Today's Shallow Thought:

Is health care a right or a privilege? Here's how I see it:

Staying alive is a right, right? If someone kills you, they get in all kinds of trouble. It's illegal to murder another human being. Conversely, it's laudable to save one.

When there is a medical emergency, everyone does whatever it takes to keep the patient alive. If they're negligent, they're sued.

Health care keeps you alive. Health care is mandatory. Without it, we die.

Health care is a right.

Shallow Thoughts:

Liz Cheney is branding lawyers who defend terrorists as Al Qaeda sympathizers.

Does that mean that lawyers who defend serial killers are homicidal maniac sympathizers? And that those who defend the worst kind of kidnappers are pedophile sympathizers?

Despicable Dickette may have forgotten: Defense lawyers have a job to do. It entails defending their clients. That's called "being professional" and it's how the American legal system works. If they fail to do that, they can be sued for malpractice.

Media punditiots and GOPers have defended Supreme Court Justice Alito's grimacing and mouthing his disagreement during President Obama's State of the Union address. If instead, Justice Sotomayor had smiled and mouthed approval, would the same people be defending her?

Shallow Thoughts: Where's Fox? edition

Today's Shallow Thought:

ClusterFox is the only network-- besides the Cartoon Network-- that is not broadcasting the Hope for Haiti Now Telethon. Actually, Fox is the Cartoon Network, so they alone are shunning this event. (thank you MADNews101)

ClusterFox: Home of the tearful Glenn Beck; the always genuine Sean Hannity; the compassionate-to-a-fault Bill O'Reilly; and the oh-so-maternal Sarah Palin. It's obvious from their roster of on-air talent that Fox is a passionate, caring network.

Yet there not an ounce of time or effort was devoted to helping people in dire need. ClusterFox apparently needed the money more than the Haitians do.

Shallow Thoughts: Shut Up, Pat Buchanan edition

Today's Shallow Thought:

I was watching Alex Witt on MSNBC this morning as she discussed the 2010 elections with Pat Buchanan. She suggested that the Democrats would not be able to hold on to their 60-seat super majority, and asked "Uncle Pat", "Does that mean the government will come grinding to a halt?"

Pat Buchanan's response: "Hopefully."

MSNBC had no problem hiring this anti-American--not to mention racist-- windbag as a regular political analyst. Punditiots who advocate government failure should be given less, if any, air time, not more. Vigorous debate is a good thing, and freedom of speech should continue to be alive and well.

But to warmly welcome noxious obstructionists like Buchanan to the airwaves does not serve what's left of the news media well, because he does not inform, he infects. And that is destructive to a healthy democracy.

Shallow Thoughts: Bite me, BushCo edition

Under President Obama's watch, a terrorist attack was prevented. Under Bush's, a terrorist attack succeeded. So far, Obama has kept America safe. Bush didn't. Yet BushCo continues to criticize Obama.

Conclusion: Bush and Cheney let the terrorists win. Epic fail. Bite me, BushCo.

Davis Shuster just commented on how tough it is to have a real debate on health care because of the hostile, out-of-control environment at the town halls.

Instead of reporting on how difficult it is to have an exchange of ideas on health care because of the Republimobs, how about reporting on the ideas themselves? That would most likely put a major dent in the effectiveness, and therefore, the visibility of the crazies.

I wish I'd written this down at the time, but didn't, so this is paraphrased. Chuck Grassley was talking to Chris Matthews on MSNBC during a break in the Sotomayor hearings. He said (almost in passing) that the so-called controversial statements that Judge Sotomayor made in her talks weren't reflected in her rulings.

If that is the case, then what's the problem again?

RNC chairman Michael Steele is giving a speech on the Tee Vee Machine right now, and nothing can get shallower than that:

"The time for [Republican] apologies is over... This is the end of Republicans looking backwards... [President Obama's] honeymoon is over... President Obama could not be more partisan.... We have only one goal. It's not power, it's not majorities. It's about the success of our country... The Republican comeback has begun... This change, my friends, is being delivered in a teabag, and that's a wonderful thing."

And then he went on to say how popular Obama is, and how we libruls picked on poor George Bush.

Who knew Steele was so good at stand-up comedy?

Shallow Thoughts: Nancy Pelosi edition

If, for the sake of argument, Nancy Pelosi did know about BushCo's torture program, and the Rushpublics are wildly pointing fingers of blame at her, then that is an acknowledgment that BushCo, indeed, ordered said torture.

Torture is illegal. Torture is bad. Torture is immoral. Torture doesn't work. All those wildly pointing fingers should switch directions and point at the BushCo war criminals who committed the original crimes. But that won't happen, because that would mean that the Rushpublic party would officially be known as the Party of Torture, and that just won't win elections.
