Tim Russert: When you reflect on what we are witnessing, just put that in the context of our nation and the whole issue of race, it's breathtaking. But now he has to present himself to all voters, all 300 million people, and say, "I can be your leader and make the tough decisions about war and peace." McCain used the word "change" tonight 32 times. He didn't say, I am the candidate of experience, but that Obama didn't have the judgment. If Obama can convince us of his good judgment, then he will win the White House.
It's important for Senator Clinton not to validate people who want to vote against Obama. She'll have to pro-actively say that she's a true partner, or she risks her own position in the party. If McCain is now going to be the McCain of 2000, that doesn't come free. It may help him with Independents, but not with the base. Rove says this is an election of base vs. base. We know the Obama base is energized, but can McCain get his base to do the same? What a night!
