A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.
Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl's birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.
"I don't think she believes me yet," he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. "It's going to take some more convincing."

I would divorce his ass, hit him up for child support then change my childs name. Not because he named the girl Sarah McCain Palin but because the asshole obviously has zero respect for his wife. That child will forever be attached the the worse ran campaign in presidential history especially because they are gonna lose!!

A couple I know: he was the III in his family. When his son was born, wife did not want to name baby the IV. They picked out different name. But the husband and his family were not happy. So after 3 weeks, they changed the baby's name to blah blah blah IV.
It worked out well because the son always idolized his dad and loves having the same name.

belinda, she should divorce his sorry ass for having no regard for her feelings about something so important. It will probably take her several more years to see it, though.
In the meantime, I *think* it's easy to change the birth certificate this early in the game so I hope she does.

When I had babies, the birth certificates were filled out by the doctors who asked ME what the baby was named. That method worked out well and I highly recommend it. :)
In the article it states that if his wife disagrees the family has one year to file an affidavit requesting the name change.

So this sounds like a crass publicity stunt since it can be simply undone.
Can I call bullshit on this story? I'm not 100% sure where this is supposed to take place, but usually, the birth certification process involves the signature of the Mother (and often the Father, if the couple is married/amicable), as well as witnesses. . . this is a legal document after all.
I find it hard to believe that a name can be "chosen" by a father without the mother's knowledge or consent. This story just smells like a publicity stunt (in which all parties are participants).
So: Passive-aggressive behaviour? Check? Child abuse? Check? Alimony? Check every month.
McCalamity's campaign has attained a strange variety of consistency: every new thing they try is more stupid than the last one. That inability to know what a good line would be, (poor judgement), and then stick to it, (lack of faith in himself), and make it work, (inability to turn decisions into efficient actions), all neat and tidy, is proof that McCalamity would be an even worse President than GW Bush.
McCalamity does not offer 4 more years of the same, he offers 4 more years of even worse. The longer the campaign goes on, the worse it gets for him.
That poor child will be tease for the rest of her life. The husband should change his name to Sarah McCain Palin. Not the child. Why should the child pay the price for her father's stupidity. The things parents do to their kids. This is Frightful. Poor baby....
I know a couple,God rest their souls, who knamed their son Woodrow Wilson. He turned out to be a great patriot serving in the marines during the Vietnam war and went on to becom a physician. But he only used the name Wilson.
I actually know Ciptak; he would do ANYTHING to get attention. It reminds you of a dog that will destroy whatever may be at hand just to get attention, be it positive or negative. He is probably eating this up at his wife and daughter's expense.
He has shown the world what some acquaintances already knew; he is deceitful! How can a man do that to his wife? This is lower than low! He might as well have told her "I don't care what you think, this is what I'm naming the baby!”
I bet he contacted the Kingsport Times-News to tell them what he did. What a sad existence he leads, and unfortunately, he can legally procreate!
Just a side note; Clancy, he said he had 2 sets of forms, he probably got Layla to sign them both.
