Puppet cleavage banned from Colorado Springs

Yeah! And while you're at it, get some pants on those pervy sexy time cartoons Rocky & Bullwinkle! Honestly, what more would expect from the fundie capital of the U.S.?

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Puppet cleavage has been ruled out for advertising posters in Colorado Springs bus shelters. Lamar Advertising rejected posters for a touring production of the Broadway show "Avenue Q" because they show the cleavage of a fuzzy pink puppet.

Lamar account executive Jeff Moore says the company takes a conservative approach in Colorado Springs. The city is known for its political conservatism, and some conservative Christian groups have headquarters in the city.

The poster has been replaced by one showing the face of another puppet.

Republicans Declare 2010 as Year of the Bible

Obviously because there is nothing more important in America right now. All our troops are home safe, trading flowers and off color jokes with our friends the Mexicans at the border, children dance and sing in the street (when they're not getting straight A's in Math and Science in our state of the art schools) and all of us live to be 100 under our everyone is equal health system. Amiright?

Rep. Paul Broun [R-GA] has introduced a resolution to encourage Obama to declare that 2010 is The Year Of The Bible. Now, excuse me if I'm wrong about this, but I thought 2010 was going to be the Year of the Tiger.

Source: Only 'Pro-Life' White House Officials Invited to Prayer Day Event

So, they set up an event, then dictated who could and could not attend, then bitched because no one attended? How in their warped little minds would it have worked for President Obama to attend then? Guess all their fauxrage was just that, a big fat fake.

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson scolded the White House for neglecting to send a representative to yesterday's National Day of Prayer event at the Capitol, but a source familiar with the situation said the Obama team didn't have much of a chance. That's because the event organizers stipulated that the White House representative had to be opposed to abortion rights, according to this source.

"The administration's representative had to be pro-life," says the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Nobody else was allowed to go."

National Day of Prayer Task Force Marketing and Media Manager Becky Armstrong declined to comment on the report. An E-mail message sent yesterday to Focus on the Family's vice president for media relations, Gary Schneeberger, went unreturned. The prayer day task force operates out of Focus's Colorado Springs headquarters and is chaired by Shirley Dobson, the wife of the Focus founder.

(snip)

But the well-placed source said the only Obama cabinet secretary to receive an invite to yesterday's event was Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, an anti-abortion rights Republican. LaHood did not attend the event.

Southern Baptist new baptisms drop

Seems to match up pretty well with the poll that shows America becoming less religious, and it couldn't happen to a more deserving sect.

NASHVILLE — Southern Baptist churches baptized fewer people in 2008 for the fourth year in a row to reach the lowest level since 1987, and membership in the country’s largest Protestant denomination fell slightly as well.

Baptisms dropped just over one percent to 342,198 last year, compared with 345,941 in 2007, according to an annual report released Thursday by LifeWay Christian Resources, the Southern Baptist Convention’s publishing arm.

Total membership of Southern Baptist churches was 16,228,438 last year, down nearly 38,400 from 2007.

The continued decline in the number of followers reflects a trend in other mainline Protestant churches. Non-denominational churches are gaining and the ranks of those unaffiliated with a church are growing.

Baptism in the Southern Baptist church is a public act administered by the local church in which new members agree to follow Christ. They are a key measurement of the SBC’s overall effectiveness in evangelism.

Pat Robertson Vs Rush Limbaugh

Oh my, doncha know the Great Greasy One™ will bust a vein over this. From an interview by US News & World Report-

So you don't subscribe to Rush Limbaugh's "I hope he fails" school of thought?

That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he's the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn't, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally.
That's what happens when you pickle your brain in 100% high quality Hillbilly Heroin Pat.

NBC rejects anti-choice ad using Obama

Idiots. Gotta covered why the video is a joke here.

A popular pro-life anti-choice video portraying President Obama as an unborn child has been rejected by NBC-TV as an ad during Sunday's Super Bowl.

"Imagine Spot 1," a YouTube video that has amassed more than 700,000 hits since its Jan. 2O premiere on Black Entertainment Television, was submitted earlier this week to NBC by Fidelis, a Chicago-based Catholic organization. Its subsidiary, CatholicVote.org, runs the 30-second spot on its Web site.

