Cindy McCain Bankrolled Conference That Called for Ban on Mercenaries
By GottaLaff
A little-publicized US Naval Academy conference named after Senator John McCain and bankrolled by his wealthy wife, Cindy, issued a call earlier this year for the US government to ban the use of armed private security contractors like Blackwater in US war zones, stating bluntly, “contractors should not be deployed as security guards, sentries, or even prison guards within combat areas.”But wait! There's more!
According to the Fall 2009 newsletter, “Taking Stock,” published by the US Naval Academy’s Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership—the host of the McCain Conference—among the speakers at the 2009 event was none other than Erik Prince, the owner of Blackwater. Prince’s company is the most infamous of those engaged in the type of armed activity explicitly condemned by the conference’s leadership.
My Xe primer, "Blackwater for Dummeez", is here. That post will tell you a little bit about who these people [sic] are.
Despite the fact that the McCain conference, which publicly advocated against the use of armed contractors in combat areas bears Sen. McCain’s name and was bankrolled by his wife, when it has come to making this a major issue on Capitol Hill, the Arizona Senator has been largely silent. [...]
The McCain campaign hired people with deep ties to the mercenary industry to work on his presidential bid. [...]
Moreover, the International Republican Institute, which has deep ties to McCain, hired Blackwater as its private security force in Iraq, paying Blackwater an average of more than $17 million a year since 2005 for security services, according to records.
Go here for the rest. Leave it to Scahill to fill us in when nobody else can... or will.

The Missing McCain
By GottaLaff
This year's Log Cabin Republican Convention, Thursday through Sunday, is starting to look like a McCain presidential campaign reunion. As the Republican group bids for support for gay marriage and the end of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, two members of John McCain's family and his former campaign chief will be lending a hand. Both wife Cindy McCain and daughter-blogger Meghan McCain will be featured at a reception at the home of former Rep. Jim Kolbe, an Arizona pal who's gay. And Meghan will be featured, along with former Rep. Tom Davis, at the convention's national dinner Saturday night. [...] [Steve] Schmidt recently endorsed gay marriage.Oh Gramm-pa? Gra-a-ammpa.....?
::cricket, cricket::
John McCain—not slated to attend—has normally said that most issues gays are pushing are for state governments, not Washington, to handle.

John McCain blows off "The View"
By GottaLaff

Sen. John McCain just may have blacklisted the hit talk-show The View after a heated, somewhat confrontational, appearance on the program last September. You know what they say: If you can't stand the heat(ed appearance), get out of the
"He had been on The View and was not very happy," Walters told a gathering at Syracuse University, according to Portfolio.com. "And when we walked out and I saw him I said, 'Senator, so nice to see you. I hope you'll come on The View again.' And he looked at me and said, 'Not anytime soon.'” [...]
Walters specifically challenged Palin's reformist credentials, noting McCain has served in Washington for more than two decades and asking repeatedly, "Who's she going to reform, you?"
Whatever happened to J Sid's inflamous, knee-slappin' sense of humor?
McCain's wife Cindy, after a contentious fall appearance of her own, declared that the co-hosts "picked our bones clean."Go here to see the videos of J Sid getting his bones picked clean.
Gee whiz, if he's that reticent to return to a daytime Tee Vee show, how would he have behaved had he been elected president, and gotten dissed by, say, an Iranian leader?
Silly me. He'd probably have joked his way out of it.

(No) Dancing with Cindy McCain
By GottaLaff

, there was a very confused, very desperate, very hypocritical candidate for president. His name was John McCain, but all the villagers knew him as Gramm-pa, due to his association with a man of very little brain named Phil Gramm. Grammps, whose mental stability and judgment were often in question, flaunted his wife in front of a throng of bikers in August of 2008, offering her up as a contestant for "the next Miss Buffalo Chip"... and all the, er, titillating perks that the title toplessly encompassed.
As time went on, Grammpa John grumbled and mumbled and mumbled and grumbled to himself, "That was one embarrassing mistake I'll never make again." Grammpa John was a very wise (as well as wizened) old man for having seen the error of his ways. He learned his lesson, and he learned it well:
SEN. John McCain might regret choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate, but an even worse decision will deprive his fellow Americans of what would have been the best season of "Dancing With the Stars" ever. Our impeccably placed source says, "Just before Thanksgiving, Cindy McCain started talks with producers to appear as a dancer on the show. She wanted to do it very badly." But this week, Sen. McCain "put the kibosh on it." Reps for the show and McCain didn't return calls. The moral of this tale: One must only pimp one's wife out when one is running for the highest office in the land.

