VIDEO- Hardball: Pat Buchanan defends "the truth of history" of slavery

By GottaLaff

Pat Buchanan on the Civil War:

"Both sides were right."

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Happy Confederate History Month, Pat! Let's celeberate!

As I said in my previous post, MSNBC continues to hire a racist who defends slavery, glorifies the Civil War south, and uses code words like "states' rights"... but David Shuster is kept off the air.

David Shuster may not be back on air for remainder of contract

By GottaLaff

I was just witness to Pat Buchanan defending slavery on MSNBC (I'll post the video when it becomes available). Yes, resident Old White Racist Punditiot Guy still has regular work as contributor while David Shuster gets the cold shoulder for shooting a CNN pilot before his contract with MSNBC was up in December.

I guess contractual issues trump despicable ratings-inducers:

Now that David Shuster has been suspended indefinitely by MSNBC, it looks like he may not be back on the air for the remainder of his contract – up at the end of this year.

The pilot that led to his MSNBC demise was just the latest in a series of run-ins with management.

According to Mediaite, Shuster also got into a scrape or two over at ClusterFox when he erased one of Rita Cosby's scripts about the disbarring of President Clinton.

Whether David is guilty of these things or not (which I do not condone), we do know one thing: Buchanan's disdain for anyone who doesn't look like him is egregious enough to pull him off the air permanently. Where is the logic?

And where is the logic in CNN's exposing their viewers to RedState's Erick Erickson?

I mean other than jacking up ratings at any cost. I mean other than money. I mean other than selling out.

Never mind.

Alex Witt: "Who won?"

By GottaLaff

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Video/070310/n_iran_us_070310.vsmall.jpg

I watch Alex Witt and "her boys" every Saturday morning before the dreaded Lockup marathon starts. I'm not sure why I continue to get sucked in to what passes for political discussion between Peter Fenn and ::shudder:: Pat Buchanan.

Why MSNBC continues to allow Buchanan to take up air space is beyond me. But I've posted about that before. A lot.

The point is, if I ever get to it, Alex Witt jumped right in with the following question about President Obama's exchange with the House GOP yesterday:

"Who won?"

That was the first thing she asked. Bang. Because to her, that's apparently what mattered.

This isn't a horse race. It isn't the Super Bowl. Or even a spelling bee. Or a pie eating contest, lottery, American Idol, Yahtzee, or Beer Pong.

No, this was an effort by President Obama to approach his political opponents, to communicate and confront, challenge and respond.

The ultimate goal shouldn't merely be a quantified and trivialized win or a loss for either side. But that is what the so-called news has been reduced to in a 24 hour cycle.

President Obama said it himself at his Elyria, Ohio town hall meeting:
And I understand why, after the Massachusetts election, people in Washington were all in a tizzy, trying to figure out what this means for health reform, Republicans and Democrats; what does it mean for Obama? Is he weakened? Is he -- oh, how's he going to survive this? (Laughter.) That's what they do. (Laughter.)

But I want you -- I want you to understand, this is not about me. (Applause.) This is not about me. This is about you. This is not about me; this is about you.
It's not always about cosmetics. It's not always about superficialities and one-upping. It's about cutting through the name-calling and yelling and lies. It's about priorities. It's about fixing America.

Alex Witt, please take note.

Shallow Thoughts: Shut Up, Pat Buchanan edition

By GottaLaff

Today's Shallow Thought:

I was watching Alex Witt on MSNBC this morning as she discussed the 2010 elections with Pat Buchanan. She suggested that the Democrats would not be able to hold on to their 60-seat super majority, and asked "Uncle Pat", "Does that mean the government will come grinding to a halt?"

Pat Buchanan's response: "Hopefully."

MSNBC had no problem hiring this anti-American--not to mention racist-- windbag as a regular political analyst. Punditiots who advocate government failure should be given less, if any, air time, not more. Vigorous debate is a good thing, and freedom of speech should continue to be alive and well.

But to warmly welcome noxious obstructionists like Buchanan to the airwaves does not serve what's left of the news media well, because he does not inform, he infects. And that is destructive to a healthy democracy.
That was today's Shallow Thought. Thank you for wading in.

Soul for War: Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

By GottaLaff

http://img.timeinc.net/time/daily/2006/0608/buchanan0819.jpg

My very caring, impassioned 72-year-old Twitter pal, who goes by the name 42bkdodgr, would like to share his feelings about Pat Buchanan, BushCo, President Obama, and the Afghan war. I am more than happy to oblige. He nailed this one.

But first, a personal note from 42bkdodgr:
Many of you may wonder why I chose to use the “ 72 year old friend” as the introduction to my Special Comments. I selected the moniker so readers could see that from my age and life experiences I give a different perspective to the issues of today.
Now for his Special Comment:
Soul For War

Tuesday night prior to President Obama’s speech regarding the Afghanistan War, Pat Buchanan made a remark on Hardball that upset and made me very angry.

