Pete King's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Memory

By GottaLaff

http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/01/25/amd_peter-king.jpg

By saying that Peter King has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad memory, I'm being kind in a euphemistic kind of way. What I really meant to say is that he outright lied. (Here's a video of his punditiocy that Paddy posted earlier.)

Just now on CNN, Petey said that the ObamAdministration banned the word "terrorism", which is, of course, why Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab managed to smuggle explosives on board a jetliner.

Lose a word, gain a terrorist. See the logic?

Me neither.

No, Obama never eliminated the word "terrorism" from the government lexicon. It was the phrase "war on terror", one of the stupidest phrases ever concocted by any administration ever. That's why this administration is using different words. President Obama, rightfully, wouldn't want any association whatsoever with BushCoSpeak.

See? Some there is some change we can believe in.

So hey, Bogus Petey, check this out. It may jog your "memory":
"War on Terror" is a phrase that President Barack Obama is removing from his lexicon, after seven years of war-on-terror declarations by George W. Bush. Less than two weeks into his administration, reporters and pundits are starting to notice that Obama employs other phrases, such as "enduring struggle against terrorism and extremism." [...]

This doesn't mean Obama is going soft. He frequently refers to terrorists as "extremists," criminals whom the United States will "go after" in order to "win this fight."

Analysts are suggesting various reasons why "war on terror" is on the way out. One is that "terror" is not the name of a country or group. Another is that Obama wants to avoid labeling all Muslims or Arabs as terrorists.
Just keep flapping those distorting, cock-and-bull, deceptive, Rushpublic dirtbag lips, Representative King.

Representative. Right. Of what? Smears? Propaganda?

Yet CNN considers him to be a reliable source and valuable contributor. He and Fran Townsend have been their go-to commentators during this entire "bomber" story. And critics say blogs are inaccurate.

"Frugal Conservative" Sanford Took Expensive Flights in Europe

By GottaLaff

http://rlv.zcache.com/mark_sanford_dont_cry_for_me_im_in_argentina_tshirt-p235608297378106648o7i1_400.jpg

Sing along, EVERYone! "Don't fly for me, Argentina-a-a!"
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), "already facing scrutiny for expensive taxpayer-funded flights, relied on charter jet services costing more than $63,000 when traveling in Europe on two state business trips," an Associated Press investigation has found.

"Throughout his political career, Sanford has cast himself as a frugal conservative, known to demand that state employees use both sides of Post-It notes. His 2002 gubernatorial campaign included attacks against other state officials for what he called wasteful travel expenses."

The real Joe Wilson

By GottaLaff

http://www.salem-news.com/stimg/september122009/2.jpg

I guess "Addison's" big mouth was overcompensating for his tiny... military career:
Joe Wilson, real name "Addison" presents himself as a hard boiled combat veteran, retired Army colonel and all around tough guy.

He belongs to "white supremacist" organizations, fought hard to keep the Confederate flag in South Carolina and, when an aide to the notorious racist Strom Thurmond admitted Thurmond had a half African-American daughter, Wilson abused and threatened the woman in an attempt to shut her up.

Yeah, but at least he doesn't lie like President Obama does, right? So what if he's partial to white?

Born in 1947, Wilson was prime material for the Vietnam War. After taking deferment after deferment for college and law school, in 1972, Wilson was glided into a coveted Army Reserve billet, protecting him from service in Vietnam.

He quit in 1975 with the fall of Saigon and transferred to the National Guard where he was a Judge Advocate, a "lawyer."

Wow, he must be pooped after all that combat!

Wilson has one of the worst records in Congress, having voted against Veteran funding 11 times. The only "veteran" Wilson has helped is himself.

That's Rushpublican for "sacrifice".

Though ending up with full health insurance and a fat military retirement, Joe Wilson, like Senator Lindsay Graham, both passed more qualified serving officers who were deployed to combat and moved into high paying positions as full Colonels, all done using political clout.

That's Rushpublican for "self-made man".

This gives both Wilson and his good friend and reportedly highest ranking gay officer in the US military, Lindsay Graham, substantial "double dip" retirements without ever having to actually serve in the real military and, especially, not during the Vietnam War.

Quit being so petty. I'm sure his political rival never even set foot in a recruitment office, let alone a combat zone. What a girly man!

Wilson's opponent in the upcoming election is Rob Miller, 13 year US Marine with 2 combat tours in Iraq.

Never mind.

Wilson, close friend and confidant of Fox Entertainment reality show host Glenn Beck is a strong advocate of private health care.

In fact he received over $ 400,000 in political donations from the health care industry in support of his position.

That's Rushpublican for "sex".

