Blanche Lincoln: Retirement Rumors ‘Outlandish’, has $5 mil in campaign cash

By GottaLaff

http://i.usatoday.net/communitymanager/_photos/on-politics/2010/01/26/Blanchex-inset-community.jpg

Blanche is feeling her $5 million oats. Interesting attitude, considering just yesterday, the Tee Vee Machine commentators swore she was a goner:
The important announcement is this: Lincoln is raising a lot of money. Her campaign took in $1.3 million in the fourth quarter and has $5 million cash on hand, according to her statement. [...]

A Rasmussen Reports survey released this month showed Lincoln trailing all four GOP candidates who were matched against her in the poll, ranging from 8 to 12 percentage points.
Oh, so she's delusional. That's always a healthy trait for a candidate to have.

As for all those pesky rumors about her retirement, they were premature:
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) on Tuesday dismissed rumors that she is planning to retire at the end of this Congress and forgo a long-planned re-election campaign.
Whatever floats your boat, Blanche.

"The GOP just got its clock cleaned"

By GottaLaff

http://www.stinque.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/gop-seal.jpg

How's that NY-23 spin going for you now, conservaloons?
Politico notes that "lost amid the Republican euphoria surrounding Tuesday's elections is this inconvenient fact: The GOP just got its clock cleaned, again, in another high-stakes House special election."

"It shouldn't have come as a surprise, since Republicans have lost 20 of the past 29 House special elections, dating back to January 2003. And in perhaps the most worrisome aspect of the trend, the GOP lost its fifth consecutive competitive special election in Republican-friendly territory."

Poll-itics: More Southerners Say Obama Has Done Better Job Than Bush

By GottaLaff

Leave it to Greg to find the nugget:
[T]he internals show that a majority of southerners thinks Obama has done a better job than native son Bush:

Fifty-seven percent say Obama has been a better president than George W. Bush; only a third say Bush’s track record was better.

“Compared to Obama, Bush does fairly well among southerners and rural voters. But even in those categories, a majority still says Obama has done a better job than Bush,” says Holland.

I don't believe I heard this brought up on the Tee Vee Machine, did you?

Boy Georgie Fail, big time (to quote his boss).

There are more details here.

Norm Coleman Could Possibly, Maybe, If It Makes Sense, Run For Governor Of Minnesota

By GottaLaff

Toker Norm isn't qualified to run for Sarah Palin's personal assistant, let alone governor of a state that recently determined he's The Biggest Loser:

Former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), who lost to Democrat Al Franken in the heavily-disputed 2008 Minnesota Senate race, is still keeping the door open on a possible run for Governor of Minnesota in 2010.

Coleman told Minnesota Public Radio: "I'm doing what I want to do right now but sometime early next year I will reflect on [a gubernatorial run] and if it makes sense for Minnesota, if it makes sense for me and my family then I can move in that direction. But I have deliberately not put a lot of thought into it."

"If it makes sense for Minnesota"? That does it, then. No way he can run. None. Zero.

Dep't. of DUH! Lieberman Could Run as Republican

By GottaLaff

You're kidding! You could knock me over with a feather! Really? No way! Never!
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) told Politico he was unsure whether he would run for re-election in 2012 as a Democrat or an independent.

Said Lieberman: "Or a Republican. I have all sorts of options."
I think he meant, he was unsure whether he could lose as a Democrat, an independent, or a Rushpublic.

Glenn Beck Has Lost over 50% of His Ad Dollars

By GottaLaff

http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/s-GLENN-BECK-CRYING-large.jpghttp://unreasonablysafe.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/glenn-beck-goes-crazy-in-radio-show-pin-head-funny-comedy.jpg
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/stills/BehindTheScenesGlennBeck.flv.jpg

This reminds me of that old ad in which a stereo sound system blasted so strongly that the listener had to hold on tightly to his easy chair so he wouldn't fly backwards, and his hair flew back as if in a wind tunnel.

Feel that blast of wind blowing you away, Blech?
Our campaign to hold Glenn Beck accountable for his race-baiting and fear-mongering has been a great success, with 62 advertisers making it clear that they don't want their brands linked to Beck's vile rhetoric. Up until now, however, there's been a question of what the real consequences are for Beck and for Fox, especially as Beck's ratings have soared. It's starting to become clear.
Ooo, ooo! Clarify! I'm ready. I'm holding on to my chair arms:

Today, we're announcing that Glenn Beck's show has lost over 50% of its advertising dollars since just before our campaign started. From our press release about the news:

The advertising boycott of Glenn Beck has cost the controversial host over half of his estimated advertising revenue since it was launched by ColorOfChange.org a month ago. This according to data analyzed from industry sources.