New Ann Coulter Book Coming This Week -- Rips (Surprise) Michelle and Barack O
By GottaLaff
Ann Coulter will be dropping her latest bomb in bookstores this week. New York's Daily News has the latest preview, in which Coulter slams Michelle Obama as a faux-Jackie O, refers to "B. Hussein Obama" and claims the media "literally" wanted to have sex with him during the campaign.Um, Ann? Seen this?
From the Daily News, a few excerpts:
- Re: Michelle Obama: "Her obvious imitation of Jackie O's style - the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls - would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint."
- Of Cindy McCain: "dressed well without freakishly imitating famous First Ladies in history."
- And one more Michelle Obama slam: Coulter facetiously and snidely refers to Michelle Obama as a "saint" and "Mother Teresa" and suggests that her public service career "advanced in lockstep with the political advancement of her husband."
Mrs. Obama leaves your reputation in the dust, what with all those laudable accomplishments, plus bonus points for inspiring an entire nation. Wow, that must really get under your skin, which explains the motivation for those literary spasms that pass for books.
Following Coulter's own line of what passes for thinking, I wonder how she would describe Bristol Palin. "That one's" certainly no Mother Teresa.
By the way, I'm sure you've all noticed the months-long through-line of the media and our trolls that Madam's Apple regurgitated: "Media-designated saint". Was she in a coma during the press's mindless adulation of the Cod Piece in Chief? And that was for baselessly and fraudulently bombing a non-threatening, sovereign nation resulting in needless death, destruction, and worldwide scorn.
Compared to all that, Jack Abramoff and Bernard Madoff are saints.

The ENQUIRER's exclusive bombshell expose as Sen. John McCain's wife, Cindy, is caught with another man!Not only that but multiple witnesses have caught the pair lip locking on several other occasions."I couldn't believe I was watching Cindy McCain passionately kissing and hugging another man!"That's the stunned reaction of an eyewitness who says he watched in shock - and snapped photos - as the former presidential candidate's wife romantically kissed a long-haired man who resembles "a washed-up '80s rock musician."Sources told The ENQUIRER investigative team the pair have been seen at concerts and sporting events acting very lovey-doveyThe wealthy blonde heiress and her secret pal have been spotted together around her hometown of Phoenix, Arizona over the past several years, say sources. The amazing spy photos were snapped when Cindy and her companion attended the Tempe Music Festival says the person who took them. The photos are somewhat grainy, but the insider says they depict Senator John McCain's wife, who was greeted by pals at the event as "Cindy.""To my amazement, Cindy had her hand on his shoulder and was kissing him passionately on his lips," the photog told THE ENQUIRER.A second witness spotted Cindy and her "mystery man" at a Moody Blues concert "passionately kissing and hugging.""I couldn't believe it. I remember thinking, 'Go get a room!'
"They kissed and cuddled. While other concertgoers stood up to cheer and sing, Cindy and the guy remained entwined in their seats," the eyewitness said.

VIDEO: Lying about Barack Obama runs in the McCain family
By GottaLaff
How admirable. Gramm-pa has now gotten his own daughter to lie on his behalf:
Daughter Megan claims NOW endorses her dad.
The McCain camp will say anything to get elected, even if it's not true. Yesterday 10/31/08 wife Cindy and daughter Megan appeared on FOX and Friends. Megan told this whopper, which Gretchen Carlson let go without comment, as it fit perfectly with the talking point they were trying to sell (Sarah Palin is a feminist).
It's so comically easy to disprove these lies. Do they still not get that these new-fangled inventions like YouTube, computers, Tee Vee Machines, radios, and telephones exist? Communication happens, Gramm-pa. Deal.National Organization for Women PAC Endorses Obama-Biden

Friday, October 24, 2008
ARLINGTON, VA – The McCain-Palin presidential campaign today announced Mrs. Cindy McCain and Mayor Rudy Giuliani will make a surprise visit to volunteers at the Orlando Victory Office on Saturday, October 25th in Orlando, FL.
Saturday, October 25, 2008
ORLANDO, FLORIDA

WHEN: Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 6:50 p.m. EDT
WHERE: Orlando Victory Office
234 S. Semoran Blvd.
Orlando, FL 32807The obvious question is: If it’s supposed to be a surprise, wouldn’t it make sense to just show up at the Orlando office? How surprised do you suppose the volunteers would be now?
Of course, you wouldn’t want Cindy McCain and Rudy Giuliani to show their gratitude to all the hard-working volunteers without any TV cameras present.
Hey, why didn't Birthday Person look startled?