Insiders say that Beck helped stage the Wilson "impromptu theater" during the Presidents address to Congress, offering full support from Fox News in exchange for Wilson's violation of traditional Southern good manners, something Wilson has little familiarity with.

That's Rushpublican for "honest".

He is an outspoken advocate for veterans and his powerful words have brought about change. Gordon is a lifelong PTSD sufferer from his war experiences and he is empathetic to the plight of today's veterans also suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Reporters Who Know Tom DeLay-- Quadriplegic Story: Huh?

By GottaLaff

Tom DeLay was on Hardball yesterday, as you can see here, and told a very strange story about protesters at a health care town hall in the '80s who "brought in quadriplegics on gurneys and dumped them on the floor in front of my podium."

As I watched him talk, I experienced a major Scooby Doo "whaaa?" moment. I wasn't the only one:
Two journalists who've covered Tom DeLay extensively over the years tell TPMmuckraker they've never heard of his story [...]

"Jan Reid and I (and a researcher) spent a full year, reading clips and running down sources. Nowhere did I see any mention of quadriplegics brought in on gurneys," Lou Dubose, co-author of The Hammer: God, Money, and the Rise of the Republican Congress, tells TPMmuckraker in an e-mail. "We would have used if we had it." [...]

Susan DuQuesnay Bankston, who worked for the Fort Bend Star from the mid-1980s until last year, including as a political columnist, followed DeLay closely over the years and attended many of his town halls. [...] Of DeLay's story about quadriplegics being "dumped" in front of his podium at a town hall, Bankston says: "No incident like this ever occurred." If it had happened, "the chances of us hearing about it were one hundred percent."
It might be really helpful to his image [sic] if Tommy Boy didn't hit the bottle before appearing on national TeeVee shows, hold up his shiny new dancing shoes, and tell whoppers.

Who's up for a new reality show, "Dancing with the Liars"?

Mika Defends Joe in NYTimes, and Shows Her Stripes

Whatev, he's still a humongous dick. Worst case of Stockholm Syndrome I've ever seen.

In a letter to the The New York Times, published in the A section of today's paper, MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski defends her co-host Joe Scarborough while describing herself as a "liberal."

My television and radio co-host has spent the last five years being equally tough on Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington. Joe was one of the first TV reporters to criticize the Bush White House during Hurricane Katrina. And while others were writing of a permanent Republican majority, Joe was predicting the collapse of the G.O.P. because of its reckless economic policies.

Joe's evenhanded approach angers harsh ideologues on both sides. Last week, he was attacked by right-wing hosts for being too open-minded, and now by your liberal editorial page.

This liberal thinks The New York Times should follow Joe Scarborough's example of speaking truth to power - regardless of which party is in power.

Jindal Admits Katrina Story Was False

By GottaLaff

Remember Ba-ba-ba-Bobby Jindal's little story about his bff Sheriff Lee? So do I! Aren't we something? Well, Ladedoodah Day, guess what? He's admitting it was a lie!

Looks like the game is up.

Remember that story Bobby Jindal told in his big speech Tuesday night -- about how during Katrina, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with a local sheriff who was battling government red tape to try to rescue stranded victims?

Turns out it wasn't actually, you know, true. [...]

[A] Jindal spokeswoman has admitted to Politico that in reality, Jindal overheard Lee talking about the episode to someone else by phone "days later." The spokeswoman said she thought Lee, who died in 2007, was being interviewed about the incident at the time.

This is no minor difference. Jindal's presence in Lee's office during the crisis itself was a key element of the story's intended appeal, putting him at the center of the action during the maelstrom. Just as important, Jindal implied that his support for the sheriff helped ensure the rescue went ahead. But it turns out Jindal wasn't there at the key moment, and played no role in making the rescue happen.

There's a larger point here, though. The central anecdote of the GOP's prime-time response to President Obama's speech, intended to illustrate the threat of excessive government regulation, turns out to have been made up.

Busted. Mr. Toast. Mr. Burnt Toast.

Justice Department's Schlozman called career lawyers "libs", "pinkos", "treacherous"

By GottaLaff

Video is from his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, re: U.S. Attorney hirings and firings

Schlozman is the sleazy little high-talker who made false statements to Congress, but never got prosecuted. In other words, he's typically BushCoian:

A report out today describes what is unquestionably the most blatant case of inappropriate consideration of politics in the hiring of career lawyers at the Justice Department under the tenure of former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The report is strongly critical of Bradley Schlozman, a former deputy in the Civil Rights Division who also served as its acting director.

