For those unfamiliar with me from my day job at The Weekly Standard, I'll give you a capsule bio by way of introduction: I have the gift of wisdom. Does that sound arrogant? I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention. I didn't choose wisdom. It chose me. If I had my druthers, I'd have chosen another gift, perhaps the untold riches of Lil' Wayne, whose teeth are made of actual diamonds, or to be the sexiest man alive, like Rachel Maddow. But wisdom is what they gave me, so wisdom is all I have to give back to you.

Tucker "Drudge" Carlson to launch right-leaning HuffPo alternative

The Tee Vee machine is done with him, so he's going for Drudge Lite:

Pundit Tucker Carlson publicly announced Tuesday that a right-leaning news site resembling the Huffington Post he's been planning will go live within weeks.

Carlson will launch TheDailyCaller.com, which he said would focus on reporting on the Obama administration and "adding facts to the conversation."

Facts? So he's planning on a departure from his past punditiocy?

"We are a general-interest newspaper-format style site," Carlson told conservative bloggers at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday. "There just aren't enough people covering this administration and telling the people what's going on."

... because if there's one thing that's been lacking, it's Obama news. Good journalistic eye, Schmucker.

"Tell the truth, and be accurate," Carlson said of the venture's goals. "It's very important to live up to the basic standards of journalism."

What took you so long?

Carlson said that the site's reporters would share in the profits based on how much traffic is drawn in by their work. He said the site would seek to "drive" the news, similar to the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post, the New York Times, and other major news outlets. (The site's motto, Carlson said, is "every seven minutes," and seeks to be "even faster than Drudge.") [...]

"It will not be a forum for discussing the future of the Republican Party," Carlson explained.

That's because there is no future of the Rushpublic Party... which bodes really well for The Daily Caller.

Will the third network be the charm for Tucker?

After appearances on "Red Eye," Tucker Carlson made it official this morning becoming a paid contributor to Fox News Channel. His first appearance, coming on his 40th birthday, was on Fox & Friends just after 7amET.

"Life begins at 40 and your Fox career begins at 40 too," said co-anchor Dave Briggs.

"I've waited a long time to get here and I'm glad to be here," said Carlson. "We're delighted to have you," added Alisyn Camerota.

What Conservatives Do For Fun

Some guy is lugging around a Snuggie™ to conservative get togethers and somehow convincing these dweebs to pose in it. Oh. My. God.

"Never let it be said that conservatives and libertarians have no sense of humor," says Americans for Tax Reform's Derek Hunter, who's been doing his best to photograph fellow conservatives sporting the trend of the moment: the Snuggie.

And it's working: So far he's convinced Joe the Plumber, Tucker Carlson and Andrew Breitbart to adorn the "blanket with sleeves" that has people mocking it while simultaneously wearing it. His boss, ATR President Grover Norquist, was the first "political celebrity" to put it on.

Sense of humor? If I didn't know better I'd think this Hunter guy was one of us just out to mock and humiliate these asses. 'Cause it's working.

This was Tucker's Big Chance for his Big Comeback from his Big 2004 Smackdown by Jon Stewart. Remember that (video here)?

Now it's five years later, and we have him debating the rousing Jim Cramer/Jon Stewart Face-Off with Stephanie Miller (who understated it as "kind of an ass-kicking") and Tee Vee critic David Zurawik. The bulk of the relevant conversation is in Part One:

In these videos, as in most others that feature him, Tucker is so wrong on so many levels about so many things, it's hard to know where to start... but what the heck, I'll be happy to document his inanities:

--"I'm sure [Cramer's] wife was ashamed of his behavior, the butt-sniffing he gave Jon Stewart." So that's why she was ashamed of him? Really? Wrongy McScreamington's 2006 admissions and terrible advice were fine with her?

--"He went after Cramer the moment Cramer criticized Obama's budget. That's what kicked off this entire feud." Wrong. It was Santelli's little tirade (as Stephanie Miller pointed out later at about 4:00 of Part One) and little "bailout" of his own that set him off, plus his revelations about CNBC's overall coverage. Moving on.

--"Jon Stewart is a partisan hack." This was nothing but infantile payback. See approximately 3:50 of the 2004 video.

--"He's speaking on behalf of the Democratic party". If Tucker knew anything about Jon Stewart, he'd know he's an equal opportunity satirist, and a self-proclaimed independent.

--"It's just a matter of time before he becomes unfunny... It will happen. You watch." No, you watch, Tucker. According to you, if a comedian gets serious, they lose their sense of humor and all appeal as a comedian. Someone better tell half of the guests on Real Time with Bill Maher... and Bill Maher... and other comics too numerous to list. That quote is one of the stupidest conclusions I've ever heard. In fact, my feeling is that this episode will not only fuel more razor sharp wit from Stewart, but will also provide fodder for any comedian who thought Bush's exit would leave them with "nothin'".