Cindy McCain is so Foxed up

Fixed Noise is mad. And when Fixed Noise is mad they get even. Remember yesterday's post about the New York Times' revealing piece on Cindy McMealTicket? Well, Fixed didn't like what the Times wrote as much as we did, so they're retaliating:
Fox News has been covering the McCain campaign's "outrage" over a Cindy McCain profile in the New York Times this weekend. But besides just reporting the story throughout the day, FNC has made it easy for those equally outraged — with a cancellation phone number and complaint email address:

The unexpurgated Cindy McCain
By GottaLaff
Sorry this is so long, but when it comes to Her Royal McTongueyness, it's hard to know where to stop:
Mrs. McCain, 54, describes herself as her husband’s best friend, though for the last two decades they have mostly lived apart, she in Arizona, he in Washington. She initially seemed like an ideal political partner, giving Mr. McCain a home state, money and contacts that jump-started his career. But as the years passed, she also became a liability at times. She played a role in the Keating Five savings-and-loan scandal, and just as her husband was rehabilitating his reputation, she was caught stealing drugs from her nonprofit organization to feed her addiction to painkillers. She has a fortune that sets the McCains apart from most other Americans, a problem in a presidential race that hinges on economic anxieties. She can be imprecise: she has repeatedly called herself an only child, for instance, even though she has two half-siblings, and has provided varying details about a 1994 mercy mission to Rwanda. [...]The ideal First Family.
Carol McCain was still a presence on the social scene, working in the Reagan White House and as an events planner. Everyone knew her story: she had stood by her husband during his captivity in North Vietnam, never passing word of a debilitating car accident, only to discover, a few years after their reunion, that he was leaving her for a younger, richer woman. [...]
Recently, Mrs. McCain has called the separations painful, volunteering that she endured several miscarriages alone. She spent subsequent pregnancies mostly confined to home, Ms. Ross said, sitting in a favorite stuffed chair, watching videos. But she rarely complained. “Her attitude was as a good soldier,” Mr. Gullet said. [...]
Her husband was accused of improperly intervening on behalf of a donor, Charles Keating, whose failed savings and loan had cost taxpayers billions. Four other senators were implicated, and one Senate spouse: Mrs. McCain. [...]
When Mrs. McCain visited Bangladesh after a cyclone, she stopped at an orphanage founded by Mother Teresa, who was not, as the campaign has said, present for the visit. Mrs. McCain returned with two baby girls; Mr. Gullet later adopted one, and Mrs. McCain informed her husband on landing that they would adopt the other. [...]
She had used the drugs, first given for back pain, to numb herself during the Keating Five investigation, she confessed to Newsweek magazine. “The newspaper articles didn’t hurt as much, and I didn’t hurt as much,“ she wrote in an essay. “The pills made me feel euphoric and free.” [...]
In interviews, some of Mrs. McCain’s statements seem questionable. She often tells of how she moved to California, leaving her children behind, for four months in 2004 to recover from a stroke that left her unable to walk or speak. But news reports from the time indicate she had few discernible impediments. She gave interviews four days afterward, attended a baseball game with her husband and a reporter several weeks later, and spoke at a Tempe, Ariz., Chamber of Commerce event. “One month out, I feel wonderful,” she told the audience. The McCain campaign declined to resolve the discrepancy. [...]
Rick Davis, a contentious figure in the McCain camp because of his lobbying ties, emerged as campaign manager, in part because Mrs. McCain, with whom he spent months traveling and fund-raising, backed him.
The McCain Camp Is Grasping At Straws

Really, if they weren't so damn evil they'd be pathetic. Via Ben-
Cindy McCain's lawyer, John Dowd, in a letter complaining of the Times's coverage of Cindy McCian, complained that the Times hasn't spent enough time covering Obama's youthful drug use and other issues:
It is worth noting that you have not employed your investigative assets looking into Michelle Obama. You have not tried to find Barack Obama's drug dealer that he wrote about in his book, Dreams of My Father. Nor have you interviewed his poor relatives in Kenya and determined why Barack Obama has not rescued them. Thus, there is a terrific lack of balance here.
In fact, the Times, like other outfits, has chased this, and one of the strangest investigative pieces of the cycle reported something that many readers of Dreams for my Father suspected: Obama had, if anything, overstated the drug use in his book.
I'm feeling particularly mean this morning, so go gawk at the effect all that drug use did to old Cindy Lou right here. I'd steal the pic, but I might scare away our readers.

