Don Siegelman: "This is the shortest route to Karl Rove.""

Speaking of one of the good guys, Governor Don Siegelman is on the Thom Hartmann Show right this minute:

Don: We have placed Rove at the scene of the crime... via Canary's wife [he was the campaign manager of Siegelman's opponent who was recruited to run by Karl Rove]. The prosecutor's husband had talked to Karl, and Karl talked to the DoJ and they were gonna nail me. Now Rove is claiming executive privilege, which means he's talked to the President about this! Otherwise he couldn't claim executive privilege.

Thom: So Bush is personally involved with political prosecutions.

Don: Or it's Rove's way of wiggling out of testifying in front of Congress. E-mail your representatives to encourage them to keep digging. We must preserve justice and restore our democracy. We can't let Rove operatives get away with this. This is about America. Our only and best hope is with Congress.

Don: Why would Rove be interested in Alabama? He came there from Texas and was recruited by Bill Canary, who was special assistant to George HW Bush. He was Andrew Card's deputy. He would be dropped in wherever they wanted something fixed. It was his wife who prosecuted me. They're not prosecuting Canary. He could lead to Rove, and can't claim executive privilege. He's a high level Republican political operative. He happens to live in Alabama because he married someone from there. Rove has a connection to Alabama, which is why he was here. They needed to get rid of me. This is about holding those people responsible who subverted our Constitution and hijacked the Department of Justice.

Thom: This isn't confined to Alabama or Canary's wife.

Don: It's not. This is the shortest route to Karl Rove. His fingerprints are all over this case. Conyers wrote to Rove's lawyer Luskin yesterday. Rove/Luskin tried to separate this from the U.S. Attorney's case, and Conyers said that's not acceptable.

No, it's not at all acceptable.