Man outraged by zoo's Buddha statues

This is why the GOP is shriveling up. Better keep an eye on those subversive Chinese restaurants...

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A patron at Missouri's Kansas City Zoo has complained about the zoo's Buddha statues, calling them "infuriating to God."

David Engle said he was shocked when he saw zoo visitors rubbing the heads and bellies of two smiling Buddha statues at the entrance to the zoo's Tiger Trail area while visiting the attraction with his family, the Kansas City Star reported Wednesday.

Engle, a Christian, described the presence of the statues as idolatry and "infuriating to God."

"We can't have a cross or a nativity scene on public property," the Overland Park, Kan., man said. "It is phenomenal to me that the zoo would put up Buddha statues."

Zoo Director Randy Wisthoff said Engle's complaint was the first he has received about the statues since they were purchased a few years ago to accent the Tiger Trail's Asian theme.

Gallup- Americans Believe Religion is Losing Clout

Oh please oh please oh please oh please!

PRINCETON, NJ -- Two-thirds of U.S. adults today perceive that the influence of religion in American life is waning, while just 27% believe it is rising. This represents a sharp decline in the image of religion compared with only three years ago, when 50% thought its influence was on an upswing, and marks one of the weakest readings on the influence of religion in Gallup's five-decade history of asking the question.

The percentage of Americans saying religion, as a whole, is increasing its influence on American life was 50% in April 2005, 39% in May 2006, 34% in May 2007, and 30% in May 2008. The 27% recorded in the new Dec. 4-7 Gallup Poll thus marks a continuation of the recent downward trend.

(snip)

Indeed, this measure of public perceptions about religion has been quite volatile over the forty-plus years of its existence, with shifts in perception often corresponding to major political events.

(snip)

Given this historical context, it is possible that the recent decline in perceptions that religion is increasing in influence is partially a result of the decline of Republican political strength throughout President George W. Bush's second term, a trend that was punctuated by the election of Democrat Barack Obama last month.

Anti-Choicers** Rip Rick Warren On Obama Invocation

Obama is talking right now about Warren, and I can tell you that he just doesn't get it. Wonder if the pro-lifers anti-choicers** will put enough pressure on Warren to get him to step down from the invocation? Here's some reactions from The Brody File-

From Dave:

I just lost a lot of respect for Rick Warren. How can someone who professes to be a Christian, put himself into a situation where other Christians would question him? Rick has done some good work however he just lost my respect.

From Larry:

I was saddened to read that Dr Warren will be praying at the inauguration. I different with him on almost all areas of theology, doctrine and church polity, though he holds himself out as a evangelical. I was devastated by the election. Not that a Democrat was elected, I'm more of a person not a party voter. Not that President Elect is a mixed race. I was devastated by a number of reasons and one grieves me most when I think of Dr Warren praying at the inauguration. As the result of one Supreme Court Decision, over 50 million babies have been murdered to date. The President Elect has in no uncertain terms pledged to continue the pro abortion agenda. How could around 54% of Catholics, 96% of African Americans, many who claim to be professing Bible Christians, @ 100% of Jewish Voters, who apparently have forgotten about the Holocaust and probably 50% or more of all kinds of other professing Bible Christians vote for the President Elect in light of his pro-abortion agenda? How? The same reason Dr Warren is going to pray at the inauguration. There is no real moral outrage in our Nation about Abortion. "Just words, just words," as the resident Elect said often in his campaign about his opposition. Words, but not real outrage and action.

From Pat:

This is terrible; this man call's himself a Christian????Barack H. Obama is the most PRO-DEATH president America has ever elected!!!!! He has said that as president he is going to pass the "Freedom of Choice Act" how can our country get any better with this type of MURDER?????? Mr. Warren school be ashamed of himself, protection of the unborn is the MOST IMPERATIVE issue as a Christian!!!!! For without life do we continue to have a society at all??? I think not!!!!!

God Bless & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More at the link if you can take it.

Added- Check out this diary from Kos on more of what the Anti-Choicers are saying.

Sam Brownback Will Step Down

Let's hope Kansas went blue enough in '08 to keep this holy roller out of the governor's mansion.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), who pledged he would only serve two terms in the U.S. Senate, will formally announce today that he won't seek a third term in 2010, the Kansas City Star reports.