Buchanan opined that Obama, by having a defined exit strategy, was showing he had no soul to fight the Afghanistan War, and that it would demoralize our troops and it was sending a signal to the Taliban to wait us out until we leave.

Pat, what audacity you have to say such a thing. The ones who had no soul to fight the Afghanistan War were the Bush/Cheney administration. You seem to forget, the purpose given by President Bush for invading Afghanistan in October, 2001, was to find Osama bin Laden and other Al-Qaeda members, put them on trial and destroy the Al-Qaeda organization.

Yet within a couple of months, the Bush Administration took their eyes off the ball to prepare for, and start, an unnecessary war in Iraq, based upon lies and misinformation.

They turned a deaf ear to requests for more troops to complete the job of capturing bin Laden. They left the troops in Afghanistan undermanned and ill-equipped to complete the job. Pat, their decisions and actions let down the families and friends who lost loved ones on 9/11 and the American people.

Had they completed the job in Afghanistan, there would have been no need to go to war with Iraq, a war which has resulted in the death and injuries of thousands of Americans and Iraqis. Bush/Cheney were more interested in establishing a permanent U.S. presence in Iraq and the oil the country possessed than capturing bin Laden.

Pat, the Bush Administration took this country into two wars without an exit strategy, which is the primary reason our country finds itself in the situation we are in today.

If you wanted to see President Obama’s soul, Pat, all you had to do was look into his eyes on Tuesday night. They had the look of a man who was tired and hadn’t slept very well prior to his speech, anguishing over what he knew would be the toughest decision of his presidency so far, and knowing it wouldn’t satisfy everyone.

Pat Buchanan, I never saw such a look in President Bush’s eyes.
Many thanks again for another timely, insightful, and accurate piece, 42bkdodgr. You never fail to say what so many of us are thinking and feeling, and your perspective is invaluable.

Pat Buchanan & Traditional Americans: Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

My very caring, impassioned 72-year-old Twitter pal, who goes by the name 42bkdodgr, would like to share his feelings about one of our posts a few days ago of Pat Buchanan's feelings on "traditional Americans". I am more than happy to oblige.

Traditional Americans

I commented recently on an article written by Pat Buchanan titled “Traditional Americans Are Losing Their Nation”. In my previous comment I wrote about the Oath Keepers, but I said at the time I wondered who was a Traditional American.

So I ask Pat the following:

* Were traditional Americans the Indians and Mexicans who lived on the continent before its discovery?

* Were traditional Americans the colonists who preferred being a colony of England prior to the Revolutionary War?

* Were traditional Americans the people who supported the Declaration of Independence and fought in the Revolutionary War?

* Were traditional Americans the people who owned slaves and supported a Civil War or the Americans who opposed slavery?

* Were traditional Americans the people who opposed the immigration of Irish Roman Catholics and other nationalities to the United States in the 19th Century?

* Were traditional Americans the people who barred black athletes from baseball and other major sports?

* Were traditional Americans the people who believed that a Catholic or Black person should not hold the office of President?

* Were traditional Americans the people who fought against the desegregation of schools and the civil rights movement?

* Were traditional Americans the people who voiced objection to Koreans and Vietnamese coming to America?

Pat, don’t you see a pattern forming? America is an ever evolving country. That is what makes America great, its different nationalities and cultures (food, music, language, ideas ) and the heritage they bring to this country.

Pat, there are no Traditional Americans; there are just Americans.
Many thanks again for another timely, thoughtful, and heartfelt piece, 42bkdodgr.

Pat Buchanan & the Oath Keepers: Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

By GottaLaff

Many of you may wonder why I chose to use the “ 72 year old friend” as the introduction to my Special Comments. I selected the moniker so readers could see that from my age and life experiences I give a different perspective to the issues of today.
Now for his Special Comment:
Pat Buchanan recently wrote an article titled “Traditional Americans are losing their nation.” I’m trying to figure out what a traditional American is; but that’s for another Special Comment.

In the first part of his article, Pat writes about an organization that calls itself the “Oath Keepers“. The organization is made up of ex-Army paratroopers and police officers who repledge themselves to defend the Constitution, even if it means disobeying orders. Stewart Rhodes, the organization founder, says the reason for the type of membership, is “my focus is on the guys with the guns”.

The stated purpose of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening in America. Mr. Rhodes uses the example of the U.S. government ordering the disarming of American citizens in violation of the Second Amendment as to when his organization might take action.