Estimated advertising revenue [the total amount of advertising money being spent during a block of commercial time for a program] was collected on a week-by-week basis for a period of two months. According to the data collected, the amount of money spent by national advertisers on Beck's program per week was at its highest at approximately $1,060,000, for the week ending August 2, 2009. ColorOfChange.org launched their campaign at the end of that week and since then, 62 advertisers have distanced themselves from Beck. Data collected for the week ending September 6, 2009 shows Beck's estimated ad revenue at $492,000, equal to a loss of $568,000.

"Fox News Channel has consistently claimed they haven't lost revenue as advertisers abandon Glenn Beck, but the numbers prove otherwise," said James Rucker, Executive Director of ColorOfChange.org. "Fox News Channel has a limited amount of ad positions. If 62 companies refuse to run ads on two of their 24 hours of programming, they are losing inventory. No matter how high Beck's ratings have been lately, advertisers still see Beck as toxic and don't want him associated with their brands. There is no way that Fox News Channel is making the money they should be making with Glenn Beck."

[...]

More than ever, it's time to keep the pressure on. You can help by joining us in thanking the advertisers that have stopped supporting Glenn Beck, and calling on those whose ads are still running on his show to follow suit.

Whoooosh!

Joe the Mouther Wilson hires professional Tweeter

By GottaLaff

I posted a couple of his Tweets previously, but now we see he needed someone to help him out... because, you know, it's hard to speak in simple sentences of 140 characters or less:
Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) has hired a new-media strategist to help with a vigorous defense launched after heckling the president.

David All, who bills his firm as the first conservative Web 2.0 agency, was retained Thursday afternoon amid the media storm surrounding Wilson’s “You lie!” outburst. Since then, All has been busy writing Twitter updates and reaching out to conservative blogs on Wilson's behalf.
Why, he could be the next Sarah the Quitter! Isn't it presh the way they both have ghost writers to spread their dufusness?
The South Carolina Republican’s defense is focused on social media, including a taped YouTube video message to supporters, a flurry of Twitter messages, numerous interviews with bloggers and an ad on the Drudge Report.
My post that includes the YouTube is right here.
Enter All, a former communications director for Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) and a self-described fan of the late Lee Atwater, the famed strategist who ran President George H.W. Bush’s campaign.

“I got the call at 2 o’clock yesterday,” All said in an interview with The Hill. “He already knew he wanted to respond, it’s just a matter of having someone help quarterback and toss the ball when needed.”

Two hours later, Wilson’s Twitter feed went into overdrive. Over the next five hours, Wilson posted 15 Tweets, four shy of his total count for the entire month of August.

Among the Tweets, Wilson describes granting interviews to Erick Erickson of RedState.com, Jillian Bandes of Townhall.com and John Hawkins of RightWingNews. He also made a plea for conservative assistance.
He sure needed a lot of help defending himself for someone who felt he behaved badly enough to apologize publicly. Apparently, he doesn't take his own regret seriously.

Oh, but we already knew that, didn't we?
All acknowledged that Wilson is not personally writing each of his Tweets. “He is certainly aware of all of the Tweets and understands the substance of all of the Tweets and what’s happening,” All said. “He is not exactly pressing send.”
That's a relief! He's conscious! Who could ask for a better qualified Congressperson than that?

BREAKING: Coleman concedes

By GottaLaff

When Pigs Fly Animated GIF Pork Bacon Hog
Toker Norm just congratulated Al Franken and said he'd abide by the court ruling.

He accepts loss, says MSNBC's headline.

He also thanked Amy Klobuchar. Thank her? She deserves a medal.

He says he's "at peace".

"2008 is over... we should all work together." Yeah, but it's now 7 months into 2009. What took you so long?

He says he's "not looking back." Maybe he should have thought of that months ago.

He won't comment on running for governor... wants to go "catch fish". Address the future another day, he says.

Poll-itics: Obama Leads Republicans By 21 Points — On Terrorism!

By GottaLaff

loser smiley, animation smiley, animated smiley, loser smiley

But.. but... the Rushpublics are accusing President Obama of being weak and wishy-washy on terrorism, that whole Iran thing, you name it. You mean to tell me they're... wrong? Again?

