John McCain:

It would have been a serious mistake to have read the suspect in the attempted Times Square car bombing his Miranda rights, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Tuesday.

McCain, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a longtime leading Republican on national security issues, said he expected the suspect in the case could face charges that might warrant a death sentence if convicted.

"Obviously that would be a serious mistake...at least until we find out as much information we have," McCain said during an appearance on "Imus in the Morning" when asked whether the suspect, 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized American citizen from Pakistan.

"Don't give this guy his miranda rights until we find out what it's all about," McCain added.
Pete King:
Rep. Peter King (N.Y.), the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, wants to know whether the Justice Department consulted with the intelligence community.

“I hope that [Attorney General Eric] Holder did discuss this with the intelligence community. If they believe they got enough from him, how much more should they get? Did they Mirandize him? I know he’s an American citizen but still,” King told POLITICO.

"It is time we rethink our heroes"

It's L.A. Times letters to the editor time:

Re "Roosevelt was right — we need more Americans ‘in the arena,' " Opinion, April 23

Bob and Elizabeth Dole remind us of the words of Theodore Roosevelt: "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena … who does actually strive to do the deeds."

As I read this, I could think only of our president, who is striving so valiantly to solve our problems. And the critics: the Rush Limbaughs, the Glenn Becks and, yes, many in Congress — the small men who, for power and money, do nothing but criticize, tear down and attempt to destroy him.

Sadly, too many Americans admire the critics, whose negativity serves only to destroy, rather than the doer, "whose place shall never be with those cold and timid souls" but who "spends himself in a worthy cause" because that is what brave men do.

It is time we rethink our heroes.


And our priorities. And our approach to "news". And the way we communicate. Feel free to add other rethinkitudes in Comments.

Glenn Beck's New Novel Is Ripped from Glenn Beck's Headlines

Glenn Blech didn't have to come close to taxing his warped imagination when he wrote [sic] his new novel. No, he merely had to grab some crayons and construction paper, and the words just flowed.

Gawker has a plot summary that you can read here, but suffice it to say it's as predictable as you most likely predicted. It's all about the Big Bad Liberals, fear mongering, terrorist attacks, and, well, get a load of the heroes.

It's not often one can profit from jotting down his own recurring dreams:

Through the magic of imagination, he can cast himself as the dashing young playboy and put a younger Sarah Palin in an adventuring catsuit and the pair can run off into the night, solving crimes against American traditionalism and safely waiting to do it until they can get married in a consecrated chapel built out of Lincoln's old house.

And they're aided by a crusading band of "patriots"! This means Teabaggers.

Go take a look. And bring some Kleenex, because you'll laugh yourself to tears.

Glenn Beck to Give Commencment Speech at Liberty University

Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match...

What could be more perfect:

Jerry Falwell Jr., chancellor of Liberty University, announced Friday that Fox News commentator Glenn Beck, will deliver the commencement address at the Lynchburg campus’s May 15 graduation, the News & Advance reports.

Beck is one of the few courageous voices in the national media standing up for the principles upon which this nation was founded,” Falwell said in a news release.


Everything Baby Falwell said is true.... if by "principles upon which this nation is founded" he means gasbaggy, bellowing hate-filled, lying spew by an alcoholic drug abuser bordering on insanity. And isn't that what conservative Christians value most?

I hope ClusterFox catches his tearful, self-indulgent, blathery blubbering on camera so they can run an endless loop of it all the livelong day.

I almost feel sorry for the grads, because his bloaty little redfaced image will be etched into their memories forever.

How ironic that most of them have twice the intelligence he could ever hope to have in his itsy bitsy hollow little pea brain. I said intelligence, not judgment. After a stint at Falwell U, that still remains to be seen.

Is the media ready to call them terrorists yet?

This post is dedicated to those who incite violence and hate speech, and/or stand by as others do either or both.

I'm talking to you, Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michele Bachmann (and other conservative Congress members), and any extremist who may have momentarily slipped my mind.

This kind of behavior should not be the new normal, but unfortunately, that seems to be the case.

How could this be? A ratings decline? For Mr. Poopular? But... Glenn Blech is so, so... train wrecky. And you know how everyone loves to crane their necks to catch a glimpse of a good wreck:

Based on the Nielsen numbers, here's a look at Beck's average daily rating over the last month. [...]

You'll note that aside from a temporary spike that came on March 22, the Monday after the historic health care vote, Glenn Beck has spent the last four weeks with between 2.5 million and 2.0 million viewers, which represents a downward trend.

Gee, I can't imagine why viewers would stray from such a fine role model for their kiddies.

I wonder if my pal StopBeck has made an impact. I'm leaning yes.

Library of Congress will acquire all Twitter messages

"The Library of Congress will acquire all public tweets", the Library of Congress publicly tweeted :


A Library spokesman later expounded on the new archive in a blog post, writing that its primary function will be to assist researchers and educators.

Well, if it's going to assist researchers...

This is a learning opportunity, said the Library spokesman, who failed to tweet his thoughts:

"I'm no Ph.D., but it boggles my mind to think what we might be able to learn about ourselves and the world around us from this wealth of data," wrote the spokesman, Matt Raymond. "And I'm certain we'll learn things that none of us now can possibly conceive."

Like teenagers filling us in on what they're about to eat? Like Jim Carrey splitting up with Jenny McCarthy?

Like Keith Olbermann yummily zapping Glenn Beck?




I guess there are some tweets that are educational.

Here comes the Big H. However:

The acquisition could pose concerns for privacy advocates, who could argue that too much private information will soon become part of the public domain.

If privacy becomes as optional as choosing to publicly tweet or Direct Message (a private, e-mailed tweet), Library, we have a problem.

"A majority of people at the middle level at Fox News don't believe a word of what they are saying."

Why are you saying it? "Whatever will sell is what we have to say."

Many staffers are considered "left wing", but if they found a message that would sell, the opposite of what they believe, they would do so. That's the Rupert Murdoch way.

Glenn Beck is only as good as his sponsorship. His message doesn't play into Fox News, and he's losing national sponsors, leaving only local, low-paying sponsors. (Thank you, StopBeck).

So how useful is Beck to ClusterFox? He's not. They're selling propaganda to sell products.

From the middle level executive's point of view, there is no political objective at Fox News [sic]. People are stupid enough to believe what they say, and ClusterFox reaps the benefits.

"They'll tell you whatever they sell, and they're only as good as their sponsorship.... at the national expense."

"They're a little annoyed at Ann Coulter... and Glenn Beck."
