McCain camp claims credit over bailout right before it tanks

Oh my. Even Scarborough says this isn't good for McCain.

CHICAGO (AFP) - John McCain's presidential campaign claimed credit as Congress readied Monday to vote on an emergency economic package, but Democrats said the Republican's last-ditch intervention had been no help.

Mitt Romney, McCain's erstwhile rival for the Republican nomination, said the deal on a Wall Street bailout worth up to 700 billion dollars would never have happened without the Arizona senator.

Speaking on NBC television, the former Massachusetts governor said "this bill would not have been agreed to had it not been for John McCain."

He's a maverick. Remind me why this is a good thing: One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.

How does a dissenter help?

Oh yeah. There was McCain talking about how Obama didn't do shit but stay on the sidelines regarding this bill and how he - JSid - did all the work...and MSNBC was showing the tape next to the Dow ticker.
After the failure, McWhatever got on his plane without making a statement. I'm betting he didn't talk to anyone in the press pool while in flight.

I'd be way more willing to rip Mc apart if I wasn't so worried right now.

Did McCain actually go to the Senate floor and vote "YES" for the bailout?

The Senate never got a chance to vote because it never got beyond the House. You know, I'd be amazed at McCain's panicked-level of incompetence, if I wasn't so appalled. It has moved beyond the matter of political differences of opinion -- he appalls me; it appalls me that a man who obviously can't resist a high-risk gamble is running for our presidency -- and has a moderate chance to win.

I wouldn't bet on McShame's chance of winning any more than I'd bet on the Easter Bunny stopping by for drinks. The man who "won" the debate the morning before it even happened ("Hands down!" according to his campaign mgr.) and who claimed his campaign had been suspended, has claimed credit for passage of the bailout that didn't pass. His reality check has bounced for insufficient credibility.