Brownback, "who's been wrapping up a statewide tour lately, is widely expected to run for governor in 2010 to succeed Democrat Kathleen Sebelius, who is barred by law from seeking a third term."

However, a statement from Brownback's office warns that he "will not be making any announcements about his future at this time."

Bobby Jindal In Talks With Satan

The scary part is that this doesn't sound that far off the mark. From Weekly World News-

BATON ROUGE, LA - After their crushing defeat in November the Republican Party was left with no clear leader. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal hopes to fill the power vacuum, and has entered talks with Satan to do just that.

Jindal and his lawyers contacted the Prince of Darkness, most likely through Craigslist, and are currently negotiating an IS-w1 deal, immortal soul for one wish, that would have Jindal crowned the figurehead of the Republican Party. Despite his formidable legal team, if granted the nomination Jindal will certainly not escape with his soul.

Jindal is well acquainted with Satan, having led his high school Exorcism team to the state championships three years in a row.

If the deal goes through and he is chosen he will be anointed with ram’s blood in the basement of the Fox News headquarters.

Gay Bible angers Christians

Let the screeching begin!! I'm going to have to truck in the popcorn for this one.

A gay version of the Bible, in which God says it is better to be gay than straight, is to be published by an American film producer.

New Mexico-based Revision Studios will publish The Princess Diana Bible – so named because of Diana's "many good works", it says – online at princessdianabible.com in spring 2009. A preview of Genesis is already available, in which instead of creating Adam and Eve, God creates Aida and Eve.

(snip)

The film studio said it would also adapt and direct the revised Bible as a two-part mini-series, The Gay Old Testament and The Gay New Testament, once it is completed.

"There are many different versions of the Bible; I don't see why we can't have one," said Max Mitchell, who directed the science fiction comedy Horror in the Wind, in which an airborne formula invented by two biogeneticists reverses the world's sexual orientation.

Court upholds 'God' plates in Indiana

It pissed me off then, and it pisses me of now. The rest of the article goes into the mumbo jumbo of the decision, but basically it boils down to the fact that you have to pay extra for your "Support Teachers" or "Support The Environment" plates, but for the "Jesus Loves You" one, not so much.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Court of Appeals upheld the constitutionality of the state's "In God We Trust" license plate Monday, rejecting a claim that people who buy the plates should have to pay a $15 administrative fee charged for other specialty plates.

In its 12-page ruling, the appeals court found that state lawmakers acted correctly in creating a license plate classification system that exempts people who buy the "In God We Trust" plate from paying the administrative fee.

The court found that the General Assembly's license plate system "is reasonably related to the inherent characteristics of the license plates."

Target: Obama

By GottaLaff

http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl0/10/104169/10_2008/79493839.preview.jpg
As much as this subject sends chills down my spine, it's good to know the Obamas are doing everything they can to stay safe and secure:
A military-style operation to keep Barack Obama alive was under way yesterday within hours of his victory. Even as the US President-elect celebrated with more than 160,000 supporters in Grant Park, Chicago, he did so from behind bullet-proof glass 12ft high and 3ins thick. Mr Obama, wife Michelle, running mate Joe Biden and his wife Jill were under instructions not to stray from the line-of-fire protection zone. This zone had been identified by FBI agents pointing lasers at the stage from every building surrounding the park. Mr Obama and his family spent the Presidential campaign with more full-time Secret Service agents – a team of 10 – than any other candidate in the history of the race. That will now be increased, with a squad of six agents assigned to his wife Michelle, and another six to watch over their daughters Malia, 10 and Sasha, seven.
More:
Mr Obama’s limousine, supplied by the Secret Service, is bulletproof and reinforced to withstand bomb attack.

A team of specialist investigators from the FBI has also been assigned to work alongside the Secret Service to monitor America’s 487 known white supremacist groups.

Senior advisers have already discussed with Mr Obama the possibility of him wearing a lightweight bullet-proof vest during public appearances – a proposal he has so far resisted, but which Secret Service chiefs are expected to insist upon.
According to this article, the threats aren't limited to racists. They include "pro-lifers who fear Mr Obama will enshrine Americans’ abortion rights; religious fundamentalists; terrorists both foreign and domestic."

By the way, the threats increased when Wardrobe Barbie stirred up the hostilities with her vile speeches. Good riddance to the worst candidate in memory.