According to the Justice Department's inspector general, Schlozman regularly made reckless comments about lawyers and applicants for jobs that he considered too liberal -- which, for him, apparently covered a lot of ground.

He called some career lawyers "libs" and "pinkos" and described others as "disloyal," "not on the team" or "treacherous." Those he endorsed he called "RTA's," which stood for "right thinking Americans."

An analysis of the hirings under his watch found that 64% were Republicans or conservatives, compared with only 4% of the hirings in which he was not involved. Two percent of the hirings were Democrats or liberals under Schlozman, compared to 23% when he was not involved.

This pathetic excuse for a human being should be squashed like a bug, along with the rest of the thugs in the Bush crime family.

From the Dep't. of Duh: Group finds more than a dozen lies in Coulter's latest book

By GottaLaff

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/karenvg/Ann_Coulter.gif
Original post about the self-parodying Madam's Apple's appalling screed here.
Media Matters has catalogued at least thirteen major falsehoods Coulter makes in her book. Among them include (excerpts):

* On Page 15, Coulter writes, "Fox News has never been caught promoting a fraud -- unlike CBS (Bush National Guard story), ABC (tobacco industry report), NBC (exploding GM trucks), CNN (Tailwind), and MSNBC (Keith Olbermann)."

* Coulter advances several falsehoods about Kerry in defending the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth...

* Coulter falsely claims that "the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth weren't forced to retract any part of their story. [Page 100]"

* Coulter also suggests that the media ignored the allegations of the Swift Boat Veterans, writing, "The only way they could have gotten less attention would have been to be interviewed on Air America Radio."

* Coulter also falsely suggests that no witnesses supported Kerry's account that his convoy came under enemy fire during the March 13, 1969, actions for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.

* Coulter writes that Kerry "carrie[d] a home-movie camera to war in order to reenact combat scenes and tape fake interviews with himself" during his tour in Vietnam [Page 100].

* Coulter devotes four pages of Guilty [173-176] to discussing her false assertion that "Obama himself compared Palin to a pig and then denied doing so."
I listed the lies, not the corrections. You can find all the details here.

I've already subjected you to my rant about Madam's in my previous post. However, I encourage you to let loose in Comments. There is no limit. Rant freely and often.

Bush considering "orderly bankruptcy" for automakers

By GottaLaff

Another bait and switch. Did we ever really buy the idea of BushCo really and truly throwing a life preserver to union guys:
The Bush administration is looking at “orderly” bankruptcy as a possible way to deal with the desperately ailing U.S. auto industry, the White House said Thursday as carmakers readied more plant closings and a half million Americans filed new jobless claims. [...]

President George W. Bush, asked about an auto bailout, said he hadn’t decided what he would do but didn’t want to leave a mess for Barack Obama who takes office a month from Saturday.
Of course not. He's all about making Obama look good and helping him succeed so that we'll be treated to a second Obama term. That's just the kinda guy Bush is.
The Big Three automakers said anew that bankruptcy wasn’t the answer, as did an official of the United Auto Workers who called the idea unworkable and even dangerous.

VIDEO-- Bush: ‘I Never Said The Taliban Was Eliminated’

By GottaLaff

Twelve seconds of video proves what a liar you are, Idiot in Chief, as do the following:

September 2002: “The Taliban’s ability to brutalize the Afghan people and to harbor and support terrorists has been virtually eliminated.”

April 2002: “With the Taliban eliminated and al-Qaida badly damaged, we have moved into the second stage of our war on terror.”

At other times, Bush prematurely declared victory using similar language:

September 2004: “And as a result of the United States military, Taliban no longer is in existence. And the people of Afghanistan are now free.”

December 2004: “In Afghanistan, America and our allies, with a historically small force and a brilliant strategy, defeated the Taliban in just a few short weeks.”

October 2005: “Over the years these extremists have used a litany of excuses for violence — the Israeli presence on the West Bank, or the U.S. military presence in Saudi Arabia, or the defeat of the Taliban, or the Crusades of a thousand years ago.”

He lies so often, he couldn't possibly keep track of all his contradictions. Then again, even if he did, he wouldn't care.

Bush opens up on struggle with alcohol abuse

US President George W. Bush drinks a traditional pisco sour**.

Seems to me that he's been pretty open about it but the reporters never bothered to do their job.
CNN was the only media outlet invited to attend the entire meeting, which other reporters joined in the final minutes for remarks from the president.

Several in the room, including Don Coyhis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, who runs a program targeting Native Americans battling substance abuse, were recovered addicts or alcoholics.

Bush, who quit drinking at the age of 40, was impressed.

"Congratulations on 30 years of sobriety," the president told Coyhis. "I'm eight years behind you."

