Tea party spazs seek recall of sitting Democratic senators

This is one of those "if only they used their power for good" moments. What a waste of time and money.

Republicans' chances to retake the Senate are limited by the fact that only a third of the chamber is up for re-election this year, but some conservative activists are pushing to force more Democrats onto the ballot in November by trying to recall them.

It's a long-shot approach, the legal hurdles are tremendous - no member of Congress has ever been recalled - and it's limited only to states with recall laws that are broad enough to include federal officeholders.

But the first test comes Tuesday, when a judge will hear oral arguments from the Sussex County Tea Party, which is trying to recall Sen. Robert Menendez, New Jersey Democrat.

"Nine states, including 12 Democratic senators who are not up for re-election otherwise, could all be on the ballot with a recall," said Peter Ferrara, a lawyer for the conservative American Civil Rights Union, which is helping the tea partiers with their case. "Given what they're doing on health care this year, that's just going to be a huge boost to the recall effort."

GOP raises $14 million in one night for 2010

They're trying very hard.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Monday evening’s high-profile Republican fundraising dinner yielded approximately $14 million, according to a joint statement released by congressional Republican leaders.

The event, which featured former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as the headliner, raised about $7.25 million for Senate Republicans and $7.2 million for House GOP candidates.

“As we look forward to the 2010 election cycle, we understand what’s at stake and the principles that we are fighting for on behalf of voters across the country,” said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The annual joint fundraising dinner occupied political headlines in the run-up to Monday evening, because of a continuing controversy over whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin would attend the event after she declined earlier this year to be the main speaker. Palin was expected to be in the audience.

Limbaugh fires back at Steele

Giants in their own minds.

(CNN) – Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh fired back at Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele Monday, suggesting on his radio show the GOP leader appears to be supporting President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"Why do you claim to lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it President Obama succeeds?" Limbaugh addressed Steele.

"I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda. I have to conclude that he does because he attacks me for wanting it to fail," said Limbaugh.

Late last week, Steele told CNN's D.L. Hughley that Limbaugh is an "entertainer" whose comments are "ugly."

You Decide

I went looking for this after hearing Sharpton on MSNBC, figured I'd decide for myself. My first inclination was to err on the side of the cartoonist, that maybe he was just implying that the bill was so bad that it could have been written by a bunch of monkeys, but after I dug around looking at some more of the guys work, I'm not so sure.

The cartoon (by Sean Delonas) comes in the wake of yesterday's national news story about the cop who shot and killed a rampaging chimp in Connecticut. But the controversy in the comic comes from the dialogue between the two officers -- which reads, "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

Before most of you woke up, Sharpton already fired off a statement saying, "The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."
**Click on the pic if you want to see it bigger, it's too crude and badly done to take up more pixels on our page.

ADDED- Here's the vid I heard of Sharpton talking about it.

Pat Robertson Vs Rush Limbaugh

Oh my, doncha know the Great Greasy One™ will bust a vein over this. From an interview by US News & World Report-

So you don't subscribe to Rush Limbaugh's "I hope he fails" school of thought?

That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he's the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn't, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally.
That's what happens when you pickle your brain in 100% high quality Hillbilly Heroin Pat.

Interior Dept. rule allowing guns in national parks may violate White House directive

By GottaLaff

This administration is so stupid that not once but twice, it violated its own directives:

Earlier this month, the Department of Interior overturned a Reagan-era regulation, allowing loaded firearms at most national park sites such as the National Mall. Yesterday, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sued the administration, saying the rule “jeopardizes the safety of park visitors in violation of federal law.”
This news release notes the violation by Interior. Here's the gist of it:

The suit charges that the Interior Department violated several federal laws in its rush to implement the rule before President Bush leaves office, including failing to conduct any environmental review of the harm that the rule will cause, as is required by the National Environmental Policy Act. The Department also violated a White House directive that no rules should be issued after November 1, 2008, except in “extraordinary circumstances,” issuing the last-minute rule change on December 10, 2008.

BushCo's One Big Important Accomplishment: It's the administration that violates its own directives better than any other!

Campaign Falsehoods Linger On

Sometime I really wonder about the intelligence of this country.

  • 40: Percent of Americans who believe McCain would keep troops in Iraq for 100 years
  • 52: Percent of Americans who believe Obama will raise taxes on most small businesses
  • 2 in 5: Americans who think that McCain planned to cut over $800 billion in Medicare payments
  • Nearly 1 in 5: Americans who believe Obama is a Muslim
  • 46: Percent of Americans who agree that Saddam Hussein played a role in 9/11

Fox 5 Buys Second Loaded Blackberry from McCain Campaign

By GottaLaff

Oh noes! Not another Big Oops! Imagine this kind of carelessness had ::shudder:: Gramm-pa been elected president and been responsible for the entire nation's security:
Personal information for a former Virginia Governor is one of more than 300 'contacts' listed inside a second Blackberry phone purchased by FOX 5 during a fire sale at the McCain-Palin headquarters this week. [...]