Mr. Rhodes doesn’t mention whether such action would be taken after the Supreme Court has ruled on the constitutionality of a government law or order. One has to wonder if the rule of law is of any concern to him or his organization, or whether it is they who will decide if a government is moving toward a dictatorship.

If Mr. Rhodes is afraid of a possible dictatorship taking place in this country, where was he during the Bush Administration? Why wasn’t he concerned about this country getting involved in a unnecessary war based on lies, warrantless wire taping, suspension of Habeas Corpus, torture, and the fear mongering that took place? Why wasn’t he concerned when it was reported that some in the Bush administration considered the Constitution nothing more than a piece of paper?

So now we have an armed organization that will come to the aid of the American people should the people decide its time for a revolution. This is very frightening.

In his article. Pat refers to the organization founder as Brother Rhodes, which can make one conclude that Pat is a brother in arms with him and favors the ideals of the Oath Keepers.

At no time does Pat indicate the concept of such an organization is against every principle this country believes in. He raises no concern what may happen to this country if the organization should ever take action.

Pat spends the rest of the article discussing the reasons why middle America distrusts the government and makes them feel like they are losing their country .

For Pat to show so little concern that the Oath Keepers exist, tells me we are truly living in dangerous and scary times.
Many thanks again for another timely, thoughtful, and relevant piece, 42bkdodgr.

May I just say

That it amazes me on a daily basis how Pat B is able to be so overtly racist in practically everything, yet take home a nice paycheck each week from the traditional media.

Pat Buchanan: "Traditional Americans are losing their nation"

By GottaLaff

http://img.timeinc.net/time/daily/2006/0608/buchanan0819.jpg

Pat Buchanan (I need a shower after typing that) has a new column he titled "Traditional Americans are losing their nation".

Really? They are? "Their" nation, huh?

Apparently, per Pat, non-"traditional" Americans never had their nation.

He's right in this respect: They've always been shoved to backs of buses, forced into the path of fire hoses, made to serve "traditional" Americans as slaves, gardeners, maids, car washers, bus boys, toilet cleaners, stuff that "traditional" Americans don't want to do.

Here's how "Uncle Pat", as Rachel Maddow and others call him, ends his little piece:
America was once their country. They sense they are losing it. And they are right.
Pat lost it years ago.

Mika Brzezinski: Pat Buchanan ‘Says What We’re All Thinking’

By GottaLaff

If Pat Buchanan said what we were all thinking, he'd say, "I quit. I will never show my face on the Tee Vee Machine again."

Via Dave Weigel, Mika thinks Pat's the bestest guestest ever:
Brzezinski jumps at the chance to name Pat Buchanan “because he says what we are all thinking.”
Then again, if Pat said what Mika had going on inside her little noggin, we'd hear this:

VIDEO- Pat Buchanan: Michael Steele Had A Kanye West Moment

By GottaLaff

Michael Steele, the RNC chair, had this to say regarding President Obama's Nobel Peace Prize win:

"The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?' It is unfortunate that the president's star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain - President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action."
What a guy, huh? That's some party leader, always knowing just the right thing to say.

Or not. Pat Buchanan had this to say about what Michael Steele had to say:

MSNBC removes Buchanan column from site

Wonder what took them so long? I'm sure my Polish father who fought and was imprisoned in the war that was "Poland's fault" would have a couple choice words for Mr Buchanan. Media Matters has more.

Pat Buchanan has received a lot of criticism recently for his column marking the 70th anniversary of the Nazi invasion of Poland, where the conservative pundit questions whether Hitler has gotten a bum rap.

By extension, MSNBC, where Buchanan is a commentator, has taken heat for promoting the column on its website. In the revisionist piece -- "Did Hitler Want War?" -- Buchanan argues that other countries, such as Poland, should be held responsible for the invasion, and later escalation of World War II. Hitler, he claims, wanted peace and wasn't out for world conquest.

David A. Harris, President of the National Jewish Democratic Council, condemned MSNBC's promotion of the "deplorable" column and urged that it be removed from MSNBC.com.

Well, now the network has pulled it.

Special Comment by my 72-year-old friend

By GottaLaff

I have a very caring, impassioned Twitter pal, one who I've actually had the pleasure to spend some time with. He wanted to share his feelings about recent events, and I am more than happy to oblige:

Special Comment
As a 72 year old, white American I’m appalled by what is going on in the Congress and in the radio and TV media. In Nov. 2008 this country elected an African-American President. For me it was a very proud moment in this country’s history and many Americans had the same feeling.

Since being inducted into office, President Obama has had little or no cooperation from the Republican Party and the conservative electronic media. The Republican Party has become the party of NO!!

Republicans fought him on the Stimulus Plan which the President lessened to get bipartisanship. Now they are fighting him on the Health Care Package, with a public option. The Republicans and some Blue Dog Democrats are more interested in satisfying the insurance and drug companies then the needs of the American public who favor Health Care reform with a Public option.