[I]nternals of the new Washington Post/ABC News poll:

Who do you trust to do a better job handling the threat of terrorism — (Obama) or the (Republicans in Congress)?

Obama 55%

Republicans in Congress 34%

A year ago, when the conventional wisdom held during the campaign that terrorism was a weak point for Obama, would you have predicted that he would come to hold a 21-point lead over the GOP on the issue? [...]

It’s pretty clear that Republicans aren’t being accorded a heck of a lot of credibility on what was once one of their core issues. And Cheney’s role as lead spokesperson for the GOP position on that issue isn’t doing the party much good, either.
Gee, ya think? Who wouldn't want a cold, warmongering, lying sociopath as their spokesperson?

GOP National Security Attacks On Obama at Odds with Defense Pros

By GottaLaff

http://www.trendyeventsandparties.com/images/the_20trendy_20spot_20logo_1__4eg9.jpg
Don't you just love a good trend? They're so... trendy:

A striking trend worth watching: The national security attacks GOP leaders are lobbing at Obama are putting them increasingly at odds with former allies in Washington’s permanent Defense establishment, many of whom are agreeing with Obama and sometimes even condemning the GOP attacks as baseless. Consider:

* Guantanamo: Senator Mitch McConnell and many other Republicans have condemned Obama’s plan to close Guantanamo [...]

But Colin Powell supports closing Guantanamo, and James Baker does too... [a]nd General David Petraeus agrees, saying that “Gitmo has caused us problems” [...]

* Mirandizing terrorists: House GOP leader John Boehner condemned Obama today for allegedly Mirandizing terrorists, [...] John Cornyn also attacked on this today.

But Petraeus said yesterday that he has “no concerns at all” about the practice, adding: “This is the FBI doing what the FBI does.”

* Torture: It’s opposed by Petraeus and Powell.

* Funding for the IMF: GOP leaders Eric Cantor and Boehner have repeatedly said that Obama’s request for Congressional funding for the International Monetary Fund could help terrorists [...]

But Defense Secretary Robert Gates and National Security Adviser James Jones say the opposite: That not funding the IMF could increase global terrorism and endanger our security. Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger and Powell also back the IMF funding.

**************************************

We have ourselves a trend. [...] It’s a clear sign that Obama’s national security positions (for good or for ill) are squarely in the mainstream of the D.C. Defense establishment. And it shows that the GOP’s need to attack those positions has forced Republican officials outside that mainstream, isolating them further and putting them at odds with its onetime allies in that establishment.

Those trendsetting Rushpublics... they're just so on top of what's hottt and what's... nottt.

Tucker "Drudge" Carlson to launch right-leaning HuffPo alternative

By GottaLaff

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eat-the-press/Tucker-bares-it-thumb.jpg
The Tee Vee machine is done with him, so he's going for Drudge Lite:

Pundit Tucker Carlson publicly announced Tuesday that a right-leaning news site resembling the Huffington Post he's been planning will go live within weeks.

Carlson will launch TheDailyCaller.com, which he said would focus on reporting on the Obama administration and "adding facts to the conversation."

Facts? So he's planning on a departure from his past punditiocy?

"We are a general-interest newspaper-format style site," Carlson told conservative bloggers at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday. "There just aren't enough people covering this administration and telling the people what's going on."

... because if there's one thing that's been lacking, it's Obama news. Good journalistic eye, Schmucker.

"Tell the truth, and be accurate," Carlson said of the venture's goals. "It's very important to live up to the basic standards of journalism."

What took you so long?

Carlson said that the site's reporters would share in the profits based on how much traffic is drawn in by their work. He said the site would seek to "drive" the news, similar to the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post, the New York Times, and other major news outlets. (The site's motto, Carlson said, is "every seven minutes," and seeks to be "even faster than Drudge.") [...]

"It will not be a forum for discussing the future of the Republican Party," Carlson explained.

That's because there is no future of the Rushpublic Party... which bodes really well for The Daily Caller.

Revenge is sweet: Janeane Garofalo Gets Last Laugh On Hannity,Tea Baggers

By GottaLaff

Janeane, watch the swinging tea bag... back and forth... back and forth... you will fail... you will fail... But, oops, the tea baggers were the ones who epically failed in an epically big epic way:

[T]he clown who came up with idea to scoop up tickets to Garofalo’s show in order to hurt her by making her richer is truly hilarious. Secondly, Hannity offers no evidence whatsoever that any tickets were sold to tea baggers, much less “many” as Hannity claimed. Lastly, the threat to which Hannity is referring from the article in the Herald really comes down to a single anonymous e-mailer with anger management issues:

“This (bleep) is gonna hear it from Boston,” the anonymous e-mailer said. “All us bigots and racists are buying up tix to let this piece of excrement hear it from us. shame on her.”

