deeper. It's also reminiscent of this...
Being a strong proponent of Britain as an international power, Churchill would often meet such moments with direct action. One example was his dispatch of British troops to Kenya to deal with the Mau Mau rebellion.
...which hits home because of this:
Barack Obama’s grandfather was imprisoned and brutally tortured by the British during the violent struggle for Kenyan independence, according to the Kenyan family of the US President-elect.

Hussein Onyango Obama, Mr Obama’s paternal grandfather, became involved in the Kenyan independence movement while working as a cook for a British army officer after the war. He was arrested in 1949 and jailed for two years in a high-security prison where, according to his family, he was subjected to horrific violence to extract information about the growing insurgency.

The African warders were instructed by the white soldiers to whip him every morning and evening till he confessed,” said Sarah Onyango, Hussein Onyango’s third wife, the woman Mr Obama refers to as “Granny Sarah”.
In other words, President Obama may be remembering this:
Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill’s second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya’s Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President’s grandfather.
...which could have been a factor in President Obama's returning the bust (other than the fact that it is ugly as sin, and after all, it is his house)...

... which leads us to a 9/11-infused reaction from The Land of Wingnuttia that sounds a little something like this:
Barack Obama loves Lincoln. [...] But it looks like we are finding one great leader that Barack Obama doesn't like so much: Winston Churchill.

It appears that President Obama is dissing the Brit's most famous and stalwart leader by quickly returning the most famous bust of the man loaned to this country by the United Kingdom in the aftermath of 9/11. The return of the bust of Churchill flustered the British government because they didn't ask for it to be returned. Our best ally was nonplussed and even quickly told Obama he could keep it in the Oval Office where Bush had displayed the piece of art. Obama told them no thanks which made the Brits even more amazed.

So, Barack Obama, the man that would "fix" our "bad image" with the rest of the world, we were told by the media, has just dissed Churchill after only a month in office? [...]

I mean, this abrupt return of the Churchill statue is sort of odd. Would it have hurt anything to keep the thing?

...which resulted in Comments like these:
  • Obviously, he had to make space for a bust of Ayatollah Khomeini.
  • Naw, he is probably shopping for busts of Fredrick Engles or Karl Marx.
  • Obama has a room in the White House with nothing but Che statues. He has coffee with them in the morning...
  • It is Barak [sic] Obama, not GWB, that is proving to be the real dunce in the White House, go figure.
  • Obama wasn't dissin' the Brits. He was just making room for the bust of the First Lady.
If the president hopes to bring us together as "one America", he sure has his work cut out for him.

Dear Iran, Let's talk. Sincerely, President Obama

By GottaLaff

UPDATE: During his daily press briefing, Robert Gibbs just said that State didn't request such a letter, nor did anyone else. Another media report debunked.

Even if Iran doesn't respond the way we'd like, this is the right thing to do:
The Obama administration has "drafted a letter to Iran from the president aimed at unfreezing US-Iranian relations and opening the way for face-to-face talks," the Guardian has learned.

"Diplomats said Obama's letter would be a symbolic gesture to mark a change in tone from the hostile one adopted by the Bush administration, which portrayed Iran as part of an 'axis of evil'. It would be intended to allay the suspicions of Iran's leaders and pave the way for Obama to engage them directly, a break with past policy."
Desire for a break with past policy is exactly why Obama was elected. But the Republicans are politically deaf and continue to push Bush policies, ignoring the smoking wreckage around them.

Follow along as the righties continue to flock to Lord Rush, fawning over him, awaiting each shriek-out of their freak-out: See? See?? Obama's pallin' around with terrorists! He's a Muslim! He hates Israel! He's weak! Why, he's not even an American citizen!

Watching their heads explode over President Obama's impressive efforts will become a regular source of entertainment. Welcome to Wingnut Theatre starring the Dittohead Players. Popcorn available via the lobby(ists).

