Obama gives $1.4 million Nobel prize to 10 charities: The List

By GottaLaff

President Obama kept a promise. He said he'd donate his Nobel Prize money to charities, and he did exactly that.

You know what that makes him, don't you?

That's right.

A socialist.

Here is the breakdown of who got what:

- $250,000 to Fisher House, a national nonprofit organization providing accommodation for families of patients receiving medical care at military and Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers.

- $200,000 to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, which was set up in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake to help survivors.

- $125,000 to College Summit, a national nonprofit organization to increase college enrollment rates.

- $125,000 to the Posse Foundation, which awards scholarships to promising public high school students.

- $125,000 to the United Negro College Fund.

- $125,000 to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

_ $125,000 to the American Indian College Fund.

- $125,000 to the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation.

- $100,000 to AfriCare, which promotes health, food security and access to water primarily in Africa.

- $100,000 to the Central Asia Institute, which education and literacy, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Spreading the wealth. What kind of evil person does that? Impeach now!

Sarah Palin compares her book to Obama Nobel acceptance speech

By GottaLaff

http://www.figarospeech.com/storage/bush_palin.jpg

Wowee, we never realized how alike Barbie McLipSchmutz, Boy Georgie, and Nobel Peace Prize winner/President of the United States Barack Obama really are!

How could we have been so blind? Too.

"I liked what he said [...] I talked too in my book about the fallen nature of man and why war is necessary at times."
Also.

Gosh, she and Prez O could be twins!

Yes, Barbie, war is necessary at times. So your thinking is just like Obama's that way, as is most of America's.

"Of course, war is the last thing I believe any American wants to engage in, but it's necessary. We have to stop these terrorists."

Why, yes. Yes we do. And that's just what we've been trying to do since BushCo failed to prevent that attack back in 2001... and didn't. And then detoured to Iraq. And failed there, too.

"By the way, I'd like to see President Obama follow more closely in the footsteps of George Bush and his passion for keeping the homeland safe," Palin added.

Jaw-droppingly dense. Utterly delusional. And ::shudder:: could have been our vice president.

Good thing she quit... while she was behind.

H/t: Roddee

UPDATE- Here is some audio to add to the lunacy in which she is asked if she would debate Al Gore on climate change:
On Laura Ingraham’s radio show today, Palin continued her attack on Gore. But when Ingraham asked if she would be willing to debate Gore on the issue, Palin demurred, saying that if it was in the wrong “forum” she would “get clobbered.

How Obama can earn his Nobel Peace Prize: Oh wait....

By GottaLaff

http://www.rechargelounge.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/halffullstopper300.jpg

There's a lengthy op-ed in today's L.A. Times in which several writers and scholars are asked what President Obama should do to earn the Nobel Peace Prize... that he already earned but apparently really didn't.

Here is the second of two excerpts that I singled out:
The question overlooks what he's already done
by Kennette Benedict

To truly deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama should do the following:

* Enter into serious negotiations with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev about reducing our two countries combined arsenals of more than 20,000 nuclear weapons.

* Reverse the U.S. decision to install missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic, thus reducing military costs and enhancing cooperation with Russia.

* Reach out to Muslim countries and peoples with a speech in a Muslim population center.

* In concert with five other countries, begin direct negotiations with Iran over its nuclear enrichment program.

* Re-initiate negotiations with North Korea to shut down its nuclear weapons program.

* Open relations with Myanmar, a potential transfer point for dangerous nuclear materials.

* While presiding as president of the United Nations Security Council, call for stopping fissile material production worldwide.

* Halt the worst global financial meltdown since the 1930s, preventing further economic hardship and possible outbreaks of new wars.

* Work with the U.S. Congress to introduce new legislation to address disruptive, conflict-producing climate change.
Yeah, see, the thing is, he's accomplished a lot already. If it isn't too much of a strain, let's not ignore the positives.

Jonathan Turley to Obama: Earn the Nobel by appointing a prosecutor for war crimes

There's a lengthy op-ed in today's L.A. Times in which several writers and scholars are asked what President Obama should do to earn the Nobel Peace Prize... that he already earned but apparently really didn't.

Here is one of two excerpts that I singled out. The second one will be in a separate post:
The most obvious start would be to fulfill our obligations under treaties and international law to appoint a special prosecutor, without limitations, to investigate and prosecute any war crimes committed by U.S. officials. Obama already has acknowledged that waterboarding is torture and that torture is a war crime, yet his administration is blocking investigations that are the prerequisite to justice. Obama has promised CIA employees as a group that they would not be prosecuted for torture for following orders, despite the long-standing finding from the Nuremburg trials that "just following orders" is no defense for a war crime. Appointing a special prosecutor would show that Obama will not continue to circumvent principle for politics. He could further demonstrate his commitment to international law by dropping his opposition to the release of photographs and other records showing our abuse of detainees.
For more on the torture photo backtrack, see yesterday's post here.

