McDonnell's ticket-mate: Obama's Nobel "A Joke, Meaningless, Hilarious"

If anyone is a joke here, it's the bad-dream-team of McDonnell/Cuccinelli. Maybe McDonnell didn't agree with his partner about the Nobel win, but he admires Cuccinelli enough to share a ticket with him:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell may have been "delighted" that President Obama was awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize, but his ticket-mate, attorney general candidate Ken Cuccinelli, feels a little differently.

"Well, it's official, the Nobel Peace Prize is officially meaningless," Cuccinelli opened his Cuccinelli Compass newsletter to supporters Friday. He went on to quote commentator John Podhoretz about what Cuccinelli termed the "Nobel hilarity." Podhoretz argued that the win is not surprising because Obama represents the Nobel committee's highest ideals because he is "an American President queasy about the projection of American power."

"I suspect that whoever nominated him actually did it as a joke. And how about that, it really did turn out to be a joke," Cuccinelli concluded on the subject.

And just who is this insolent little slug?

During his time in the Senate Cuccinelli has spearheaded the opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, taxes, eminent domain, and gun control [...]

Cuccinelli is a staunch opponent of abortion and is endorsed by the Republican National Coalition for Life. ^[5] In November 2008 he was named the Family Foundation “Legislator of the Year.”^[6] Cucinelli has sponsored a number of pro-life bills, including:

• Requiring doctors to anesthetize fetuses. ^[7]
• Altering the licensing and regulation of abortion clinics. ^[8]
• Making it a misdemeanor for a physician to perform an abortion for somebody under the age of 15 and not save the fetal tissue. ^[9]

Cuccinelli’s firm opposition to gun control has landed him the endorsement of the NRA.^[10] Specifically, Cuccinelli has sponsored legislation which calls for:

• Repealing the prohibition on carrying a concealed handgun in a restaurant or club. ^[11]
• Allowing concealed handgun permits from other states to be valid in Virginia. ^[12]
• Allowing concealed handgun permit applicants to withhold their information from Freedom of Information Act requests. ^[13]
• Preventing a person from being disqualified for a handgun permit based on a sworn, written statement from a law enforcement official that says the applicant is likely to use a weapon unlawfully to endanger others. Under Cuccinelli’s proposal a person could only be disqualified for a permit by a court ruling based on the applicant’s past actions. ^[14]

And finally:

In 2005 Cuccinelli created a small stir when he claimed a George Mason University event which explored issues of safe sex, date rape and sexual health was “designed to push sex and sexual libertine behavior as far, fast and furiously as possible” and promote “every type of sexual promiscuity you can imagine.” ^[20]

There now. Isn't that hilarious?

The happy couple: Obama already planning transition to White House

I love a candidate who (realistically, as opposed to delusionally) thinks like a winner.

The Chicago Sun-Times has learned that Obama confidant Valerie Jarrett "is already teed up to be highly involved in transition planning -- to be ready if Obama is sworn in as president next January."

Given the limited time between the November election and the January inauguration, it's a common practice to start this planning early.

Imagining a White House filled in which people aren't interested in subverting the law every 2 days is filling me with sweet, idealistic thoughts of peace, prosperity, and good will. Okay, maybe I'm being unrealistic, but compared to what we have, I'm not quite off the deep end. Sigh. A president and vice president who show they care, for each other and their country: Bliss is actually within reach. ::cue blue birds tweeting::

Obama is looking for, in broad strokes, someone with complimentary expertise, who could be a successor, who he has good chemistry with and, in the political equation, would possibly help -- but certainly not hurt -- win electoral votes.

...and who likes long walks on the beach. I hope he finds the perfect mate. We wish them, and the rest of us, all the happiness in the world. Can someone tell me where Barack registered?

McMating Season for McHuckabee

Somebody's angling for a shot at McVeepee-e-e-e:

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Sunday he’s interested in John McCain’s No. 2 spot.

“There's no one I would rather be on a ticket with than John McCain,” the former Arkansas governor said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

No one? So I guess that means he'd turn Obama down. Awww, Barack will be heartbroken.

“Let me point out that all during the campaign, when I was his rival, not a running mate, there was no one who was more complimentary of him publicly and privately,” he said.

They do make such an adorable pair. Now I know why they're called running mates.

Chuck Hagel cain't say no

Chuck's jist a guy who cain't say no, he's in a turrible fix,
He always says, "C'mon le's go", jist when he orta say "nix".

What's a guy to do?

Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel, who has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, laughed off the possibility Tuesday in a CNN interview - but didn't rule it out, either.

"I don't expect to be on anyone's ticket this year. I don't expect to be in anyone's government next year," Hagel, who is retiring from the Senate this year, told John Roberts on CNN's American Morning.

But would he consider joining a bipartisan unity ticket with Obama? "I'm going to try and find some honest work," he said, adding that "If [Obama] asks, I'll let you know."

Hagel, a long-time friend and Senate ally of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, has not yet endorsed any presidential candidate.

If Obama glances at his voting record, he won't consider him as a running mate. Why people think Chucky leans left is beyond me. The Iraq fiasco is only one issue. There are so, so many more.
