A helpful guide to who's been naughty and nice

By GottaLaff

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z298/cdump06/Images/christmas/images/naughty-or-nice.gif

The L.A. Times has their own idea of who gets (not clean) coal and who gets a generic gift card. Here is their list, in part:
Nice: Houston, which recently became the biggest U.S. city to elect an openly gay mayor. Annise Parker has two adopted children with her partner of 19 years, Kathy Hubbard, though unlike Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren they aren't legally allowed to marry.

Naugthy: Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.), a vacuum for oil industry political contributions whose nonsensical denials of climate-change science in the face of vanishing ice sheets and decaying coral reefs make him Earth's Public Enemy No. 1. [...]

Naughty: The voters of Maine, who overruled the state Legislature and voted to take away the right of gays and lesbians to marry.

Nice: The Washington, D.C., City Council, which voted this month to legalize same-sex marriage over the objections of dozens of religious leaders. [...]

Naughty: The U.S. Catholic Bishops, whose insistence on antiabortion language in the Senate's massive healthcare bill threatened to derail legislation that promises to fulfill a long-standing ambition of, yes, the U.S. Catholic Bishops, who have traditionally been strong supporters of broadened healthcare coverage. Now that makes a whole a lot of sense, doesn't it? [...]

Naughty: The U.S. government, for seeking to sell oil and gas leases that would have permitted drilling on more than 110,000 pristine acres of public land in Utah, including some of America's most beautiful and environmentally sensitive red-rock desert. [...]

Naughty: The Obama Justice Department, for demanding that the case of five men who were allegedly kidnapped by the CIA and subsequently tortured be thrown out of court because pursuing it might require disclosure of supposedly vital American secrets.

Nice: The three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ordered that the case go forward, rightly stating that to thwart a trial would "perversely encourage the president to classify politically embarrassing information simply to place it beyond the reach of the judicial process." [...]

Naughty: Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), who breached congressional protocol (a phrase becoming increasingly oxymoronic) by shouting, "You lie!" at President Obama during a presidential address to Congress in September on healthcare reform.

Nice: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), whose dogged efforts to herd the cats in his own party into backing a filibuster-proof, 60-vote majority on the health reform bill have been admirable.

Strollers, umbrellas forbidden at Obama inauguration

By GottaLaff

http://beyondcreativity.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/forbidden.png
If you're off to see the inauguration, hope for clear skies, leave your baby at home, and wear something with lots of pockets:
Strollers, umbrellas and backpacks are to be banned from parts of the US capital for president-elect Barack Obama's historical inauguration January 20, planners warned on Sunday.
In fact, don't even think about eating or drinking anything perishable:

Due to strict security precautions, those attending the inaugural parade or hoping for a spot on the grounds near the Capitol building in Washington have been told to leave their previsions at home, including duffel bags and coolers.

Whatever you do, avoid creative expression:

Posters and signs are also banned.

Another word of advice: Wear comfortable shoes:

"A vast majority of attendees will be in standing room sections and should be prepared to be on their feet for several hours," according to a congressional committee tasked with planning the swearing-in ceremony for Obama and vice president-elect Joe Biden.

But don't worry, you'll be snug as a bug in a rug:

But officials say they plan to provide blankets and thousands of ponchos if it rains or temperatures drop.

They have made arrangements to set up nearly 30,000 chairs, mostly on and around the grounds of the west side of the US Capitol, where the oath of office is administered on the Capitol steps.

And all those Colt .45s and daggers you planned on stashing discreetly in your forbidden Victoria's Secret shopping bag? Fuggetaboutit:

Other prohibited items include large bags or packages, as well as firearms, explosives and sharp objects.

Plan on celebrating? Do not BYOB:
Alcohol is also forbidden on the grounds. But bars, restaurants and nightclubs can serve alcohol until 4:00 am -- two hours later than usual -- and food 24 hours a day from January 17 to 21.
Let's recap: No strollers, umbrellas, backpacks, duffel bags, satchels, coolers, ByeBye Bush banners, posters, signs, uncomfortable trendy footwear, bags, parcels, pistols, rifles, Derringers, lean-tos, box cars, bayonets, daggers, needles, Barbie Dream Houses, chopsticks, T.N.T., plastic explosives, H-bombs, letter openers, box cutters, Swiss Army knives, shotguns (are you listening, Grandma Palin?), cement mixers, crates, Projectile Bush Shoes shoe boxes, doghouses, suitcases, ice buckets, Chablis, Chateau Neuf de Papes, Budweisers (are you listening, Cindy McCain?), ales, lagers, Coronas, Margaritas, Cognacs, Jack Daniels, Absoluts, Absinthes, sakes, or creature comforts of any kind.

Now go have yourselves a good time!

By GottaLaff

http://geo.international.gc.ca/asia/australia/images/PresidentsChair_Senate_OPH.jpg
Here's the list of chairpeoplemanships:
The lineup of chairmen is unrelated to committee memberships and Democrat-Republican ratios, both of which have not been finalized. [...]

The list does not include an Ethics Committee chairman, which Reid said he will recommend later.

By GottaLaff

Lynn Cheney?

1. Lynne Cheney.

4. Henry Waxman.

5. Whoever Joe Biden wants to be Secretary of State.

Am I missing something really obvious here? I wouldn't put it past me.
