Dee-lish! David Corn offered to bet former Bush spokesman Brad Blakeman $1000 that he and Rove were lying about the WMD inspectors being denied access to inspection sites. Right there on the Tee Vee Machine.

March 20, 2003:

Bush urged journalists to leave the country in his television address late Monday. "For their own safety, all foreign nationals — including journalists and inspectors — should leave Iraq immediately," the president said.

Bush ordered the inspectors out. Blakeman owes David Corn $1000.

Round 2: Obama v. Senate Republicans

By GottaLaff

GObama!

After the president's visit to the House Republicans' Balitmore retreat, I'm not surprised he's up for another round.

As Tommy Christopher said in Blunt 3, Obama, and the GOP themselves, "made the Republican Right Wing Noise Machine look stupid."

Let's hope the next meeting will be equally successful.

White House daily press briefing: Health care, birthers, etc.

By GottaLaff

David Corn liveblogs (via Twitter) the White House Daily Briefing so I don't have to:
WH presser begins. AP: O considering taxing hi-end hlth ins? G: WH evaluating Kerry proposal. I have nothing more

AP: what will change dynamic on HCR, "a lit of problems." G: not a lot of problems. We're 80% there

Gibbs: no date set for Fates-Crowley beer. /And no brand chosen.

Jake asks what I asked Friday: a new deadline for HCR? G: looking forward to signing bill in fall. Again, no new deadline.

Ed Henry: what happened to letting TV cameras film all negotiations on HCR? G: O is very comfortable w level of transparency.

Henry pushes G on transp. Why not release names of health execs visiting WH b4 being sued? G: O is comfortable w WH transp.

Gibbs takes a pass on commenting on having a co-op instead of a public plan in HCR bill. /will O ever take a stand on this?

WSJ: what is WH view on prog TV adds pressing Dems on HCR G: haven't sen ads Not even OFA ads? Gibbs: no.

G: O hasn't laid down marker on public option. O backs "the option of looking at" co-ops. Confusing on if O prefers pub option

Fox: Crowley prefers Blue Moon, Gates says Red Stripe or Becks. What does O prefer? G: he had a Bud at the all-star game.

Q: any comments on 9/11 tapes re Gates episode. G: no. /Any bootlegs out yet?

Is VP becoming more of a distraction to O? G: "no". /Imagine the shortest no that Gibbs could say.

Bill Press: is there anything you can say to make the Birthers go away? G: no. "fictional nonsense"
Mark Knoller adds:
"The President was born in Honolulu, Hawaii...he's a citizen," said Gibbs today of Obama.

Gibss says of the doubters "nothing will assuage them." He says there are 10,000 more imptnt issues for people in this country to discuss.

Gibbs says Obama's status as an American has been "proven ad nauseum."
Back to David Corn:
Sam Stein: has public option been watered down too much? Is O upset by this. G suggests not. /O never gets upset about the deets of HCR.

VIDEO-- Hardball: Chris Matthews v. Ari Fleischer, the sequel

By GottaLaff

Ari Fleischer doesn't appear on Hardball in this round, but there's enough residue to go around. Oh, and this is the segment from which I got this quote:

Yesterday, Paddy posted the video of Fleischer's infuriating, condescending appearance on Hardball. Here's the sequel, including Chris Matthews' response to one rather vital snippet of Fleischer's perpetuation of BushCo lies that he missed during the original interview.

Quote-O'-The-Day: David Corn/Frank Gaffney edition

By GottaLaff

Chris Matthews, David Corn, and Frank Gaffney are hashing out the fraudulent Iraq War and its fictional connection to 9/11 on Hardball as I type this. It was like Corn and I were sharing a brain:
How do you breathe if you never pause?
--David Corn to Frank Gaffney on Hardball just now
Perfection.

VIDEO: Cheney's Iraq lies v. Matthews v. Gaffney v. Corn

By GottaLaff

Here we go again: revisionists v. realists. Who cares if there were no WMD? Cheney doesn't. It was way more important to invade an oil-rich country fraudulently, occupy it, obliterate it, and then lie about reconstruction efforts.

We should be grateful that billions of our tax dollars went toward the death and destruction of a sovereign country that was no threat to us. Know why? Because we liberated them enough to have one of their reporters employ his freedom of speech by lobbing shoes at our president and then get beaten to a pulp as a result.

There's your president's legacy, Gaffney. A just-in-case war that destroyed a country for something they were not doing.

Would You Pay $10,000 for Sarah Palin's Emails?

By GottaLaff

David Corn filed an open records request so that he could access all of Sarah Palin's official-capacity e-mails. You really should go read his post, because I can't possibly summarize the convoluted mess of hoops the Palin Bunch wants him to jump through.

Suffice it to say, she must have something to hide, or really need the money, or both. Corn's not giving up, but Also Palin is doing everything she can to discourage him.

Here's a sample:

At a time when Palin was on the hot seat as Senator John McCain's vice presidential running mate, her office replied that it would cost over $65,000 to round up all of Palin's emails and that Mother Jones would have to cover this cost.

The problem: Palin had used at least two nonofficial email accounts (such as a Yahoo account) to conduct her state business. Given that the governor's office did not have access to those accounts, its information specialists had concluded that the only way to gather all her emails would be to search the state email accounts for about 70 people who worked within the executive offices of the governor and look for emails to and from Palin's nonofficial email accounts. Palin's office estimated it would cost almost a thousand dollars for each search of these 70 or so official accounts.

She probably needs the money to reimburse Neiman Marcus.

Tito The Builder

I heard Palin going on today about "Tito The Builder". Tito is the guy in the hard hat above being "interviewed" by David Corn of Mother Jones