FOX 5 has bought a second phone from the McCain campaign which contains even more information: photos from the Republican Convention, a personal calendar for campaign events leading up to the campaign, and more than 260 'contacts' full of personal emails, phone numbers and addresses for McCain supporters.

Included in those numbers was the personal cell phone number for former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore.

FOX 5 called Gilmore on his cell phone.

“It makes me quite uncomfortable,” he says, because, “it’s a matter of principle. I gave that information to McCain headquarters and to have it sold is bothersome.”
"Bothersome"? As in, "Revelations of felonious behavior can be so 'bothersome', can't they..."? Or, "Affairs in public bathroom stalls are so 'bothersome', aren't they..."?

We’ve also started to receive emails from people claiming to have also purchased a Blackberry phones full of private campaign information. One man told us the info on his phone was “mind blowing.”

"Mind blowing"? As in Rod Blagojevich mind-blowing? Mark Foley mind-blowing? Richard Nixon mind-blowing? Choosing Also Palin as a running mate mind-blowing?

The McCain campaign told FOX 5, “It was an unfortunate staff error and procedures are being put in place to ensure all information is secure."

"Unfortunate staff error"? As in, "Oops! I hope they don't share those nuclear secrets..."? Or, "Oh great. Now I'll have to give up my coke habit..."?

“You don't know who got this information,” he says. “There's possible harassment. And there's an enormous amount of campaign intelligence that shouldn't be sold for such a low-value."
Now that's bothersome. The profit margin was way too low. Damn. Never mind that pesky recession. Better up the price next time.

Deepak Chopra Smacks Sean Hannity

Right on his pointy nose. Above is the video that Chopra is referencing where Hannity took what Chopra said and put it thru the Republican Mind Blender. I wish I were a cartoonist, because this just begs for illustration. Go read the whole thing, but here's the kicker-

I was hoping to come back on your show and have a reflective, intelligent dialogue, but perhaps the attack mode is the only way you know to make a living. The best excuse for your dishonest accusations against me is that you don't believe what you're saying. The far right has deflated, so you are there to pump it up with hot air. If you stop blowing, you'll be out of a job. I empathize.

More excellence in advertising

Really, this stuff is starting to get to me. Maybe I've watched too much "Mad Men", but who the hell came up with the idea that it would sell cars to show giddy women swooping up shoes that have fallen from the sky into the back of their vehicles. First, shoes falling from the sky? Second, they're not matched! All these women are doing is scooping up raggedy single shoes. I give up.

Disgust At 'Lego' Terrorist Toys

Did they really have to go there? Do little kids need to understand what a terrorist is, let alone a radical Islamist one? At least they're not official Lego products.

The toy mini-figures, made by American Will Chapman, includes a masked terrorist bandit with an assault rifle, grenade launcher and belt of explosives.

Shocked by the playthings, British Muslim organisation the Ramadhan Foundation has branded the figurines "absolutely disgusting".

Chief executive Mohammed Shafiq said the figures were "glorifying terrorism".

He said: "I don't think there's any difference between someone that shouts hatred through a megaphone and someone that creates a doll that glorifies terrorists.

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen hangs up on Obama... twice

Jeebus this woman is an idiot. Why not ask for a call back number to verify? She had to have some bud of hers call her up and recount "a story only both of them would know". Obama has more patience with this twit woman than I would. From a press release sent by the Congresswoman's office. (mispellings are direct from release)

"Miami, Florida --- Cong. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen thought it was a hoax when President-Elect Barak (sic) Obama called her twice today and she proceeded to hang up on him, twice.

"Ros-Lehtinen was working in her South Florida district when she received a call on her cell from a Chicago based phone number and an aide informed her that President-Elect Obama wished to speak to her. A gentleman sounding like Obama introduced himself when Ros-Lehtinen cut him off and said that 'I’m sorry but I think this is a joke from one of the South Florida radio stations known for these pranks' and hung up.

"A short time later, Cong. and Chief of Staff designate Rahm Emmanuel (sic) called Ileana and stated 'Ileana, I cannot believe that you hung up on the President-Elect.' Ros-Lehtinen told Rahm that she didn’t believe the call was legitimate and hung up on Emmanuel (sic).
The did, eventually, speak.

Obama license plates become target for New York thieves

The things people will steal...

GREAT NECK, N.Y. -- A Long Island Democratic supporter said he’s been driven to hide his OBAMA vanity license plates inside his car because people kept trying to steal them.

Great Neck resident Jonathan Lifschutz said he got the plates bearing the surname of the U.S. president-elect from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles days after the Jan. 26 South Carolina primary.

The 50-year-old financial analyst and former Hillary Clinton donor said would-be thieves tried prying off the plates and he even caught one man red-handed.

He joked the Empire State plates one day will be a collector’s item -- in someone else’s house.

So he’s taken them off his car and put his old plates back on.
