VIDEO: Over the top much?

By GottaLaff

O Fortuna-itude times infinity. Positively Omen-esque.

And these people didn't think BushCo was a disaster? Have they looked at their bank accounts and insurance policies lately? Oh... that's right. They haven't had those for about eight years.

But by all means, blame Obama. Yup, that's about as rational as this.

History teaching standards tilt to right for Texas high schoolers

Go read the whole article, it's just horrific.

AUSTIN – Texas high school students will have to learn about leading conservative groups from the 1980s and 1990s – but not about liberal or minority-rights groups – under U.S. history standards tentatively adopted by a politically divided State Board of Education on Friday.

The Republican majority on the board also gave a thumbs down to requiring history teachers and textbooks to provide coverage on the late Sen. Edward Kennedy and new Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, as well as leading Hispanic civil-rights groups such as LULAC and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Led by the board's social-conservative bloc, Republicans left Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton and former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, the nation's first black justice, on the list of important figures that will have to be covered in history classes.

But they also added, on a 7-6 vote, Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly, the National Rifle Association, Moral Majority and the Heritage Foundation to the list of persons and groups that students will learn about.

How's this for a kick in the pants?
McCarthyism: Social conservatives pushed through an amendment that will require a more positive portrayal of Joseph McCarthy and his accusations that the U.S. government in the 1950s was infiltrated by Communists. McCarthy's tactics have been discredited by most historians.

The Obama Coup: The Online Game

Seems someone had the H1N1 and mistook the fever dream for a "vision". Not that the crazies haven't thrown this stuff around before.

In the game's scenario, 20 million armed American "patriots" begin seizing local and federal government offices. These are the same people whose earlier Tea Party protests had been ignored and dismissed by the mainstream media. Now, they post bounties for government employees. There's fighting in every state. Meanwhile, Lou Dobbs has been disappeared, and Glenn Beck has been found dead of an "aspirin overdose." Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly have been rounded up, and Fox News forcibly shut down.

(snip)

The website notes that this rudimentary World of Warcraft-type multiplayer game—titled "2011 Obama's Coup Fails"—is merely "an action-packed, satire-filled" entertainment. But it does say, "If current events keep transpiring as they are, then 2011 Obama's Coup may in fact become a dark chapter in American History."

Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck, On Tour Together

Man, they'll be in Tampa on my birthday. You know I want to, but $45 seems a wee bit steep, even for something as "bold and fresh" as this.

Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly are taking their acts on the road this winter for the Bold & Fresh Tour. (Guess which one is Fresh?) The title, based on O'Reilly's best-selling "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity," will hit four cities in late January.

Texas conservatives seek to shift focus of state social studies lessons, Thurgood Marshall "not a strong enough example" of a historical figure

Man, Texas sure does let the loonies have too much power.

AUSTIN – Civil rights leaders César Chávez and Thurgood Marshall – whose names appear on schools, libraries, streets and parks across the U.S. – are given too much attention in Texas social studies classes, conservatives advising the state on curriculum standards say.

"To have César Chávez listed next to Ben Franklin" – as in the current standards – "is ludicrous," wrote evangelical minister Peter Marshall, one of six experts advising the state as it develops new curriculum standards for social studies classes and textbooks. David Barton, president of Aledo-based WallBuilders, said in his review that Chávez, a Hispanic labor leader, "lacks the stature, impact and overall contributions of so many others."

Marshall also questioned whether Thurgood Marshall, who argued the landmark case that resulted in school desegregation and was the first black U.S. Supreme Court justice, should be presented to Texas students as an important historical figure. He wrote that the late justice is "not a strong enough example" of such a figure.

I especially like this parsing of the verbiage-
Barton, a former vice chairman of the Texas Republican Party, said that because the U.S. is a republic rather than a democracy, the proper adjective for identifying U.S. values and processes should be "republican" rather than "democratic." That means social studies books should discuss "republican" values in the U.S., his report said.
Really, is this a King of Hearts situation? Someone's got to be doing a Punk'd or something.

Video- Beck guest Scheuer: "The only chance we have as a country right now is" for bin Laden to "detonate a major weapon" in U.S.

Via Newshounds-

“No, sir, they will not,” Scheuer said. “The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it’s gonna take a grass roots, bottom up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans... Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.”

Is the real reason they are against a hate crimes bill just that they don't want to have to stop publicly hating? OTOH, I'd love to see those gay sacred cows. Via Think Progress.

VIDEO: Tea Partiers joke about waterboarding President Obama

By GottaLaff

Those "grassrooty" types at their pathetic Tea Pities don't seem to realize how unfunny (read: racist), unsafe, and unAmerican they are, or maybe they do:

Tea party organizers and participants have repeatedly insisted that their nationwide protests today are completely non-partisan and not meant to be anti-Obama. However, there didn’t seem to be any anti-Republican or anti-Bush signs at the protests. Instead, not only were there signs/clothing protest Obama’s policies, but some had violent or racist rhetoric.

Ironically, the AP reports that Greg Budell — a talk radio host in Montgomery, AL — said that the tea parties could “have the same impact that Montgomerian Rosa Parks had when she refused to move to the back of a city bus during segregation.”
I've already posted Oliver's photo. Now Dave Weigel from the Washington Independent reveals another sign reading, “homey don’t play dat“:

Dick Morris: Obama has repealed The Declaration of Independence

Seriously, this is starting to get tiring. You know it's not going to stop, because even if these things haven't happened by the end of Obama's first term, they'll try and spin it that the plan all along was to do it in his second term.

“I view this as almost a Dixie Chick type moment,” Hannity said about Obama's supposed “attack” on America in Europe. The only problem is, judging from his approval ratings, nobody but the people who already dislike him seem to see it that way.

Morris said, “The way I put it, Sean, is during this trip, the Declaration of Independence was repealed.” The reason, Morris claimed, was because the United States “gave up its economic sovereignty to the G20.”

You could tell from Hannity's tone that even he knew Morris had gone overboard. But rather than rebut something that might hurt Obama – no matter how ludicrous – Hannity egged on Morris. With transparent credulity, Hannity asked, “Our Declaration, our founding document... with the idea that we're endowed by our Creator, and America has paid the price for that liberty and freedom around the world. You're saying he has basically pushed that, that aside?”

“Basically, from an economic standpoint, he's repealed it,” Morris said.

VIDEO-- Hannity's America: What kind of revolution appeals most to you?

By GottaLaff

Here is what Keith Olbermann is talking about in Worst Persons:
There's a lot of talk on this board about armed revolt. I am curious what form of such a revolt the revolutionaries would prefer. I can see a few scenarios:

1. Military Coup - The military deposes the government and declares itself in charge. A junta rules until democracy can be restored, similar to what happened in Pakistan.

2. Armed Rebellion - The fed up civilian population attacks their enemies forcibly. They take to the streets, or wherever they need to go, to ultimately depose the government and install one that follows their own ideals.

3. War for secession - Individual states try to secede and perhaps ultimately must arm to do it.

[...]

Yet it seems that the ultimate paradox in any rebellion for freedom from within is that the ultimate goal is to impose the will of the rebels on everyone else through force. It seems the very foundation of representative democracy is ****tered if we accept that we exchange the the power of ideas for the power of the sword upon each other.

Nevertheless, I am still very interested in your own preferred form of revolt.
Go read the whole thing, I left out a lot. Call me crazy, but to me, this falls under the category of inciting violence. Looks like Gramm-pa McCain and Limelight Palin really got the ol' ball-o'-hate rollin', eh?

UPDATE: I've added the Countdown video and changed the blog title to reflect that.
