DNC Responds- Barbour 'defended the indefensible'

Video of dumbass Barbour here, and I agree with Oliver.
The DNC slammed Barbour for the remarks.

"Governor Barbour defended the indefensible this morning and in doing so portrayed a Republican mindset that is not only out of touch with this century, but the last one as well,” DNC national press secretary Hari Sevugan said in a written statement. “To say that the systematic condemnation of millions to bondage and generation upon generation to servitude is ‘not significant,’ or that the tearing apart of families and the selling of human beings as cattle ‘doesn't amount to diddly’ is outrageous for any public official to say, let alone a man Republicans have placed in a position of leadership.”

Sevugan added, “These comments are unacceptable and should be universally condemned in the strongest terms. A failure to do so will send a strong message to all Americans that Republicans endorse Governor Barbour's sentiments and are content not only to be left behind in another century, but that they deserve to be a small regional party in the permanent minority “

VIDEO- Hardball: Pat Buchanan defends "the truth of history" of slavery

By GottaLaff

Pat Buchanan on the Civil War:

"Both sides were right."

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Happy Confederate History Month, Pat! Let's celeberate!

As I said in my previous post, MSNBC continues to hire a racist who defends slavery, glorifies the Civil War south, and uses code words like "states' rights"... but David Shuster is kept off the air.

VIDEO: "There will be a civil war" if health care reform passes

By GottaLaff

TPM's Evan McMorris-Santoro talked to Kris Fisher of Oakville, Virginia.:

Do these people, these "citizens", realize that we have a Congress that was elected by American voters, legally?

And that their side lost? Fair and square? Or doesn't their brand of patriotism cover stuff like one person, one vote?

That's called "democracy". Say it with me, Kris. De-moc-ra-cy. Or in her case, deMOCKracy.

They lost.

They lost.

Let me say that one more time, so that even Kris the Protester can understand it.

They. Lost.

Deal with it without the threat of violence, okay? Can we all manage that? Or is peaceful coexistence passé?

'Kthanksbye.

Party Poopers: Tea partiers attack convention

By GottaLaff

http://www.2008tshirts.com/images/products/COLORED/PS%200607%20PARTY%20POOPER1.gif

Ruh-roh! A revolution against the revolution:
Four Tennessee tea party activists who said they couldn’t afford the $550 tickets to the National Tea Party Convention staged a guerilla news conference just outside of the event to challenge its representation of the movement.

“There are a lot of citizens in the state of Tennessee today who could not afford to be here… particularly in this economy,” said Antonio Hinton, a 37-year old tea party activist from Knoxville. [...]

All four of the men protesting the convention are part of a recently formed coalition of 34 tea party groups from around Tennessee that does not include the group behind the convention. The four contended the coalition, the Tennessee Tea Party Coalition, www.tntpc.us is more representative of the conservative populist movement, whose members have nonetheless chafed at being associated too closely with the Republican Party and its political leaders.

Two Supreme Court GOP Coups Bracket a Decade

By GottaLaff

Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash, via the always interesting Mark Karlin:

From the presidential election stolen in December of 2000 by a 5-4 vote to the 5-4 vote in January of 2010, the decade is bracketed with a partisan Republican High Court that twice shoved the basic underpinnings of democracy -- government of the people, by the people and for the people -- into a garbage compactor and crushed our electoral rights. [...]

BuzzFlash was one of the few progressive sites on the Internet -- and perhaps the loudest and most in your face -- when Antonin "the Fixer" Scalia stopped the 2000 recount in Florida because Al Gore would have overtaken Bush and become president. [...]

I was talking on the phone this morning with Thom [Hartmann], and he brought up the irony that may be prophetic that the infamous Dredd Scott decision that declared slaves to be property led to the Civil War. Now, we have a Supreme Court decision that affirmed that corporations have, according to the GOP 5-4 vote, the same election rights as people. [...]

The Dredd Scott decision, as Hartmann points out, resulted in the Civil War. [...]

It might not be time for a Civil War, but it is time for a non-violent populist revolt to restore our Constitutional rights as people and to protect ourselves from the predatory corporations that now will transparently buy their politicians in D.C.

Civil War won by North, but South never emotionally conceded

By GottaLaff

Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash, via my pal Mark Karlin:
The Town Hall mobs, the birthers, the teabaggers are all part of that long line of “coded” agitators for the notions of white entitlement and “conservative values.”

[...] It also – and this is its hot molten core – fundamentally believes that white people are born with a divine advantage over people of other skin colors, and are chosen by God to lead the heathen hordes.

[...] Lies that confirm an emotionally reinforcing worldview – however heinous – become truths for those in psychological need of feeling superior and chosen.

Of course, when you start stirring the pot of race -- in order to preserve the status quo of entrenched power and wealth – you emerge with a stew of hate boiling over and ready to explode into full-fledged violence.

[...] Racism and the Neo-Confederacy are like a thermometer. The big media companies and their GOP allies can turn it up or down.
Please go read the whole thing here.

Iran elections: VIDEO + Why Did The Mullahs Panic? Theocracy is about to break wide open

By GottaLaff

Via Andrew Sullivan:

A reader writes:

Why did the clergy panic? Because they saw something much larger than just Mousavi being elected. They saw the beginnings of a wave that would sweep them out of power. This started with Khatami. and it won't stop today just because they declared a fraudulent winner. Mousavi would have been the crowbar with which to pry open the tangled nest of corruption that came into power soon after the 1979 revolution. There is enough pent-up anger in Iran's youth to fuel a complete wipeout of the regime. If the thugs were so utterly ham-fisted in their attempt to usurp power, they surely will commit scores of idiotic errors in the days to come. I cannot imagine Rafsanjani staying quiet for much longer; the theocracy is about to break wide open. Resistance will take many forms, and now will not stop until the mullahs are permanently out of power. Iran is headed for civil war.