Friday dump alert! Cindy McCain's taxes
By GottaLaff
Here's your latest Friday campaign dump -- the McCain has campaign released Cindy McCain's tax returns for 2007 and 2006. [...]Cindy McCain made $4.2 million in 2007; about $6.1 million in 2006. She applied for and was granted an extension on her 2007 filing. Most of the money comes from real estate, partnerships and trusts ($2.9 million in 2007 and $4.6 million in 2006).
There are no schedules, just income and taxes paid.
The campaign reason? "There is no new information on this tax return beyond the actual amount of Mrs. McCain’s income and taxes paid, because all other details of her personal and family sources of income and assets are already public," per the campaign's release.
I'm off to check out the link. I wanted to get this up asap for you.

Verizon and AT&T Provided Cell Towers for McCain Ranch
By GottaLaff
Early in 2007, just as her husband launched his presidential bid, Cindy McCain decided to resolve an old problem -- the lack of cellular telephone coverage on her remote 15-acre ranch near Sedona, nestled deep in a tree-lined canyon called Hidden Valley.
By the time Sen. John McCain's presidential bid was in full swing this summer, the ranch had wireless coverage from the two cellular companies most often used by campaign staff -- Verizon Wireless and AT&T.
Verizon delivered a portable tower know as a "cell site on wheels" -- free of charge -- to Cindy McCain's property in June in response to an online request from Cindy McCain's staff early last year. Such devices are usually reserved for restoring service when cell coverage is knocked out during emergencies, such as hurricanes.
I can't even get Verizon to give me good reception.
Of course, they have no lobbyists associated with their campaign.Ethics lawyers said Cindy McCain's dealings with the wireless companies stand out because Sen. John McCain is a senior member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees the Federal Communications Commission and the telecommunications industry. He has been a leading advocate for industry-backed legislation, fighting regulations and taxes on telecommunications services.
McCain and his campaign have close ties to Verizon and AT&T. Five campaign officials, including campaign manager Rick Davis, have worked as lobbyists for Verizon. Former McCain staffer Robert Fisher is an in-house lobbyist for Verizon and is volunteering for the campaign. Fisher, Verizon chief executive Ivan Seidenberg and company lobbyists have raised more than $1.3 million for McCain's presidential campaign and Verizon employees are among the top 20 corporate donors over McCain's political career, giving more than $155,000 to his campaigns.
McCain's Senate chief of staff Mark Buse, senior strategist Charles R. Black Jr., and several other campaign staffers have registered as AT&T lobbyists in the past. AT&T Executive Vice President Timothy McKone and AT&T lobbyists have raised more than $2.3 million for McCain. AT&T employees have donated more than $325,000 to McCain campaigns, putting the company in the No. 3 spot for career donations to McCain, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
Verizon navigated a lengthy county regulatory process that hit a snag on environmental concerns. The request ultimately prevailed when Verizon invoked the Secret Service after John McCain secured the Republican nomination.Toast.