--Stewart is "posing as if CNBC is single-handedly responsible for this recession, which it is not." Stewart never "posed" any such thing. However, I do recall his having the guts to call CNBC out for horrific reporting and misleading their viewers. All one has to do is review the videos, Tuck.

--"You will never see Jon Stewart criticize the economic policies of this administration." Nobody is spared on The Daily Show, Tuck, nobody. Do your homework. Good lord, but he's pathetic.

--"For him to call me a partisan hack is ludicrous. I'm the least partisan person I know." Jaw-dropping. Either he is a complete and utter amnesiac, or he doesn't know another partisan punditiot in the whole wide world.

Interestingly, Tucker didn't need Jon Stewart to disgrace him on CNN again. No, this time he Tucked himself over with no help at all.

I was glued to the set when this first aired. I'd never seen Jon Stewart like this, and developed a whole new appreciation of him. After his evisceration of Cramer, my appreciation grew (I didn't think that was even possible).

Stewart not just some well-informed, hilarious comic. He's a top notch, independent-minded, tough interviewer.

Sinner! At CPAC, yes, CPAC, Schmucker had the unmitigated gall to say something not-blistering about the N.Y. Times, daring to utter the words, "they care about accuracy".... and of course, he got booed:

Tucker Carlson attempts to convince the audience at CPAC that the New York Times actually cares about the accuracy of its news, but the audience isn't buying it. He also says that the conservative movement needs its own news gathering organizations who will create news that reflects its values and wishes there were twenty-five outlets like the Fox News Channel.

If there were 25 Faux Noises, we might all short out like this :

St. (Ron) Paul, Tucker Carlson, and rat heads in Coke bottles

Odds and ends from St. Paul, emphasis on "odds":

Grover Norquist is talking about decapitated rodents.

"Those Republican elected officials who vote for tax increases are rat heads in a Coke bottle," booms the president of the Americans for Tax Reform, cheered by a crowd of thousands here. "They damage the brand for everyone!"

These people are serious.

Quite a contrast from the gentlemanly tone of Barack Obama and Joe Biden's gang.

At today's Rally for the Republic, a celebration of the candidacy of one-time presidential candidate and grassroots messiah Ron Paul, a slice of newly activated political consciousness is on stunning display.

The project of Paul campaign offshoot Campaign for Liberty, today's rally could top an attendance of 15,000 supporters, organizers say. The cavernous Target Center stadium in Minneapolis, which seats somewhere south of 20,000 at capacity, is already seating several thousand vocal Ron Paul supporters -- hours before the Texas congressman is scheduled to make his keynote remarks.

Oh please siphon many, many votes away from John Sidney McCain, ohpleaseohpleaseohplease.

Among the phrases dropped by lineup of speakers so far: "the war of Northern aggression;" "Barack Hussein Obama," "McBama," "chickenhawks," and "the environmentalists who have made toilets too small to flush completely."

We environmentalists just have trimmer derrieres than the Ron Paulers, I am proud to say. I bet they didn't consider that when they made the tiny toidy remarks, now did they?

Personalities and entities of all political stripes are vigorously booed upon mention. Jeer-ees include Madeleine Albright, Rudy Giuliani, Joe Lieberman, Sean Hannity, Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush, Ben Bernanke, the New York Times, FOX News Channel, the "neoconservative death cult," "the blockheads who rule us," and any mention of the RNC over the river in St. Paul, a.k.a. "that snorefest down the street."

And, of course, the two current presidential candidates – who receive robust raspberries each time their names are uttered.

And who'd the ringmaster? Which dynamic personality is running the show?

MSNBC's own Tucker Carlson is emceeing the rally. Carlson opened the event by lauding Paul as "a sincerely gentle human being" with the generosity and vision to advocate for the legalization of marijuana, despite having never seen the drug in person.

So that's why Tucker loosened up a little and stopped wearing bow ties. Pass the brownies.

Here's a segment from Dan Abrams' show, Verdict. There are a couple of segments to watch for. One is Tucker Carlson saying this, in regard to the McTemper story I posted previously:

"You've got to be kidding!" he laughed. "Knock it off! That's the dumbest thing I've heard in so long! ... I hope he grabbed that Sandinista official by the face and ground it into the desk. They were monsters! ... I think America wants a president with some backbone!"

Nice killer instinct, Tuck. Maybe McTemper should put you on the ticket.

The other features a clip from The Daily Show about the C-Word story that our own Cliff Schecter broke, including a prominent plug for Cliff's book, The Real McCain.

And there's a special bonus about the spending habits of the ultra-extravagant Cindy McMealTicket, the epitome of the word "elitist".

[Huffington Post editor Roy ] Sekoff agreed, saying, "The hypocrisy ... comes when Karl Rove tries to paint Barack Obama as a country club elitist. ... Cindy McCain is the real deal. ... This is not going to go over well with the American people."

So many McTemper stories, so few media outlets.