Despite the cantankerous warning from the mad e-mailer, and Hannity’s free publicity for it, the turnout of angry tea baggers was decidedly underwhelming. In fact, according to an update in the Herald, Garofalo performed her entire, nearly sold-out set without interruption from inside or outside the theater. She even had a bit of fun with them on stage saying…

“If there are any tea baggers here, welcome, and white power.”

As it turns out, Hannity’s contention that “many of the tickets” were sold to tea baggers was, not surprisingly, a lie. And it looks like Garafalo did end up getting the last laugh. But Hannity was right about one thing: Revenge is sweet.

Vandals hit Coleman's house again -- this time with eggs

By GottaLaff

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/9692/ruthkellytv4.jpg
How this one got by me for two days, I'll never know:

A week that started out badly for Norm Coleman went further downhill Tuesday night after a vandal lobbed eggs at his house in St. Paul, according to a police report.

Police reported that the egging occurred about 9: 20 p.m. Tuesday, when an unidentified person in the house saw a man outside of it. [...]

The vandalism occurred one day after a three-judge panel ruled that Democrat Al Franken won the race for the Senate seat Coleman used to hold.

It's not the first time his home has been vandalized. Last fall, Coleman's house -- and those owned by five other members of the state's congressional delegation -- were spray-painted with graffiti.

Toker Norm should be walking on egg shells. Instead he's scrambled around, egged on by his lawyers, trying to deprive Minnesota of their senator. The yolk's on him, though. The election may not be over easy, but even some hard boiled Rushpublics are realizing that it's Toker Norm who has ended up with egg on his face.

Yes, I'm done. But now I'm really in the mood for an omelet.

Update to the latest (John) Ziegler Follies

By GottaLaff

Earlier I posted a video revealing John Ziegler's latest psycho antics, or the Ziegler Follies as I shall now call them. But what have we here? Why, I believe it's called The Truth:

This afternoon, the Huffington Post spoke to James Grant, the Executive Director of Media Relations for USC. Their version of events goes a little counter to Ziegler's narrative.

According to Grant, in the days before his eventual appearance on campus, Ziegler publicly announced his intention to demonstrate at the Couric event. USC was happy to accomodate Ziegler, and provided him with a designated area, where he could register his protest, be seen by event attendees and the student body, and pass out whatever materials he wished. These arrangements were ready upon Ziegler's arrival.

However, according to Grant, Ziegler showed up for the event making unexpected demands. He was no longer a demonstrator. Now, he was a journalist, with cameramen in tow, insistent that he had a right to enter the event. Told that the event was invitation only, Ziegler contended that he had the right to range up and down the entryway and stick microphones into the faces of attendees.

Said Grant, "The University both respects and facilitates the right to free speech, but we reserve the right to set reasonable ground rules that respect the rights of everyone, and provide for the safety and security of the University community." Ziegler, opting against the ground rules that had been mutually agreed to, was given the choice of leaving campus or being arrested, and eventually chose to leave campus.

This guy's entire professional life is an epic fail. If you need further proof, watch him in this dating video. You remember, the one in which he gets rejected? Yeah, that one.

James Dobson: We've lost the culture wars

By GottaLaff

dobson.jpg
Welcome to today's episode of "Blaming Bill", brought to you by James "Show Me the Money" Dobson:

In a farewell address to the staff of Focus on the Family, James Dobson conceded that evangelical conservatives had lost most of the recent so-called “culture war” battles. Attributing the right’s recent failures to the “internet” and the election of Bill Clinton, Dobson said, “Humanly speaking, we can say that we have lost.” He added that the nation is now “absolutely awash in evil“:

The battles that we fought in the Eighties now, we were victorious in many of those conflicts with the culture, trying to defend righteousness, trying to defend the unborn child, trying to preserve the dignity of the family and the definition of marriage. We fought all those battles and really it was a holding action. […]

[W]e made a lot of progress through the Eighties but then we turned into the Nineties and the internet came along and a new president came along and all of that went away and now we are absolutely awash in evil. And we are right now in the most discouraging period of that long conflict. Humanly speaking, we can say that we have lost all those battles, but God is in control and we are not going to give up now, right?

Right as you can get. Far right.