Cindy McCain’s Keating Connection
By GottaLaff
Sen. John McCain’s wife and father-in-law continued a lucrative business partnership with disgraced financier Charles H. Keating Jr. for 11 years after the GOP presidential nominee said he ended his close friendship with Keating in March 1987.What a snuggy-wuggy, close-knit family. I bet Gramm-pa McCain had a lot to say about this!Cindy McCain’s business partnership with Keating in a real-estate development between 1986 and 1998 netted her a tidy profit, in addition to years of significant tax benefits. Her father, who died in 2000, earned similar returns.
McCain’s campaign and his Senate office did not respond to repeated phone calls and emails concerning Cindy McCain’s investment with Keating.Oh.
On Monday, McCain’s attorney, John Dowd, said in a conference call with reporters that McCain was not aware of his wife’s and father-in-law’s investment with Keating at the time it was made. “John was unconnected to that and unaware of it at the time and did not participate in it,” Dowd said.Gee. Maybe I was a little premature...
Oh. Never mind then. However, during the Keating Five Senate Ethics Committee hearings in 1990-91, McCain testified that he was aware of the family investment with Keating in early 1986.
Under questioning from Dowd, McCain said he learned of the investment from a Hensley & Co. executive.
Remember, it would have been called the Keating Four if Gramm-pa hadn't been involved. Let's not forget that, either, okay? Okay.Nor did the end of McCain’s relationship with Keating affect his immediate family’s business relationship with the financier. Cindy McCain and her father, James Hensley, remained investors in the Keating real-estate partnership that included a north Phoenix shopping center. The center sold in July 1998 for $15.4 million.
Their business relationship with Keating began April 15, 1986, when the two bought an 8 percent stake in Fountain Square Associates Ltd. Partnership. Cindy McCain and her father made the $359,100 investment through Western Leasing Co., a partnership they jointly owned. [...]
The Fountain Square sale generated the second largest amount of income from Cindy McCain’s array of investments in 1998, according to Sen. McCain’s financial disclosure statement. Only dividends from Cindy McCain’s investment in Hensley & Company stock, which exceeded $1 million, generated more income.
Cindy McCain’s and Hensley’s 1986 investment in Fountain Square earned the father and daughter team a nice return. Its greater value to the family, however, may have had more to do with politics than money. Their investment was made the same year that McCain was running for the Senate seat held by the retiring Barry M. Goldwater. Keating and his employees contributed more than $50,000 to McCain’s campaign, bringing their total contributions to McCain since 1982 to at least $112,000.

Mrs. Gramm-pa McCain: Vietnam vets with PTSD were 18-year-olds who didn’t know what they were doing.
By GottaLaff
Q: You met your husband after his POW days. To what extent is that still with you - or is it a part of history?Good to know that Gramm-pa has no symptoms, and that all that training paid off. Then there was this little tidbit:McCAIN: My husband will be the first one to tell you that that’s in the past. Certainly it’s a part of who he is, but he doesn’t dwell on it. It’s not part of a daily experience that we experience or anything like that. But it has shaped him. It has made him the leader that he is.
Q: But no cold sweats in the middle of the night?
McCAIN: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. My husband, he’d be the first one to tell you that he was trained to do what he was doing. The guys who had the trouble were the 18-year-olds who were drafted. He was trained, he went to the Naval Academy, he was a trained United States naval officer, and so he knew what he was doing.
I’ll be very frank with you: I leave the politics to my husband and to his group — although I’m very involved in it, don’t misunderstand me...Oh really? Is that right, Cin? Is that because you're not "alert" enought?
MC: You were addicted to painkillers in the early ’90s. What’s your advice to others?Beware is right. Beware of hypocrites:
CM: Beware. Beware. It’s not anything that I ever thought I could succumb to, and it happened without my even knowing it. But I’ll tell you what it has done for me: It’s made me a much better and more alert mother.
MC: What would be your priority as first lady? You might think about suggesting that to your husband and a few of his 82521650 lobbyists.
CM: Serving a cause greater than your own self-interest.

Compare this Cindy McCain post to the Michelle Obama post below
By GottaLaff
One day after she told a Tennessee newspaper Obama is running the "dirtiest campaign in American history," Mrs. McCain criticized the Illinois senator for voting against a bill to fund troops in Iraq, a regular line of attack from her husband’s campaign.
“The day that Senator Obama cast a vote not to fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body, let me tell you,” she told a Pennsylvania crowd before introducing her husband and Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin.
“I would suggest Senator Obama change shoes with me for just one day. I suggest he take a day and go watch our men and women deploying," she also said, to boisterous cheers from the campaign.
If Senator Obama were to change shoes with McMealTicket or Gramm-pa for one day, he'd have to find at least a few hundred dollars to afford them.
A CNN fact check deemed the charge that Obama voted against troop funding "misleading."Gee, really? Quel surprise.
Oh, and by the way, Mrs. McMealTicket, your husband's little notions of war, torture, funding and any and all things in between don't exactly scream support for your son.
Obama wants our soldiers home and alive. Obama wants to focus on our real enemies. And if Obama were to set so much as one toe into your or Gramm-pa's Ferragamo's, the only thing he'd end up with is horrific judgment and a case of the gout.
