CatholicVote.org's national new media campaign "Life: Imagine the Potential."

According to NCRegister.com : EWTN's Raymond Arroyo announced that this new pro-life video ad has been accepted for broadcast on the closing episode of American Idol . Produced by CatholicVote.org as part of its series of "Imagine the Potential" ads, the new ad promotes adoption...
I dunno, man, I think it's a little pitchy, not the best song choice, not much of a stretch, you know Dawg, but okay, nice try. Paula, aw come on, man, quit dancing on your chair, climb down, and get that goofy grin off your face. Kara... Kara, Kara, Kara... please, just... shut up. Simon?

Georgia Senate Bill Bans Creating or Destroying Embryos for Research

By GottaLaff

Seems Georgia's definition of "pro-life" differs from many of ours... and President Obama's:

A Senate panel today approved a bill that would ban the creation or destruction of an embryo for embryonic stem cell research.

The move comes on the same day that President Barack Obama lifted limits on using federal dollars for such studies.

Critics say the bill would hinder embryonic stem cell research, and harm the biotech industry.

Supporters say it would protect human life in its earliest form.
You can still study and research stem cell lines, see. You just can't use a Georgia embryo, or create one, for that research.

Besides, we wouldn't want a "negative light" to "shine on the state", you see.

Besides, we all know that blastocysts (What's a blastocyst? How does all this work again? ) must be protected at all costs, but once we're actually, you know, born? Not so much.

Listen to the (2:30 minute) audio here.

Target: Obama

By GottaLaff

http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl0/10/104169/10_2008/79493839.preview.jpg
As much as this subject sends chills down my spine, it's good to know the Obamas are doing everything they can to stay safe and secure:
A military-style operation to keep Barack Obama alive was under way yesterday within hours of his victory. Even as the US President-elect celebrated with more than 160,000 supporters in Grant Park, Chicago, he did so from behind bullet-proof glass 12ft high and 3ins thick. Mr Obama, wife Michelle, running mate Joe Biden and his wife Jill were under instructions not to stray from the line-of-fire protection zone. This zone had been identified by FBI agents pointing lasers at the stage from every building surrounding the park. Mr Obama and his family spent the Presidential campaign with more full-time Secret Service agents – a team of 10 – than any other candidate in the history of the race. That will now be increased, with a squad of six agents assigned to his wife Michelle, and another six to watch over their daughters Malia, 10 and Sasha, seven.
More:
Mr Obama’s limousine, supplied by the Secret Service, is bulletproof and reinforced to withstand bomb attack.

A team of specialist investigators from the FBI has also been assigned to work alongside the Secret Service to monitor America’s 487 known white supremacist groups.

Senior advisers have already discussed with Mr Obama the possibility of him wearing a lightweight bullet-proof vest during public appearances – a proposal he has so far resisted, but which Secret Service chiefs are expected to insist upon.
According to this article, the threats aren't limited to racists. They include "pro-lifers who fear Mr Obama will enshrine Americans’ abortion rights; religious fundamentalists; terrorists both foreign and domestic."

By the way, the threats increased when Wardrobe Barbie stirred up the hostilities with her vile speeches. Good riddance to the worst candidate in memory.

John Sidney McCain's pro-choice choice?

By GottaLaff

About that Tom Ridge for V.P. idea...
Rich Lowry of National Review's "The Corner": "NR has learned that the McCain campaign has been calling key state GOP officials around the country the last couple of days and sounding them out about the consequences of a pro-choice VP pick. The campaign is asking about the reaction of conservative grass-roots activists to such a pick and whether a pro-choicer can be sold to them. This is an indication that the McCain campaign is serious about the possibility of a pro-choice VP nominee and that McCain leaving the door open to Tom Ridge last week may not have been merely a friendly nod to a longtime supporter. In this scenario, McCain's emphatic pro-life statements Saturday night and his pledge that he'll run a "pro-life administration" would have been partly an attempt to reassure conservatives in the event of a pro-choice pick."
So. J Sid's a pro-life religious true believer who gives forceful and decisive answers to pre-screened questions as he forcefully and decisively implies that a pro-choicer could be a heartbeat away from the presidency, should he keel over.

Nail Pastor McCain on pro-life specifics

By GottaLaff

So Pastor Sid is "pro-life". And how would he go about demonstrating that in the real world of governing? Atrios wonders that too:

And when McCain says he believes life begins at conception (cheer!) it's pretty meaningless unless he's asked to explain how that would be translated into policy. Are blastocysts entitled to child support? Do all late periods need to be reported to the Ministry of Health? And, of course, my favorite: Are those who implant multiple embryos during IVF treatments, knowing full well that most will die, guilty of negligent manslaughter?
I asked similar questions back in May, about equal rights for embryos. Somebody should ask J Sid a few questions, and this time make him answer.

It's about time: Obama uses the "L" word

By GottaLaff

It's about time someone uses the word "liar" when it's deserved. I couldn't load the video, but you can watch it here:

Brody: Real quick, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. I gotta tell you that's the one thing I get a lot of emails about and it's just not just from Evangelicals, it about Catholics, Protestants, main -- they're trying to understand it because there was some literature put out by the National Right to Life Committee. And they're basically saying they felt like you misrepresented your position on that bill.

Obama: Let me clarify this right now.

Brody: Because it's getting a lot of play.

Obama: Well and because they have not been telling the truth. And I hate to say that people are lying, but here's a situation where folks are lying. I have said repeatedly that I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported - which was to say --that you should provide assistance to any infant that was born - even if it was as a consequence of an induced abortion. That was not the bill that was presented at the state level. What that bill also was doing was trying to undermine Roe vs. Wade. By the way, we also had a bill, a law already in place in Illinois that insured life saving treatment was given to infants.

So for people to suggest that I and the Illinois medical society, so Illinois doctors were somehow in favor of withholding life saving support from an infant born alive is ridiculous. It defies commonsense and it defies imagination and for people to keep on pushing this is offensive and it's an example of the kind of politics that we have to get beyond. It's one thing for people to disagree with me about the issue of choice, it's another thing for people to out and out misrepresent my positions repeatedly, even after they know that they're wrong. And that's what's been happening.

Brody: I wanted to give you a chance to clear it up.

ABC News: Are Dems Pro-Life?

By GottaLaff

Did they not watch CSPAN today? Apparently not:
Are Democrats Now Pro-Life? As Convention Draws Near, New Talk of a Pro-Life Presence
That's some headline, for suresies! Of course Democrats are "pro-life". They're sure not pro-death. And they continue to be pro-choice.

An excerpt from the Democratic platform:

Abortion (called "Choice")

The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right.

Seems clear enough to me.

Republican "Pro Life" Candidate Paid For Girlfriend's Abortion

By Paddy

It used to be that these stories were the anomaly rather than the norm. Not any more. It's just pathetic in it's hypocrisy. The whole thing is rather detailed, so go read at the link for more.

An Oregon City woman who dated congressional candidate Mike Erickson seven years ago said she asked him directly whether he wanted to have a baby. He shook his head no, she said, and paid for her abortion.

In interviews with The Oregonian, the woman said she met Erickson in September 2000, and she had the abortion in January 2001. They saw each other afterward, she said, even going on a trip to Mexico in March, before the relationship ended. She spoke on the condition that only her first name, Tawnya, be used.

Her story is backed up by medical and other records, and the accounts of two friends, one of whom was with her at the abortion. Their story conflicts directly with Erickson's version.