Bobby Jindal says not interested in being president

By GottaLaff

Jindal says he's not interested in running for president .
Bobby Jindal says he's not interested? Then he'd make the perfect Republican candidate, because more than likely, he just proved himself to be a liar:
Bobby Jindal — the Indian-American Louisiana governor who is widely viewed as one of the frontrunners for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination — flatly said Tuesday he's not interested in seeking the White House.

"No," Jindal said definitively when asked if he was interested in being president, according to The Associated Press. [...]

Jindal said instead he has his sights set on seeking reelection to his current office in 2011.

Yeah, right. And my name is Sarah Palin.

But AP reports Jindal, whom many Republicans view as best positioned to transform the party's image, did not rule out the possibility he may change his mind about a White House run.

Ahhh, there we go. Bingo. The perfect flip-flopping Republican candidate.

I.W.R.C.'s* M.R.M.I.A.

By GottaLaff

I.W.R.C.* Palin's Medical Records M.I.A.:
With less than 48 hours until polls open, it remains unclear whether GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will release her medical records.

Nearly a week ago, her spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt said the campaign was preparing "a release of information regarding her medical history" which "will happen sooner rather than later."

No such information has yet been released, and Schmitt did not respond to e-mails seeking comment on the matter.

If nothing else, it confirms to the country what a liar she is.

Gramm-pa McCain's Campaign Exaggerates Crowd Size

By GottaLaff

They say if a man has small crowds then he has a small...
following:

WVEC-TV: "The Virginia Beach Fire Marshal's office estimated the size of the crowd to be 12,000. A McCain campaign spokeswoman claimed the crowd size was 25,000, but the Convention Center's capacity is only 16,000.
And if a man has to lie about size, well, let's just call him a man with shortcomings and leave it at that..

OOPS! Gramm-pa McCain aided lobbyist/developer's bargain-price purchase of Fort Ord land

By GottaLaff

It never ends (via The Monterey County Herald) (go here for enlargements of documents):

An Arizona businessman with help from Sen. John McCain's office paid the federal government a mere fraction of the market value when he bought a Fort Ord land parcel in 1999, an Army appraisal obtained by The Herald shows.

Donald R. Diamond, an 80-year-old real estate developer, lobbyist and top fundraiser for McCain's presidential campaign, bought the land for $250,000, though it was valued at $7.2 million, according to Pentagon appraisals made three years before the sale.

He held on to the parcel for a little more than two years before selling it and the buildings on it for an estimated profit of more than $18 million.

Read that again: Pentagaon appraisals. The military, Gramm-pa POW? Yes, the military, the Army, appraised the land. Are you going to call them terrorists, too?

When negotiating with the Army over the no-bid sale, Diamond had more than one advantage on other potential buyers. He held a lease on the land that would have made it difficult for the Army to find another buyer. When Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, later criticized the Army for "giving away" Fort Ord land during the 1990s, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Paul "PJ" Johnson said, "That was a very complicated realignment and closure at Fort Ord."

But it was McCain's office, as reported earlier this year by The New York Times and The Herald, that Diamond credited with helping smooth out problems he encountered. At the time, McCain served on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The appraisal documents were obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request. Diamond and McCain's Senate office declined to comment for this story.

Of course they did. They don't talk to the press, just ask IWRC* Palin. Never mind, she won't answer. It gets better:

Under oath in a taped interview as part of the Bakewell lawsuit, Diamond said McCain came to his assistance after the purchase negotiations became "bogged down."

"I asked him if he could help expedite it," Diamond said.

Although McCain's Senate office did not respond to questions from The Herald, earlier this year a McCain spokeswoman told The New York Times that the senator "had done nothing for Mr. Diamond that he would not do for any other Arizona citizen."

But Diamond is no ordinary constituent.

Besides being a leading developer in McCain's home state, he is a pro-Israel lobbyist in Washington, D.C., and is among the elite "innovators" group whose members have individually raised $500,000 or more for McCain's presidential bid, according to the candidate's campaign Web site.

Diamond served as national finance co-chairman for McCain's presidential exploratory committee, and in court documents he describes himself as a longtime friend of the Republican senator.

Farr found it more than a little unusual an Arizona senator would become involved in a land deal in California.

"This, to me, was just sort of out of the box," Farr said recently. "Senators don't usually mess around in other states."

Diamond said McCain assigned Ann Sauer, a senior aide to McCain, to the case.

Sauer was well known around the Pentagon and previously worked as a staff member for the Senate Armed Services Committee. She is a vice president in charge of Washington operations for Lockheed Martin Corp.

Who's going to pick this story up? Keith? Rachel?