So much for GOP talking points: President Obama has gotten under Al Qaeda's skin

By GottaLaff

What is it the righties were saying about Barack Hussein Obama being Al Qaeda's choice for president? And who was it again, who added to their numbers? Looks like the GOP has been the party that contributed to the terrorist cause. Why do they hate America?

Soon after the November election, al-Qaeda's No. 2 leader took stock of America's new president-elect and dismissed him with an insulting epithet. "A house Negro," Ayman al-Zawahiri said.

That was just a warm-up. In the weeks since, the terrorist group has unleashed a stream of verbal tirades against Barack Obama, each more venomous than the last. Obama has been called a "hypocrite," a "killer" of innocents, an "enemy of Muslims." He was even blamed for the Israeli military assault on Gaza, which began and ended before he took office.

"He kills your brothers and sisters in Gaza mercilessly and without affection," an al-Qaeda spokesman declared in a grainy Internet video this month.

The torrent of hateful words is part of what terrorism experts now believe is a deliberate, even desperate, propaganda campaign against a president who appears to have gotten under al-Qaeda's skin. The departure of George W. Bush deprived al-Qaeda of a polarizing American leader who reliably drove recruits and donations to the terrorist group. [...]

[F][or now, the change in Washington appears to have rattled al-Qaeda's leaders, some of whom are scrambling to convince the faithful that Obama and Bush are essentially the same.

Paul Pillar, a former CIA counterterrorism official who lectures on national security at Georgetown University:
"For al-Qaeda, as a matter of image and tone, George W. Bush had been a near-perfect foil." [...] [A]consensus view supported Republican Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) as the man most likely to continue Bush administration policies and, it was hoped, drive the United States more deeply into a prolonged guerrilla war.
Once again, the Republican party line is contradicted by the facts. Hey wingnuts, how does it feel to have your former president and presidential candidate supported by Al Qaeda? Kinda puts a dent in one of your main talking points, doesn't it?

Say Buh-Bye to Idiotic Republican Obama Birth Certificate Lawsuit

By GottaLaff

Via Oliver Willis. From the Dep't. of Neener Nanner:

A federal judge in Philadelphia last night threw out a complaint by a Montgomery County lawyer who claimed that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was not qualified to be president and that his name should be removed from the Nov. 4 ballot.

Philip J. Berg alleged in a complaint filed in federal district court on Aug. 21 against Obama, the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission, that Obama was born in Mombasa, Kenya.

Berg claimed that the Democratic presidential standardbearer is not even an American citizen but a citizen of Indonesia and therefore ineligible to be president.

He alleged that if Obama was permitted to run for president and subsequently found to be ineligible, he and other voters would be disenfranchised.

U.S. District Judge R. Barclay Surrick had denied Berg’s request for a temporary restraining order on Aug. 22 but had not ruled on the merits of the suit until yesterday. [...]

In a 34-page memorandum and opinion, the judge said Berg’s allegations of harm were “too vague and too attenuated” to confer standing on him or any other voters.

Surrick ruled that Berg’s attempts to use certain laws to gain standing to pursue his claim that Obama was not a natural-born citizen were “frivolous and not worthy of discussion.”

The judge also said the harm Berg alleged did “not constitute an injury in fact” and Berg’s arguments to the contrary “ventured into the unreasonable.

To all the Commenters who have been asking about it, that should finally put the matter to rest.

H/t: Chris

Man Names Baby Sarah McCain Palin

Wonder how many kids were named Thomas Dewey. Can't you report this crap to Child Protective Services?

A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.

Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl's birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.

"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. "It's going to take some more convincing."

Oh, so the wife doesn't know? Good luck dude. h/t John Cole.

"The victory cry is heard across the land..."

By Paddy

John Cole finds a crazy cookie-

An Obama presidency would signal the final salvo by the Left in the culture wars. Obama’s advance troops have already taken over our college campuses, have bound and gagged our conservative professors, have ravished our virgins, have pillaged our stores of wisdom, and have ensconced themselves in the thrones of power in deans’, presidents’ and department heads’ offices.

The victory cry is heard across the land in the cheers of Obama’s constituency on college campuses.