All my previous posts on this subject matter can be found here; That link includes audio and video interviews with Lt. Col. Wingard, one by David Shuster, one by Ana Marie Cox, and more. My guest commentary at BuzzFlash is here.

Lt. Col. Barry Wingard is a military attorney who represents Fayiz Al-Kandari in the Military Commission process and in no way represents the opinions of his home state. When not on active duty, Colonel Wingard is a public defender in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

If you are inclined to help rectify these injustices: Twitterers, use the hashtag #FreeFayiz. We have organized a team to get these stories out. If you are interested in helping Fayiz out, e-mail me at The Political Carnival, address in sidebar to the right; or tweet me at @GottaLaff.

If you'd like to see other ways you can take action, go here and scroll down to the end of the article.

Then read Jane Mayer's book The Dark Side. You'll have a much greater understanding of why I post endlessly about this, and why I'm all over the CIA deception issues, too.

Tammy Bruce: Obama is a coon

By GottaLaff

http://www.sadlyno.com/wordpress/uploads/2009/10/tammybruce-300x227.jpg
Really? A coon? Is this where we’re at now? Because this sort of stuff isn’t coded speech, it’s not a dog whistle or faux-irony … it’s flat-out, no-apologies, bottom-of-the-barrel, peckerwood racism. Coming from a supposedly mainstream, ‘mugged-by-reality’ class of political commentator.
Here's part of the problem. We need a solution. Now.

America is becoming more and more desensitized to spew like this and to the toxic excrement coming from the usual sources (it's becoming more and more revulsive to type/see their names in print). And so, perversely, it becomes more commonplace, and therefore more tolerable to "some".

I'm not "some" and I never will be. But can anyone think of a time when racism was so flagrantly, bald-facedly prevalent, accessible, and media hyped as if it were some bad reality show?

McDonnell's ticket-mate: Obama's Nobel "A Joke, Meaningless, Hilarious"

By GottaLaff

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c4/Ken_Cuccinelli_03.jpg/225px-Ken_Cuccinelli_03.jpg

If anyone is a joke here, it's the bad-dream-team of McDonnell/Cuccinelli. Maybe McDonnell didn't agree with his partner about the Nobel win, but he admires Cuccinelli enough to share a ticket with him:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell may have been "delighted" that President Obama was awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize, but his ticket-mate, attorney general candidate Ken Cuccinelli, feels a little differently.

"Well, it's official, the Nobel Peace Prize is officially meaningless," Cuccinelli opened his Cuccinelli Compass newsletter to supporters Friday. He went on to quote commentator John Podhoretz about what Cuccinelli termed the "Nobel hilarity." Podhoretz argued that the win is not surprising because Obama represents the Nobel committee's highest ideals because he is "an American President queasy about the projection of American power."

"I suspect that whoever nominated him actually did it as a joke. And how about that, it really did turn out to be a joke," Cuccinelli concluded on the subject.
And just who is this insolent little slug?
During his time in the Senate Cuccinelli has spearheaded the opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, taxes, eminent domain, and gun control [...]

Cuccinelli is a staunch opponent of abortion and is endorsed by the Republican National Coalition for Life. [5] In November 2008 he was named the Family Foundation “Legislator of the Year.”[6] Cucinelli has sponsored a number of pro-life bills, including:

  • Requiring doctors to anesthetize fetuses. [7]
  • Altering the licensing and regulation of abortion clinics. [8]
  • Making it a misdemeanor for a physician to perform an abortion for somebody under the age of 15 and not save the fetal tissue. [9]

Cuccinelli’s firm opposition to gun control has landed him the endorsement of the NRA.[10] Specifically, Cuccinelli has sponsored legislation which calls for:

  • Repealing the prohibition on carrying a concealed handgun in a restaurant or club. [11]
  • Allowing concealed handgun permits from other states to be valid in Virginia. [12]
  • Allowing concealed handgun permit applicants to withhold their information from Freedom of Information Act requests. [13]
  • Preventing a person from being disqualified for a handgun permit based on a sworn, written statement from a law enforcement official that says the applicant is likely to use a weapon unlawfully to endanger others. Under Cuccinelli’s proposal a person could only be disqualified for a permit by a court ruling based on the applicant’s past actions. [14]
And finally:
In 2005 Cuccinelli created a small stir when he claimed a George Mason University event which explored issues of safe sex, date rape and sexual health was “designed to push sex and sexual libertine behavior as far, fast and furiously as possible” and promote “every type of sexual promiscuity you can imagine.” [20]
There now. Isn't that hilarious?
