Black Katrina

By GottaLaff

I previously posted about BP's horrific Oil Volcano being "Big Oil's Katrina".

Editorial cartoonist extraordinaire, J.D. Crowe, has another name for it, and has graciously permitted me to post his work, "Black Katrina", which is powerful and beautifully executed:

A hurricane, as devastating as it is to humans and physical structures, is an act of natural cleansing. An earthy enema. An oil spill is poison. A man-made, toxic rape of Mother Nature.

Blaming President Obama for BP's (and maybe even Halliburton's) devastating blow to the ocean, wildlife, and the health and welfare of America, is also toxic, but not nearly as nightmarish as the current-- and future-- long term, filthy nightmare.

Other Palin Cartoon-O'-The-Day: "I'll interview myself"

By GottaLaff

Tom Toles had an excellent cartoon out today. Why, here it is now!

I wonder if Barbie McLipSchmutz will be able to answer herself. She better ask easy questions:

History Suggests Supreme Court Vote Before August

Excellent, I could use a good summer fight. Via Taegan-

CQ Politics: It's hard to predict exactly when President Obama might announce his nominee to replace David Souter on the Supreme Court. But if recent history is any guide, expect a Senate confirmation vote before Congress leaves for its August recess.

You Decide

I went looking for this after hearing Sharpton on MSNBC, figured I'd decide for myself. My first inclination was to err on the side of the cartoonist, that maybe he was just implying that the bill was so bad that it could have been written by a bunch of monkeys, but after I dug around looking at some more of the guys work, I'm not so sure.

The cartoon (by Sean Delonas) comes in the wake of yesterday's national news story about the cop who shot and killed a rampaging chimp in Connecticut. But the controversy in the comic comes from the dialogue between the two officers -- which reads, "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."

Before most of you woke up, Sharpton already fired off a statement saying, "The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."
**Click on the pic if you want to see it bigger, it's too crude and badly done to take up more pixels on our page.

ADDED- Here's the vid I heard of Sharpton talking about it.
