Year to year MSNBC sees smallest decreases of any network in total viewers

Interesting. My guess would be that MSNBC has more loyal viewers.

MSNBC saw the smallest decreases of any network in total viewers. Year-to-year, MSNBC is down -6% in total viewers for both total day and primetime.

MSNBC was #3 in total day/demo viewers behind FNC and HLN. The channel was also #3 in total day/total viewers behind FNC and CNN. MSNBC topped CNN each hour between 6pm-12amET.

"Morning Joe" was the second most watched morning program in total viewers, but struggled in the demo averaging 115K, the fewest of the four.

(snip)

"The Ed Show" was one of the few cable news programs to grow in both total viewers (+25%) and demo viewers (+4%) year-to-year and was the number two program in its time slot. Also, the 5pmET "Hardball" topped "The Situation Room" for the first time in total viewers.

Both "Countdown" and "The Rachel Maddow Show" were down in the demo year-to-year, but Maddow's program did grow slightly (+2%) in total viewers. For the first time since 2000, MSNBC, which airs a replay of "Countdown," topped CNN at 10pmET in total viewers. MSNBC was also #2 in total viewers at 11pmET, which hasn't happened since Maddow's show premiered in 2008.

Though Olbermann's program saw year-to-year decreases (-13% total viewers/-30% demo), 8pmET "Countdown" moved back into the cable news top 10, finishing 10th among cable news programs in total viewers. "Maddow" was #11.

Quickie: Muslims now diss Al Qaeda edition

By GottaLaff

Today's Quickie:

When BushCo was in power, said former counter-terrorism czar Richard Clarke on Hardball just now, Muslims wouldn't stand up and criticize Al Qaeda. They do now.

Oh, and per Clarke, the world likes us again, and hence, is more cooperative. (Yes, I just wanted to say "hence".)

Apparently, having a Kenyan Muslim commie Marxist in the White House is paying off.

That was today's Quickie. Was it good for you?

VIDEO- Anti-government Idaho candidate: "I'm not an authority on world governments"

By GottaLaff

Idaho gubernatorial candidate and militia man Dr. Rex Rammell doesn't like our form of government. It has completely taken over, don't you know. But when Chris Matthews asked him where there's a better government than ours...

"I'm not an authority on world governments."

Good answer, Doc. What a keen mind you have. What a well thought out response. Same goes for your answers about the Air Force, Medicare, and Social Security.

Entitlement programs are unconstitutional, and the 16th and 17th amendments should be repealed.

Here's what he really wanted to say: Repeal President Obama.

Pat Buchanan on the Civil War:

"Both sides were right."

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Happy Confederate History Month, Pat! Let's celeberate!

As I said in my previous post, MSNBC continues to hire a racist who defends slavery, glorifies the Civil War south, and uses code words like "states' rights"... but David Shuster is kept off the air.

Chris Matthews: "Someone should tell this walrus (Rush Limbaugh) to stop this"

By GottaLaff

Chris Matthews ripped into Boss Limpdong on Hardball just now. He was expressing his deep concern over the amount of rancor and virulent speech freely expressed by media personalities about President Obama when he said the following:

This walrus under water makes fun of this administration calls it a "regime"...

You go to war with "regimes". They're tyrannies, they're military coups...

Someone should tell this walrus to stop this.

Now Chuck Todd is rambling on about how this kind of talk just has more of a platform now. Yeah right, Chuck. That's all it is.

Sure, all the technology and outlets contribute, but that wasn't Tweety's point. It wasn't so much about availability, but about the terminology, the vitriol, the extreme language.

Matthews responded, and cited this interview:

Joe McCarthy never used the word "regime".

Indeed. And it's that kind of language that incites threats and violence. It only takes one, and we're fast approaching the breaking point.

Loudmouthed louts like Limbaugh, Beck, and let's not forget Palin and a few Congress members, should be held at least partially responsible if and when a real tragedy occurs as a result.

VIDEO- Hardball: Why is America really angry?

By GottaLaff

I don't know how Melissa Harris Lacewell does it. I'd have been screaming, if for no other reason than Dana Loesch saying "succession" when she meant "secession"... oh, and the over-talking:

Vintage VIDEO- January: Chris Matthews berates Alan Grayson for suggesting reconciliation

By GottaLaff

KagroX reminded me about this video in which Chris Matthews condescended, berated, chided, and barked at someone who knew a whole lot more than he did:

Chris Matthews: "This is netroots talk... You're pandering... When will they do this, I wanna write this down..."

Grayson: "When did you become the Senate parliamentarian?"

Hey Tweety, here's when they'll do this: Now.

Video- Howard Dean on Hardball: "The center left is anti-incumbent. It's the left's tea party."

By GottaLaff

Howard Dean, who is making the rounds today, is on Hardball right now. Chris Matthews seems to take pleasure in needling him, often making ridiculous comments that Dean swats down with some regularity.

Here are some random moments from their conversation:

Howard Dean:

The center left is anti-incumbent. It's the left's tea party.

Matthews asked what Dean's role is in the health care reform battle.

Dean:

I'll talk public option (hopefully one that expands Medicare) until we get one. The House will add to the bill to make it better. The bill will change, because the House won't vote for it until it does.

Matthews made a comment about Dean being a "booster" for President Obama.

Dean:

I'm always a booster of the president whether I agree or disagree.

Matthews:

I don't see the reality of your position emerging here.

Dean:

82% of Dems, 59% of the general public, want a public option. My position is to stand up for that.

Matthews:

Well, we know where he stands. He's for the public option.

Gee, ya think?

VIDEO- Hardball: Rep. Jeb Hensarling wants to "re-engineer" Social Security

By GottaLaff

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

This is what they call a plan?
[C]ut benefits for everybody now under 55 and privatize the program like President Bush tried to do in 2005.
Great idea, because things went so swimmingly under BushCo.

By the way, calling cuts to Social Security benefits "re-engineering" just won't re-engineer, er, cut it, Ace.

Oh, and Jeb? It's a Democratic, not "Democrat" Congress. By the way, it's also the most successful Congress of any modern president, including Saint Reagan's.

Snippets from an exchange that just took place on Hardball:

Chris Matthews: Is your party leadership using dilatory practices to slow down health care reform? [He asked that twice]

Sen. John Barrasso: Why would you set an arbitrary deadline? Arbitrary deadlines are foolish.

Way to avoid answering the question, Barrasso.

Sen. Bob Menendez: This is about protecting the special interests and having this president and Congress fail.

Chris: The Democrats aren't perfect. The Republicans aren't doing it.

VIDE0- Chris Matthews: Netroots 'Get Their Giggles' From 'Bitching'

By GottaLaff

"Sit in the back seat and bitching"? Not running for office?

What does he think Howard Dean has done? He's about as netrootsy as you can get!

And Firedoglake sits back and complains without getting out there and doing something? Tell that to my inbox and Tee Vee Machine. And Act Blue? And Kos? And so many more? Really?

Troublemakers, right. Chris is drawing attention to his projectile salivator crankypantsitude, and it's very unbecoming.

Yesterday, Matthews tried to smack Howard Dean around, and now this. He needs to remove whatever has recently crawled up his punditiocracy.

Update via Think Progress:

A Senate staffer tells ThinkProgress that the reason Franken cut off Lieberman is because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) office has been asking all presiding chairs to enforce the 10-minute rule for both sides. Franken was simply following the direction of leadership.