Jim Bunning Loses to Any Democrat

By GottaLaff

http://buzznewsroom.com/wp-content/uploads/bunning.jpg
Jim "Ted Kennedy will be dead by the time health care reform passes", "Judge Ginsburg will be dead in 9 months" Bunning is nearly as big a loser as we thought he was:
Political Wire got an advance look at a new Public Policy Polling survey in Kentucky that shows Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) with a 28% favorable rating as he attempts to run for a third term.

Bunning loses head-to-head match ups with all four Democrats considering a run against him: Kentucky Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo, Attorney General Jack Conway, state Auditor Crit Luallen and Rep. Ben Chandler.

Complete poll results will be released tomorrow.

Norm Coleman faces hot seat even if he wins

By GottaLaff

Toker Norm better take a few more hits, because he's about to take a few more hits:
Even if Norm Coleman pulls off a long-shot legal victory in the extended Minnesota Senate race, Democrats are vowing to make him wish that he hadn’t.

Separate and apart from the ongoing legal dispute over November’s election, the Minnesota Republican faces several unresolved investigations: a reported FBI probe into his dealings with Nasser Kazeminy, a friend and benefactor; a potential Senate Ethics Committee inquiry into his Capitol Hill living arrangements; a federal elections investigation into his use of campaign donations for legal expenses; and a possible state probe into his campaign’s handling of donors’ financial information on its website.
Wowzers, but that's a lot of unresolved investigations. Where does he find the time... and funds?

Of all the issues facing Coleman, none is more potentially explosive than the Kazeminy investigation, and the Senate Ethics Committee also has been requested to look into the matter.

Last fall, a former associate of Kazeminy’s filed a lawsuit accusing him of trying to funnel $75,000 to Coleman’s wife, Laurie, through a Texas oil-rig company.

The FBI is reportedly investigating the claims — and the Alliance for a Better Minnesota, a liberal nonprofit, has filed a federal elections complaint alleging the senator is misusing campaign funds by paying legal fees.

Coleman has dismissed the complaints as “sleaze.”
What a coincidence. We dismiss Coleman as sleaze.
But questions about the matter flared anew when another former company employee reiterated the charges in a civil court deposition made public last month.

In addition, a complaint is pending in the Senate Ethics Committee by the left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington about Coleman’s $600-a-month room in the Capitol Hill apartment of another Minnesota donor and friend, Jeff Larsen.

And officials with the Minnesota Democratic-Farm-Labor Party have filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission alleging Coleman accepted soft-money donations from a group that receives corporate contributions, a potential violation of federal campaign finance law.
Now see, if a Democrat were in as much hot water as Toker Norm, he'd probably be impeached of indicted. Oh. Wait. He was. So what's holding up the works in Minnesota?

GOP, re: Team Palin: "The gang that couldn't shoot straight" Greta Van Susteren is furious

By GottaLaff

http://theinsanityreport.com/images/pot_kettle.jpg
My BuzzFlash guru, Mark Karlin, shared this little gem with me, along with that other Bachmann one down thread. He's got a million of 'em, folks. Get ready. It's time for another episode of "Republicans Eating Their Own":
Interviews with Alaska and Washington-based GOP political professionals who are familiar with the Palin operation describe the governor's team as a gang that couldn't shoot straight, a staff whose failure to execute basic political maneuvers too often entangles the governor in awkward and embarrassing situations that could have easily been avoided.
Fox News host Greta van Susteren and her husband, John Coale, came in for particular scrutiny.
Team Grabby McEarmarks? Awkward and embarrassing? No way! I'm shocked. She always seemed so together, so down-to-earth. So One of Us. What could have possibly gone wrong? Just ask ::drama sting:: Faux News' Greta Van Susteren (that links to the original post)-- "one of Palin's key missteps since the election was 'Taking advice from Greta and her husband.'":

On Sunday, Van Susteren responded on her blog, calling the article false and "silly" and calling out Politico reporter Jonathan Martin: "What is even more bizarre is that it is co-authored by Jonathan Martin who has been ON THE RECORD at 10pm and he never even called me to check one fact with me. Here is a picture of Jonathan Martin in case you have forgotten him from his many appearances on our show. ... Fact checking seems to be a lost art."

Greta denied she has ever offered Palin political advice:

Advice from me? huh? I am flattered someone would think people take advice from me but this is fanciful.
For the rest of Greta's extensive rant, go here. It's delightful in its irony. Imagine: A Faux News personality suddenly concerned about fact checking.
