I found it pretty interesting what other 'historic' things happened today.

1896—Henry Ford test-drives the Quadricycle, the first automobile he ever designed.

1919—Congress, in a joint resolution, approves the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, giving women the right to vote.

1934—President Franklin Roosevelt asks Congress to appropriate $52.5 million in drought-relief assistance as the nation battled the economic and social disasters born of the Dust Bowl.

1942—Fought almost entirely with aircraft, the Battle of Midway sees the United States deal a decisive blow to Japan's naval strength, including the loss of four aircraft carriers, two large cruisers, and three destroyers.

1989—Several hundred civilians, mainly students, are shot dead by the Chinese Army during a bloody military operation that aimed to crush a democratic protest in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