The object of the GOP is to torpedo every proposed Plan by Obama they can so they can gain control of congress.

In all my years I haven’t seen such hate and the spread of fear since the Civil Rights movement congress.

During the Sotomayor hearings the Republican senators repeatedly asked her about a statement she made regarding the judgment a Latino women might have when deciding a case. Their repeated questions and statements about her remark showed their racist tendencies

During the hearing, Pat Buchanan on the Rachel Maddow show spewed one of the most racist and hateful comments I’ve ever heard made by a TV commentator. To say that the white man built this country and were the only ones who fought in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and on the beaches of Normandy, then Pat needs a history lesson because he seems to have forgotten that the blacks, Asians and many other minorities help build this great nation and fought in its wars.

I was shocked that no action was taken against Buchanan; and I was equally surprised that you didn’t hear a word from the black leadership or for that matter from any news commentator other than Rachel the following day.

Then you have members of Congress and conservative media doubting Obama’s legitimacy of being a natural born citizen of this country, while they have been given proof that he was born in Hawaii. Even after a resolution was passed unanimously in the House of Representatives that he was born in Hawaii, some congressmen and conservative media who still question his legitimacy.

But the worst of all was when a supposedly news commentator Glenn Beck called President Obama a “racist”, while other conservative radio commentators intimated as much. Mr. Beck owes the President an apology. While we have free speech in this country, when one makes inflammatory remarks that go beyond the pale some action should be taken by CNN. There hasn’t been a word from the black leadership so far. The only purpose of these actions and remarks is to stir and rile their conservative base.

It is it any wonder why the Department of Homeland Security in anticipation issued a statement to expect a rise in racial tension and violence? The conservative politicians and media are the first to disavow any responsibility that their remarks may have influenced the actions taken by any of their followers.

It is time for moderate Republicans to speak up and say to their party members and to the conservative media that what they are doing doesn’t help make this country better or move it in a better direction. It is time for them to remember the oath they took when sworn in, to support and defend the Constitution. The time has come for them to put country first and not the party.
Great rant. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Pat Buchanan and the Long Goodbye

By GottaLaff

Your Daily Dose of BuzzFlash via my pal, Mark Karlin:

In retropsect, it was an iconic showdown: a lesbian new media superstar smacks down the open racism and gender bias of one of the most enduring and brazen defenders of white male entitlement.

So it was when Rachel Maddow -- pushed to the limits of her cordiality -- swatted down Buchanan's pugilistic assertions of white male mental superiority for the Supreme Court.

It's the Alamo for white male affirmative action, and Buchanan (and his media counterparts such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity) know that if they don't start a rebellion of white guys (who will be even more armed thanks to the NRA soon), the sheer demographics of America are facilitating a long goodbye to white males having absolute power over the destiny of the nation. [...]

Pat Buchanan, like Ann Coulter, knows that controversy gets publicity (and don't kid yourself: MSNBC is delighted to get all the attention the Maddow-Buchanan dust-up received, although it was clear Maddow was sincerely offended and somewhat taken aback that her periodic "acceptable" insider D.C. spokesman for the "Aryan Nation" had crossed the line). [...]

But then the psychic crack-up happened: an African-American male was elected to the highest office in the land by a landslide. [...]

As for why Buchanan continues to draw a salary from the MSM media and has an ongoing presence on television, remember that most of the television corporations are run by white guys. And GE owns MSNBC. Don't forget that.

As for seeing anymore of Buchanan on TV, yes there is a First Amendment, but there is also a question of civilized standards.

Please go read the whole thing here.

Top Immigration Group Demands MSNBC Muzzle Pat Buchanan On Race

By GottaLaff

http://www.progressivepuppy.com/the_progressive_puppy/images/2008/08/27/31121_2.jpg

Watch out, MSNBC, things are heating up:

Looks like MSNBC has a bit of a Pat Buchanan problem on its hands.

In the wake of Buchanan’s latest (ahem) racially charged diatribe, in which he described America as a “country built basically by white folks,” a respected immigration reform group is demanding that the network stop granting Buchanan a platform to share what might charitably be termed his ideas on racial issues. [...]

[Paco] Fabian of America’s Voice says his group is putting together a letter to MSNBC, and reaching out to Latino groups as signatories, calling on the network to stop letting Buchanan offer commentary on racial issues, particularly with debate looming on immigration reform.

“This was one of the last straws,” Fabian said. “We’re really concerned that some of the language he has been using is going to come up with immigration.”

I smell a "good riddance" coming...

The last thing MSNBC wants to do is lose its new found viewership (via Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz).

For those who haven't seen it yet, this is what Fabian's referring to:
